I find this a quite incredulous statement TIP. I agree that FITS is not the most commercial single, but I think that BIT is a strong follow-up to BL. It has after all currently hit radio in a big way - its #4 on radio following a 186-27-19-7-4 climb and I believe it will chart in the top 3 this week.

Furthermore, if you have heard the rest of her album I would be astonished if you didn't regard Take A Bow as a follow-up single that has potential world-wide smash written across it in the same vein that Bleeding Love does. Other than this, Leona's album is full of a number of good singles, however, more importantly, I think having 2 world-wide smash singles in an album really stands out and is consistent (if not better) than the best in today's marketplace.

I agree that she displaced Will Young as the best talent the UK has discovered from a talent show, by some margin (and I do think Will Young had a substantial talent).

Leona may not have shown the artistic development that you may have expected following the X Factor, but this has probably, as you say, been compromised by her management influence. To say that this is due to Simon Cowell is perhaps a slight exaggeration, I believe Cowell has had an influence but I believe said influence has been diminished due to the signing of the U.S. deal.

I don't know which aspects of Whitney's and Mariah's debut albums you consider are far far better than Leona's album - I would consider them on a par. What needs to be borne in mind is that Leona is a developing artist - she may not have had a substantial amount of input into her debut album, but I don't think this should be frowned upon. What she needed to do with her first album is attempt to cement a world-wide chart position and this is paramount. What will develop from this is Leona having more artistic creation over what her music becomes and sounds in album #2.

Yeah! I think people just need her to get used to all this first! Then i think she will start inputting her own lyrics and styles into songs for her next few albums!
I do hope your optimism is well-founded - for her sake:

Davis advises singers not to write songs

Saturday, March 8 2008, 11:21 GMT

By Daniel Kilkelly, Entertainment Reporter

BMG chief Clive Davis has hit out at singers who insist on writing their own songs.

The legendary music mogul claimed that artists who demand greater control over their material are almost always doomed to failure.

"The odds are always against you. You have got to go over the best material, and that should win out, not withstanding any track record," Davis, 75, explained. "I don't care how many number ones you have written in the past, have you written a new number one?"

Davis was involved in a high-profile dispute with Kelly Clarkson last year, when she decided to write all of the songs on her third album, My December.

Remaining defiant over the row, he insisted: "She was not signed as a singer/songwriter".

Next week will be really interesting, I still thing Girls Aloud could get the number one, I did actually prefer their song over Sugababes' Denial, but that's really grown on me a lot more now, I'm so fickle.

Their downloads are far too low (even if great) to secure a #1 charting. CTS was #1 on Itunes for over 2 weeks but peaked at #3, so with CTS at #11 on Itunes, a top5 would already be amazing for them.

i love girls aloud and sugababes new tracks plus i hope james blunt can at least crack the top 100

Yes, I'm hoping for a 99 as well.

I'm glad he's flopping massively.

The song is quite good, but at least it balances the OVERRATED succes of his first album.

In addition to this, do you think Leon Jackson will have a big comeback in the autumn, like Leona did.

My answer to this will be a fat NO

And the winner of the next X Factor will be LEO

Leona, Leon, Leo -_- get the picture ;)

Nope, I think Leon is complete and utter garbage and the sooner he disappears from the music industry the better.

At best, he'll probably manage a top 5 single and album for one week and then plummet.
