The only 'meh' track for me is Some People which is a bit flimsy - yet this is the song they do as a final encore on the new tour...

The rest of the album - the production is incredible - and the more you listen to it, the more fabulous instrumentation you uncover - the flutes on Happiness, especially...and the multi-layered sound - you'd be hard-pushed to find a better sounding album this year, I think.

Alison Goldfrapp is a huge fan of Kate Bush - and it shows on Seventh Tree - you can see the influence throughout - for anyone who loves this album, you really should check out Kate Bush's 'Hounds of Love' (the 'suite' 'The Ninth Wave' in particular), her comeback album 'Aerial' (the birdsong and pastoral feel seems to have influenced Seventh Tree) and the dark, creepy 'The Dreaming'. 'Little Bird' is very reminiscent of Cocteau Twins...especially the soaring, awesome last minute... and, a small snippet of useless info - it's little wonder Little Bird sounds like Cocteau Twins..... the track features, on percussion, Damon Reece, who's Cocteau Twin (and Massive Attck) vocalist Elizabeth Fraser's long-term partner and who was a member of Spiritualized. He's appeared on albums by Massive Attack and Alison Moyet as well as quite a few other Goldfrapp productions.

There's a superb French fansite for Goldfrapp with a gorgeous gallery and some great downloads that's well worth a look.

Check Goldfrapp's take on Grace's 'It's Not Over Yet' from Dermot O'Leary's radio show here: http://goldfrapp.free.fr/php/home.php?type=MP3

It's pretty stunning....

I absolutely love this album, it's full of melancholy and yet also full of drama. I have to say I really like "Some People" but I am a sucker for anything with a piano lol.

Indeed!

Listen to "Fotzepolitic" from "Heaven or Las Vegas" album by Cocteau Twins and then to "Little Bird" by Goldfrapp...

The same "frenzy" at the end

Coctea Twins' 'Heaven Or Las Vegas' is one of the best albums ever made, I reckon - every home should have one

^

Heaven or Las Vegas it's quite short (under 40 minutes) but very concentrated

Also every track is a standout (no filler!)

A real dream

well actually have to say that this above is probs more helpfull as a review than saying "new electro-pop album" - which seems to be the journo's 80s obsessed cliche of the day

The limited Goldfrapp boxset CD/DVD is well worth getting, too - the packaging and content is worth the extra few quid - beautiful.

I thought they were recorders not flutes, and i'm still undecided

yeah i got that - because i had a money of voucher to spend - but the dvd is only like 15 - 20 mins isnt it (not gonna find it at this mo) - so people might be better off with the original version - tho wait a few month and it will be a £5 in fopp

The video for happiness better debut pretty quick, with it being C-listed already and released 14th April it all seems a bit rushed.

yeah now i've listened to it - anyone who has mentioned that this is an electropop album is misguide - dont think how this has anyrelation to Depeche Mode than being on Mute - yeah file it next to Nick Drake, Sandy Denny, Pentangle and some Lindisfarne (not fog on the tyne with gazza i guess  )

btw Scarlett Johansson is supposed to sound like Liz Fraser on her new album - now thats one thing i gotta listen to - maybe after Tom Waits - an album of Cocteau Twins (and maybe McAlmont/Thieves too) tunes??

I know this is a long dead thread but I have just listened to Seventh Tree again and although it's taken me over three years to realise it, this is an absolute gem of an album.

A gorgeous listen from start to finish (although Caravan Girl doesn't really fit with the rest of the album)

A&E remains my favourite Goldfrapp track, it's just beautiful. Felt Mountain is my favourite album of theirs by some margin but I agree that Seventh Tree has got better with age while the albums in-between have dated quite badly.

Dandy* speaks TRUTH.

This was my album of 2008, one of the first I bought. It's so different from most of my music collection. Not a single naff song and lovely vocals and production. None of their other albums come close for me though, which is a shame. I thought "Head First" was nice but I got tired of it quickly.
I love this album, especially A&E which is utterly undeniably gloriously gorgeous and is by MILES their best track. I really should look into them further, I've only checked out Seventh Tree and Head First (loved the former, liked the latter) and their singles.

Go for Felt Mountain next, it's lovely!

Lovely Head was used on an advert at some point (I forget which). Pilots and Utopia are just  The other albums are all okayish but aren't anywhere near as complete a listen.

I've heard Lovely Head and Utopia, which are both lovely - I may well give the album a go on Spotify tomorrow! Thanks Grebo for bumping this and reminding me how wonderful Goldfrapp are!
I haven't listened to the album, but I LOVED 'A&E', simple yet stunning.
