June 12, 200718 yr Heh heh - ever heard of Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty? As for whoever said the White Stripes don't deserve to be number one because they've 'done no promotion' I'd a) beg to differ - they've been on Jools Holland and given away a 7" single with the NME B) like to ask you why massive payola campaigns should result in number one singles? Isn't it nice that a song gets there on merit for a change instead of just being the song most frequently played on daytime radio 1 and MTV? His point was that its all been hype because of who they are, which is entirely true. 'Icky Thump' is nowhere near up to the standards of Doorbell, Seven Nation Army or even The Raconteurs' Steady As She Goes. In short, its cr@p!

Isn't it nice that a song gets there on merit for a change instead of just being the song most frequently played on daytime radio 1 and MTV? i agree with everyone in that post ^_^ Lets face it Rihanna has zilch talent, she can dance and reveals her self a bit thats all. Umbrella is good dont get me wrong, but she didnt have any input into that song! Time for PROPER talent to be Number 1 = The White Stripes :funky:
June 12, 200718 yr Dire number 1s in both charts :puke2: hope Kelly R is top 10 and Rihanna and Enrique take the top 2 in the singles by the end of the week ^_^
June 12, 200718 yr i don't see white stripes at #1 come sunday, i think they have an inital lead thanks to their fanbase buying it in the first 2 days but as the week goes on rihanna should close in and over take. enrique is doing alot of promo here so he could be top3
June 12, 200718 yr White Stripes will 100% not be #1 come Sunday if they have a lead of less than 1,000 over Rihanna.
June 12, 200718 yr On the subject of Rihanna, Rehab has to be a single. Has to. Hot! Yeah, it's amazing. Would make a perfect 4th single imo ^_^ Shut Up And Drive is the 2nd and Don't Stop The Music is the 3rd.
June 12, 200718 yr His point was that its all been hype because of who they are, which is entirely true. 'Icky Thump' is nowhere near up to the standards of Doorbell, Seven Nation Army or even The Raconteurs' Steady As She Goes. In short, its cr@p! It's better than My Doorbell. I'm not a particularly big fan of it and prefer Umbrella but it'd make such a refreshing change to actually have a decent and talented indie/rock act at the top rather than generic $h!t. So many bands take the safe option with comeback, lead singles (Maroon 5, Snow Patrol, Kaiser Chiefs). As apposed to Icky Thump which is the least commercial, most un-radio friendly song they've released in a long time. It'd be an extremely refreshing number one!
June 12, 200718 yr I suppose it is nice than such a song thats less commercial can go to the top, or near the top, but i think it's not worthy of it, and that theres a reason Umbrella is still so popular. Just my opinion though! I actually like Maroon 5's comeback too, its very catchy and i was never a fan of their earlier (cringeworthy) stuff like She Will Be Loved...
June 12, 200718 yr tbh as much as i hate white stripes, id love an indie #1 but it wont stay there, saturday will be a big day so enrique will also benefit from the 'kiddies' day out (sorry, that sounds really stereotypical, lol) so WS will fall to 3, EI at 2 and R/JZ at 1...so Marillion will drop big too as well, possibly low top 20!!!!

I'm not a big fan of The White Stripes, but I like some of their music. Whatever happens if it stays at #1, its only going to be there for a week, Lee Mead will certainly be #1 next week whatever happens between Rihanna & The White Stripes. But after 4 weeks at #1 for Rihanna, I rather agree with you, to have a fresh #1 Also its nearly 6 months and only 9 #1s this year compared to this time 2 years ago
June 12, 200718 yr Author is jason donovans single out on download this week??? It should be according to the excellent release schedule compiled by ManicKangaroo
June 12, 200718 yr Author Does anyone know how close the top 3 singles are? *prays for Enrique* No figures yet Jason, only what's posted, will post later if or when I receive further chart info
June 12, 200718 yr HA. Shame for Kelly Clarkson. I adore her, but 'Never Again' is FOUL. I really don't know who'll be #1 come Sunday. If 'Icky Thump' is only 1k ahead of 'Umbrella', then I can see Rihanna staying at the top for a 5th week. I dunno, it could really go either way.. Is Kate Nash anywhere on downloads?!
June 12, 200718 yr No figures yet Jason, only what's posted, will post later if or when I receive further chart info Thanks Mikey In my opinion the top 3 on sunday will be: 1 - Rihanna 2 - Enrique 3 - White Stripes
