White Stripes head for top?

12 June 2007 - 10:34:59

Source: Music Week

Detroit’s The White Stripes are currently atop the singles chart with Icky Thump (XL), according to early sales reports, but they face strong competition to maintain pole position on Sunday from Rihanna.

The Rihanna featuring Jay-Z single Umbrella (Def Jam) has shifted only a thousand less units than The White Stripes, and has been at number one since its entry into the charts four weeks ago.

Marillion’s Thankyou Whoever You Are (Intact) looks set to become the week’s highest new entry, with Koopa (Juxtaposition), Erasure (Mute) and Kelly Clarkson (RCA) all likely to hit the Top 20.

So far the highest climber looks likely to be Maximo Park’s Books From Boxes (Warp), climbing from 116 to number eight.

There’s more movement on the album charts again this week. Four new entries are set for the Top Five, which, come Sunday, is likely to be populated by an army of ageing rockers.

The Travelling Wilburys Collection (Rhino) is sitting on number one, closely followed by Bon Jovi’s Lost Highway (Mercury).

Both releases have sold 10,000-plus more copies than third place Queens Of The Stone Age’s Era Vulgaris (Interscope).

Biffy Clyro’s Puzzle (14th Floor) could slip out of the Top 10 this week from its number two position.

If so, that'll be number one.

It's available to download from today, its physically released next Monday, so he has no chance really.

I dunno, Rihanna's been around for ages now and the power of Saturday night audiences / charity is immense. If one of the tabloids starts a 'campaign' then he could sell enough in one day to hit the top spot.

Not that I want him to you understand!

My predictions for the singles:

1. Rihanna

2. Enrique

3. Kelly Clarkson (by the end of the week, maybe today not yet)

4. Mutya

5. Calvin

To be honest I prefer Rihanna at #1 than Lee, but at a push he might have to settle for Top 5, unless Rihanna's sales dip dramatically this week.

I reckon :

1 (1) Rhianna

2 (9) Enrique

3 (13) White Stripes

4 (2) Mutya

5 (18) Kelly Rowland

Kelly C will be around #7 i reckon with the Joseph song around #16.

i think top 5 will go like this, by sunday:

5 - White Stripes

4 - Mutya Buena

3 - Kelly Rowland

2 - Enrique Iglesias

1 - Rihanna

think kelly clarkson will climb next week, probs between 10 and 7 this week!!!! And id love richard grey to get top 40 but with no promo/airplay, i can only see top 60 at best <_< albums will be boring, so rihanna for week 2 <_< <_< <_< <_<

Early prediction -

1 - Rihanna

2 - Enrique

3 - Kelly R

4 - Mutya

5 - White Stripes

6 - Calvin

7 - Kelly C

Thats wishful thinking by someone, those mids cant be true. White Stripes are only 4 on itunes and half as popular as Rihanna so they would have to be literally outselling her 2:1 on physicals!

They're an indie/rock band. And like all other indie/rock bands that haven't sold themselves to mainstream radio they sell MUCH better on physicals. I think they are quite believable!
