Posted May 4, 200718 yr I'm sitting here crying. With shock. And joy. :o :o :o :o 47 seats SNP, 46 seats Labour.
May 4, 200718 yr Author Oh and Labour have lost control of my local Council for the first time in 50 years! :o
May 4, 200718 yr Good. I hope they have a referendum for devolution & get it. So us English tax payers don't have to subsidise Scotland by £6.9 billion per year like we do at the moment. Politicians go on about B-liar's legacy as being the War in Iraq. I disagree. His biggest legacy will be setting up Parliaments in Northern Ireland, Scotland & Wales. Yet England does not get one. Whilst the English taxpayers subsidise the rest of the United Kingdom by £12.3 billion per year, so that our Celtic neighbours can have free Prescriptions, Free Milk & even Free University education whilst us English have to pay for ours. Whilst Northern Irish, Welsh & Scottish MP's can vote on English only affairs when we cannot do the reverse. If Gordon Brown thinks I'll vote for him to be Prime Minister after voting for over a decade for a Labour Party run by Tony Bliar then he is going to get a surprise.
May 4, 200718 yr Author Final result table here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/default.stm You need to click on 'Scot' obviously. ;) Edited May 4, 200718 yr by Jupiter9
May 4, 200718 yr So say IF Scotland detatched itself from the United Kingdom would English and Welsh people need a passport to get in there? And would we still be called the United Kingdom?
May 4, 200718 yr Author Well, do you need a passport to visit the Republic of Ireland or any other EU country? The name? United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Hmmmm. Great Britain includes Scotland. So maybe it would need to become 'The United Kingdom of the Bottom Bit of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'. :P There isn't going to be a referendum any time soon. And the SNP ain't necessarily going to be governing remember. The Lib Dems could still decide not to join them in a coalition (which would be required). If the SNP tries to run as a minority govt every thing they put forward will get voted against. The sad thing is that Labour would rather go in a coalition with the Tories than go into one with the SNP. <_<
May 4, 200718 yr Well, do you need a passport to visit the Republic of Ireland or any other EU country? You don't need a passport to go the Republic Of Ireland as I've been many times and have never had one
May 4, 200718 yr You don't need a passport to go the Republic Of Ireland as I've been many times and have never had one  You do if you fly. You need a passport to fly across the country too. :o
May 4, 200718 yr The SNP got the largest share of the popular vote in just about every region in the country and they are the largest party. If the LDs prop up the Labour party, they would be betraying the majority of those who voted in these elections.
May 4, 200718 yr So us English tax payers don't have to subsidise Scotland by £6.9 billion per year like we do at the moment. Well, considering you English nicked all our oil and gave us sweet FA for it except the Poll Tax and American Nukes in the Holy Loch, you damn well owe us...... :P

How is that fair?
May 5, 200718 yr :o :o :o They get FREE uni education... which the english people pay for through tax?? How is that fair? It is fair when you consider us English "nicked" all their oil supplies though. Swings & roundabouts & all that. I'm pleased that Scott (Grimly) noticed that I was playing "Devils Advocate" with my original post in this thread. I have a couple of Scottish friends so we wind each other up on this point.
May 5, 200718 yr suerely you English subjecting us to over 10 years of your dictator comes under your swings and roundabouts theory, too, thisispop. You voted for immoral and indecent - you got it. BUT... so did the poor folk in Wales and Scotland who DIDN'T vote for her and her fascists. As a gay man, and a gay Welsh man.... I'm utterly ashamed at the utterly indecent gay men and Welsh people who vote Tory. And only this week, Tory idiot Gyles Brandreth revealed most of John Major's time was spent trying to uncover if Gordon Brown was gay or not.... so to now try to promote themselves as a party of sexual tolerance is laughable. Gay people voting Tory are simply beneath contempt - gutter trash who deserve nothing but abject misery.

Then put it simply - f*** OFF. I hate the Conservative Party with a passion. Don't even get me started on Margaret Thatcher - the illegal sinking of the General Belgrano during the Falklands War; the vindictive destruction of the blue collar Unions; Clause 28 and their arrogant homophobic attitude; the Poll Tax; the whole sale asset stripping of industries and utilities via privatisation, not forgetting all the corruption & sleaze that went on which makes the current Labour Government look honest by comparison. There is more chance of me buying a My Chemical Romance album than voting for the spawn of Thatcher in Bliar clothing & his 13 Old Etonian cabinet colleagues at the next Election! The day that Margaret Thatcher dies, I will get out my copy of Elvis Costello's Spike album & play Tramp The Dirt Down (a much better & more subtle song than Morrissey's Margaret On the Guillotine) over & over in celebration.

Russ has plumped here for my SOLE reason for voting for Labour since 1997 (and never Tory) as the Tory record for gay rights is abysmal, and imo, immoral. <_> I will NEVER vote Conservative.
