I don’t think they’d feel that bad? At the time, it was the end. They also seemed to enjoy it, were paid to do it and didn’t have to do that much. It’s not about them, surely the response should be happiness for whichever members of the cast and crew get their jobs back.

Anyway, this is amazing news if only for the archive of episodes on their way. I have missed Neighbours and it always felt so unfair that the show had to end when it was in a good place.

We know the big four will be back and I imagine they’ll get Terese and Mel back too. Possibly the Rodwell’s will get a reprieve as they were shafted with the cancellation. Jane is an unknown-surely Annie Jones would want to return and you’d never usually refuse the chance to have a character like Jane-but what to do about Mike? I think its workable, I’d either have him teaching abroad and Sam staying with Jane, kill him off (not preferred) and have ghost Mike speak to Jane in the opening episode after his funera (I’m sure Guy would do that much) or, my personal favourite, have a call back to Jane’s grandad Len Mangel who was never seen on screen when Mrs Mangel was there but was frequently mentioned. The worst they could do is have Jane have another happy ending fake out like her wedding with Des.

I’m kind of mixed about this. On one hand I’m happy for the actors and the die hard fans but on the other it ended so perfectly. Saying that I’ll give it a go.
I’m also interested to see how it returns in terms of will it be 5x 30mins episodes a week or will we get 1x 10 or 20 one hour episodes so a season.

Well that's a turn up for the books. Only three and a half months after the supposedly final episode!

Takaya Honda (who plays David Tanaka) wrote this on Instagram: "Apart from these three (Ryan Moloney, Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne) and Stefan the rest of the cast are finding out with you. Please give us time to process, we don't know anything more."

^ Although I don't think it was intended to come across negatively, just that he felt surprised. It'll be interesting to see who comes back for the revival. With a few months having passed, surely quite a lot of the cast will have moved on to different jobs and have contracts.

The deal including the ability to stream thousands of episodes - wow! I wonder if anyone will embark on trying to watch them all? Or maybe people will just dip into watching particular classic episodes at random.

I cant see Takaya Honda returning and if he does it will be for a short stint as he had previously said he had planned on leaving before the axe was announced.

Yeah I remember reading that, and so was Georgie Stone (Mackenzie). So I wouldn’t expect her back either.

That's great that they picked it up again. I probably won't watch it as it's been YEARS since I had but I'm happy for the fans of the soap that it's back already! It does make the last episode feel a bit mute now mind but back then they were under the impression it was ending for good with no sign of starting up again.
From what im reading RTE here in Ireland will be showing it in the same way it used to before it was dropped which im really happy about it, im hoping RTE give it the same time slots again.

It is a huge surprise that it coming back so quickly.

It would have been nice if Amazon stepped in sooner although had they done that we would have missed out on the final episodes we got.

What year/ whereabours was the storyline of the meathead hooked on roids or some shit? I need to find that for one episode, where they have a school debate, as doe some reason he is in high schiol at age 25, and he says some absolute SHITE in a debate about money, and wins because the writers say so
What on Earth are you talking about and what point are you trying to make?

Posted in the Celebrity R.I.P thread in The Lounge but thought it should go here too.

Joan Sydney the actress who played Valda Sheergold passed away on December 28. Always loved her character.

R.I.P

Really sad, I loved Valda too. I always found her accent curious, it sounded Scouse (sometimes) but I'm sure the actress wasn't from Liverpool so it must have been put on!

Valda was an amazing character, she could pull off comedy and the heavy emotional stuff. RIP Joan, you will be greatly missed.

My fave Valda scene (though there aren’t enough of them on YouTube):

I thought she was born in London, or at least England. But perhaps the Scouse accent was put on a bit.

Valda & Lou scenes remain sone of my favourite. Such a great pairing.

I had pretty much stopped watching the show at this time so only have vague memories of her time on the show but RIP Joan Sydney.
