June 12, 200718 yr Author Tesco is reducing the amount of space it allocates to DVDs in response to shifting trends and customer demand, the supermarket giant has confirmed. The reduction in DVD space is being introduced at the same time that the grocery chain is to scrap the CD single, as customers move towards downloads instead. “There’s no point offering CDs and DVDs if we’re not getting the sales and there’s not the demand for it,” the company said. “Tesco is very good at listening to customers and obviously we monitor what they want and what they are buying and tailor what’s on the shelves accordingly. “We’re stopping selling CD singles because there isn’t the demand for them there was a few years ago. Customers are wanting to download more, and that to an extent is the same with DVDs. It’s very much responding to customer needs and changing with the times.” The space gained by the move is likely to be taken by more “modern” offers including the Apple Zone recently trialled at the chain’s Milton Keynes store. “We’ve now got them in several stores and are planning to roll out further,” the company added. “We have a dedicated area to Apple where staff have been trained by Apple to give customers specific and specialist information on those products. “Customers want to talk about various new technological products which five years ago they wouldn’t. It’s very much a case of constantly moving and changing with the times to accommodate what our customers’ shopping list might be.” It was not clear whether the reduction would follow a set format across the business or be considered on an individual store basis. Nonsense. The reason this is out is because it was released before SITWOC's double release and has ready made remixes to stick on as b-sides. The usual re-release post-success cop out. Also since this one doesn't have an E4 trailer to promote it, Top 40 is pretty good going.
