Indeed. They really had no idea, although they did quite well with N-Dubz, getting them two platinum albums, but completely failed with every other pop act. I still don't understand why Dannii signed with them after Neon Nights which did so well for her.

Universal took over for the marketing of the N-Dubz albums as they obviously had little faith in AATW

I think it was pure luck on AATW part that they signed her as they originally approached her to write the lyrics to YWFAM and I guess when that became a Top 10 hit she already had ties with the team and thought it would be a good idea :drama:

I think it's worth remembering while Neon Nights did well for Dannii's standards, I believe they probably had higher expectations for an album that managed to score four top ten singles (three in the top five) than "only" selling a bit over 100k. When London Records went bust they probably could've transferred her to another sub-label, but they didn't. I don't think Dannii had a huge pool of labels coming after her and at the time - with the success of Who Do You Love Now?, I Begin To Wonder and the Don't Wanna Loose This Groove remix in the clubs, signing to the biggest independent dance label in the UK probably did seem like a good choice.

I wonder if You Won't Forget About Me actually going into the top three would've changed anything. With N-Dubz it seemed like AATW had outside help with handling their releases, maybe another label would've come in and helped with Dannii's releases if that had happened.

There really was no need for the hits and beyond !! This killed the momentum.

Imagine an album with the nest tracks from unleashed and the best songs from club disco!!

That would be a corker of an album!!

To be fair, what would a full Dannii album have sold after a #20 charting single? Let's be real here - Hits and Beyond probably got to #17 due to the "hits" on the album and not the "beyond" part. The peak for a full album at that point might've put Girl in a better light. Maybe if she had something ready to follow You Won't Forget About Me it might've yielded a better result, but on the other hand it's clear in hindsight that she did not get to leave London with her recordings despite it being claimed at the time.

As much as I would've preferred a full album, it probably was the right choice. It ended up selling around 45k when all was said and done and the total sales isn't a disaster for a Dannii album. I do wish they kept Hits & Beyond in print during the X-Factor years, but I understand that there were logistics around licensing that kept that from happening.

With that said, a mix of the best tracks from the London sessions and the AATW sessions would make a strong album.

Hmm, yes true. You have a good point there. In my memory Neon Nights performed a lot better than it actually had. I always thought it was close to platinum, but it didn't come anywhere near there. So even though the singles performed well, especially for her standards, it is likely that not a lot of labels wanted to sign her at this point in her career.

You think so? I honestly don't think a studio album would have done much better, likely way worse. Perfection already underperformed and So Under Pressure bombed. The Hiys & Beyond still didn't do well (which surprised me, given all the promo she did including the G-A-Y gig, which got a lot of media coverage for being the first time Kylie was back on stage), but I think it was definitely helped by the hits, like Tommie said, as a lot of the promo was focused on that as well.

It's just a shame Dannii has always had such a hard time on the charts, it just seems the general public isn't interested in her. In an ideal world, So Under Pressure would have SMASHED.

She had recorded so much stronger material than perfection , so under pressure and touch me like that!

I'm not a big fan of Perfection, but I definitely think So Under Pressure was one of her best singles. I was absolutely obsessed with it when it was released back in '06.

Love Fight and I Can't Sleep At Night were MUCH better than Perfection and Touch Me Like That.

Most of the London acts got dumped though after the label went bust (Including The Sugababes who had also had a gold album - a decision I’m sure Warner went on to regret!).

If AATW had a follow up ready for YWFAM they could have attempted to build the basis for an album but waiting 11 (:drama:) months to follow up a Top 10 hit killed any momentum - not sure why they thought that was a good idea. I can’t believe the biggest dance label at the time could not have rustled up a follow up quicker than a year later.

I love the fact we got a proper Dannii GH but it also pains me that the material from Unleashed and Club Disco could have made a great album but under AATW what would a Dannii studio album have done at the time with no huge lead single? Top 75 at the very best.

Just realised that basically half of ‘Unleashed’ is greyed out on Spotify so guessing there is licensing issues with some of the songs?!

My point is if they released the better songs they may of been hits !

I’m Sorry

Love Fight

Blame It On The Music

Spend Your Love On Me

Do You Believe Me Now ?

All much better songs than what was actually released as singles

I'm the same, perfection doesn't do much for me at all, I like the chorus of so under pressure, and yes love fight and I cant sleep at night are far far better.

I'm not really sure there's much you can do once radio decides to pass on your singles to be fair. Even You Won't Forget About Me didn't get very high up on Radio One's playlist (I think it might've only been c-listed?). Perfection and So Under Pressure were snubbed, so with that in mind neither actually did perform that horribly with that in mind.
Ya when radio give up on you its a very hard battle, its a shame they didnt stay with dannii for just a little bit longer.

At the time I bought the CD1 + CD2 of 'Perfection' mainly just to support her. I have a bigger appreciation for it now than I did, but it is quite clearly a cut and shut pasted on vocal over an existing instrumental dance track. And the video that looks like it was filmed on a camcorder.

I did think by the time 'Perfection' came around and it was clear R1 were no longer supporting her that she was on to a total no-hoper. :(

'Club Disco', Dannii's final studio album (or was it a compilation?!), recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. I'm still yet to hear the album in full, but 'You Won't Forget About Me' is one of my favourite Dannii singles and I'm a fan of 'Perfection' and 'Touch Me Like That' too. Always interesting to hear people's thoughts on this album and all what went on behind the scenes. I think it rivals Kylie's 'X' for fan posts about their dream tracking list!

^^

It was officially an album but in reality it’s a mish mash compilation of Dannii’s time at AATW - I actually really like it but it just reminds me of the mess in the way that AATW managed her releases, Club Disco was no exception - it was released digitally in the UK and 6 months later released physically in Australia.

So many stand out tracks that if they had been released in sync and with any care and attention could have easily been decent sized hits.
