Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars has now claimed its 52nd week on the chart. It was removed from the chart in October 2006 after being on the official chart since 24 July 2006, entering the chart at number 25 on downloads alone while peaking at 6 seven weeks later. After an eight week absence, it re-entered the chart in January 2007 when the new chart rules came into effect and has remained in the chart since, finally clocking up its 52nd week in the chart this week.

The full chart run (thanks, polyhex):

25-15-13-10-12-7-7-{6}-8-8-17-16-14-20-23-27-26-9R(8)-21-28-32-24-23-12-21-27-31-29-28-35-47-48-48-47-45-51-48-51-54-54-51-59-65-60-44-54-56-56-54-56-52-61

US version:

Lyrics:

We'll do it all

Everything

On our own

We don't need

Anything

Or anyone

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know

How to say

How I feel

Those three words

Are said too much

They're not enough

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told

Before we get too old

Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time

Chasing cars

Around our heads

I need your grace

To remind me

To find my own

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told

Before we get too old

Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am

All that I ever was

Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where

Confused about how as well

Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here

If I just lay here

Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

The track was taken from the multi platinum (and 2006's biggest seller) album Eyes Open, and reached number 5 in the Billboard Hot 100. It was also a hit in Australia (1), Austria (2), Belgium (3), Canada (2), Czech Republic (3), Holland (8), Germany (8), Ireland (1), New Zealand (4) and Spain (5). It was featured in the US hit show Grays Anatomy in May 2006 which considerably upped its exposure and profile in the US.

Has anybody got a list of all the singles to have spent a year or more on the chart? Be interesting to see where it ranks...

I know it sold about 250,000 last year, and I would guess about 50,000 tops this year.

Yea, I still like this. I know it's normal to bash it, but it's a classic tune that will still be played in ten years time.

Congrats to Snow Patrol.

I love this song still, it's not as powerful as it once was but I'm sure after a while I'll listen to it again and fall back in love with it. I liked it before it became a hit, which is strange for me because I didn't even like Snow Patrol

Frank Sinatra - My Way (124 weeks - several chart runs)

Engelbert Humerdinck - Release Me (56 weeks)

Oasis - Whatever (55 weeks - several chart runs)

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax (52 weeks)

^^ These are off the top of my head

Always loved this song  just has something about it.

"Rehab" is heading for a year soon too! :w00t:

Still love it. And I think it's a mark of a true classic that it could stay on the chart for so long without fading away or having a huge backlash. This is one of the few songs released this decade that I'm sure will be remembered and played in 20 years time.

Thanks Mikey  So that means its joint 5th with FGTH relax wow! Didnt think itd be that high! :o
i think everyone needs to call the radio and ask them to ban this song from being played. Just like they done to James Blunt :kink:
I'm still hoping they'll make the CD/7" available again as I'm still hoping to get a copy, cos I was slow on the uptake and didn't work what the song I liked was called until it was already withdrawn.
