November 18, 20222 yr Listened to the album a couple of times now, don't think there's any bad songs here at all but I can't shake the feeling of it being a collection of songs over the years rather than a cohesive album. 'Love Fight', 'I'm Sorry' and 'Xanadu' were highlights - was not expecting the latter to sound like that at all! I thought it would be an even camper rendition of the original. 'You Won't Forget About Me' (Afterlife Lounge Mix) sounds really good too.

It's because it was exactly what it was. It's clear that Dannii didn't have a direction for what she was recording; even just listening to the tracks that made Hits & Beyond it's obvious there's no red thread. Compare it to Neon Nights, that's still quite diverse, but clearly it sounds like a complete album. I think that's ultimately an issue with how a label like AATW functions though - they mostly leave their artists alone except for coming with them with the odd instrumental. Even the left-over Warner era tracks on Unleashed sounded more cohesive.

I think maybe it could have been an improvement to leave the Hits and Beyond tracks off the album in terms of album cohesion, even though it would leave the hits (and most of the good songs) off the album. Overall it’s just a shame what happened after the relative success of Neon Nights, but all out of Danni’s control really.

November 6, 20231 yr ^^ She mentioned at the London signing that’s the next one she wanted to work on for a vinyl release, let’s hope it happens - would work as a RSD release.

November 7, 20231 yr I though the hits and beyond might get the vinyl re release treatment before clun disco I’m guessing it’s a licensing nightmare - multiple labels own Dannii’s back catalogue (MCA, Mushroom, AATW, London, AVEX, Warner) hence why it went out of print quite quickly originally.
