i think 'girl overboard' was certainly rumoured to be a single but it was decided it would be more profitable to do a new album, especially since Cheryl was so prominant in the public eye at the time.

'Crocodile Tears' is one of their most underrated songs.

From Girls Aloud studio albums Tangled Up is the album I return to most.

It’s been 14 years since Tangled Up charted at #4 in the UK! The album went on to sell over 500,000 copies.

Call the Shots was released physically 14 years ago today

Just listened to this for the first time as my of my 'First Play' of all Girls Aloud albums. It was really good, a close second behind Out Of Control if I was to rank them, though I can definitely see it moving to top spot on repeated listens.

Call The Shots, Girl Overboard, Can't Speak French, Black Hacks, Control The Knife & Crocodile Tears the standout tracks for me.

Excellent rate scores

Tangled Up was released in the UK 15 years ago today! It peaked at #4 and sold over 500,000 copies. Many fans regard it as being the group’s masterpiece album!

Happy 15th anniversary to this incredible pop album *.*

ive always found the fans love for this album interesting... there's some really great tracks here ofc... Control of the Knife being a highlight, Girls Overboard, Crocodile Tears but aside from the singles and those 3 I find the rest of the album quite filler.

I will astonishingly agree with dannjohn for once. Although it contains some of their absolute best work, there is some serious filler on here which really bogs this album down (particularly towards the end). 'Crocodile Tears' is just awful however, I could never withstand that one.

Control of the Knife, Girl Overboard and Close to Love though  all deserved to be singles.

It's an incredible album for me and my favourite girl group album. I don't agree with the filler comment at all! I'm Falling is my least favourite but it's still a solid track, and comfortably better than the weakest song on any of their other albums.

Tangled Up is definitely "all killer, no filler" for me!

The first 8 tracks = an incredible run of songs. I'd say that it's the most consistent run of tracks across all of their albums!

While the pace and mood of the album most definitely changes for the final 4 songs, I wouldn't consider them to be average or disposable. They have their part to play in making Tangled Up such a great album as a whole.

What You Crying For and I'm Falling are not single worthy choices by any means, but I appreciate them for being incredibly quirky and that they have a darker/punky edge to them. If not to everyone's tastes, they at least represent how adventurous and unpredictable they often were. Girls Aloud on a drum and bass song!

Damn has often been maligned as the album's weakest song. I think it's a lot of fun and it puts me in mind of some of the Chemistry era songs.

Crocodile Tears is like a cool down after being on such an exhilarating journey. It has a moody/mysterious vibe to it. I particularly love Sarah's energy in her section of the song!

In general the track listing was pretty strong across the album as many have mentioned but one big negative for me was the album cover itself, it was just boring.

Not this 'I'm Falling' shade!

'I'm Falling' >>>>>> 'Can't Speak Basic'!!!!!

I actually think it woulda worked fairly well as a single *eyes* it feels like the crazier sister to 'Long Hot Summer' and I think it represents the sound they were trying for on 'Out Of Control' better than a few of those singles!

AHEAD OF IT'S TIME I TELL YA! AHEAD OF IT'S TIME!!!! :arrr:

I'll always find it strange that the main album cover ended up being what it is because of Polydor's market research. They determined that the album was more likely to sell better across many demographics if the girls weren't on the cover. I feel like if anybody back then had a desire to buy a Girls Aloud album but felt too embarrassed to hand it over in HMV etc... was a cover with GIRLS ALOUD in massive letters likely to make it any better?

I remember looking at the album in HMV and felt that the album didn't stand out very well on the shelves. Thank God for the Fan Edition! Probably my favourite album artwork they ever did. If we ever get a vinyl I truly hope they use that artwork rather than the text only cover.

Out of Control ended up being their best selling studio album just a year later, and that of course features artwork with the girls on it, and looks colourful thanks to their outfits (along with some terrible graphic design *_* ) so this seemed to prove the market research wrong?

I'm awaiting the moment you finally surrender to Can't Speak French's powers :cheeseblock: I believe it will happen one of these days, I shall be patient :teresa:

It was a stupid reason behind the choice of album cover and as you said if someone was embarrassed buying a Girls Aloud album this still wouldn't have helped the cause. It really was a bizzare decision especially when they went the totally opposite on Out of Control.
thats such a 2000s label theory... what i don't get is why they didn't just do lots of covers (maybe cost). A lot of people would have bought Cheryl only versions
