Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars re-enters the top75 making it joint second longest chart runner in singles history.

It is joint with Judy Collins - Amazing Grace from 1971/2 both with 67 weeks.

The main difference was that in 1971/2 the complete singles chart was only Top 50 instead of Top 100 as it is today. It only increased in 1978.

For anyone who doesn't yet know was Frank Sinatra - My Way which spent 124 weeks in the Top 50 over 10 chart runs 122 weeks of those were between 1969 and 1972 plus another 2 weeks in 1994.

I think Chasing Cars is the first single to appear in two consecutive year end top 40's since Angels by Robbie Williams in 1997/98.
So Leona gets longest run at number 1 albums for any UK female act ever. :)

UK female artist not act - the Spice Girls had 8 consecutive weeks at number 1 with Spice in 1996/97. Leona beats Dido's record of 6 consecutive weeks with No Angel in 2001.

She now holds the following chart records:

UK Chart Records Update

Fastest selling single by a female artist: Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This, 571,253 in its first week

Fastest selling debut album in UK Chart history: Leona Lewis - Spirit, 375,872 in its first week

Quickest million selling album by a solo artist: Leona Lewis - Spirit, 29 days

Most consecutive weeks at number 1 by a single from a UK female artist: Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love, 7 weeks

Most consecutive weeks at number 1 by an album from a UK female artist: Leona Lewis - Spirit, 7 weeks

Most cumulative weeks at number 1 in the history of the singles chart by a UK female artist: Leona Lewis - 11 weeks

Some sales from BBC website

Amy Winehouse Back to black 1.85 million in 2007 (incl 265k of delux edition)

Leona Lewis Spirit 1.59 million

Leona Bleeding love 788,000

Leon When You Believe 395,669 (119,927 last week) [from this is northscotland co.uk)

Edited by fiesta

Those figures have Leona as selling over a 160k but Digital spy have different sales figures .

Seventh week at top of album chart for Leona

Sunday, December 30 2007, 19:00 GMT

By Neil Wilkes, Editor

Leona Lewis has topped the albums chart for the seventh consecutive week with her debut disc Spirit.

With sales of over 116,000 in Christmas week, Leona is comfortably ahead of Syco label-mates Westlife, who stay put at two with over 72,000 sales.

Take That climb back up the chart, rising from eight to three with Beautiful World, while dance act Cascada hit a new chart high of ten with Perfect Day, on sales of 44,000.

The top ten UK albums in full:

1. (1) Leona Lewis: Spirit

2. (2) Westlife: Back Home

3. (8) Take That: Beautiful World

4. (3) Michael Bublé: Call Me Irresponsible - Special Edition

5. (10) Amy Winehouse: Back To Black

6. (6) Andrea Bocelli: Vivere: The Best Of

7. (7) Shayne Ward: Breathless

8. (6) Led Zeppelin: Mothership

9. (13) Mika: Life In Cartoon Motion

10. (12) Cascada: Perfect Day

So Leona gets longest run at number 1 albums for any UK female act ever. :)

Typical <_<

The main difference was that in 1971/2 the complete singles chart was only Top 50 instead of Top 100 as it is today. It only increased in 1978.

Yeah the chart gets published up to 100 on the OCC website but everywhere else its still considered as a top 75. Then that means Chasing Cars WAS still in the chart for the last 2 weeks.

On longlevity note i saw Wham- Last Christmas with 40 weeks. If thats in the chart for a month over christmas then by 2010 it would have had a year.

Also Rehab gets its 52nd week.

On the wino note surely 26 weeks for Back To Black must have made it one of the longest running songs that didn't get top 20.

That last record its quite incredible: 11 weeks at no.1 for a female artist and thats a record in just over a year!
