A member on Popjustice spoke to songwriter Hannah Robinson:

It was rumoured that ‘Some Girls’ was possibly going to Geri Halliwell or at least she wanted to record the track and then a whole locking herself in a car scenario (ha) – is that true? And did you and Richard X write the Annie track Me Plus One about that incident – or is that complete fan-fiction?

Ok, so there are elements of truth here. When Geri arrived at a session we had with Ian Masterson she said she wanted to record Some Girls that day and had an idea for a different middle 8. This threw me off because the song was already being cut by Rachel. I explained the situation and understandably she was disappointed. I did receive a call from her then manager saying “I’d never work in this town again”. Lol.

The car story, is a separate situation altogether. Ian and I went to work with Geri in LA. We had a great time and Geri really looked after us. I do remember vomiting out of her 4x4 window on the way to the studio. She was on a call at the time, so she patiently waited for me to finish before setting off again. Seriously, what a surreal moment. And I still to this day don’t know why I had this random sick.

Anyway, back to the point, During one of our studio days Geri came in a little later, Ian and I had work to do anyway and when she arrived, she was either tired or having a bad day. She said she was popping out for little while and we saw her leave through the back door to her car. On the cctv in the studio we saw that she’d got into her, but the car never left. After maybe 6 hours, she returned having slept. This had absolutely nothing to do with Some Girls.

She didn’t answer the question about the song written about her did she, just completely avoided answering that bit. 🤣 It very clearly is and was quite rude tbh especially if the locking herself in a car with Richard X isn’t true. Also the fact that neither spoke out to rubbish the rumour and just let it happen when it didn’t according to this is really quite shitty.

Nice to know the true story, I guess at the time it fit the narrative that she was eccentric and unhinged to let people believe what had been made up.

Nice to also know Geri was so considerate of her being sick aswell. You can just imagine the media also putting another spin on that story to make her look bad.

I mean let's be honest Geri was a little unhinged by that point, the Something About Geri documentary showed she had changed quite a bit. She seems to have found herself a lot better since and seems much more happier, settled and caring of others again.

You have to remember how edited that doc was and how much "normal" material was left on the cutting room floor.

I haven't watched the Something About Geri documentary in ages, but from what I remember...it's a super unusual piece of television. She doesn't do/say anything outrageously offensive. It's just...going out of its way to find things that are mildly unflattering? She doesn't have a bag to pick up dog doo. She haggles the price of something at a market. What purpose did the show have other than to paint someone in a bad light? It's certainly not good television or worthy of air. Production quality is unusually poor. There are moments here and there where she's mildly egotistical...but in an age where artists pride themselves on their titanic egos, I think it's relatively quaint that Geri merely acknowledges her #1s and is a little upset her family can't come to a show.

This is great from La Halliwell :cheer:

We do love an inclusive queen and I do appreciate how much Geri has grown on these issues and has always been vocal in her support to the LGBTQ+ community.

Geri Halliwell backs trans-inclusive rewrite of classic anthem It’s Raining Men

Spice Girls legend Geri Halliwell has endorsed trans artist Mila Jam’s remake of the classic 80s hit It’s Raining Men.

The song has been transformed into a non-binary anthem, nearly 40 years after The Weather Girls first released the hit in 1982 and 20 years since Geri Halliwell’s own iconic version in 2001.

The modern-day makeover sees the disco anthem reimagined as It’s Raining Them, performed by Mila Jam and a cast of trans and non-binary dancers.

On her Instagram stories, Halliwell posted Mila Jam’s video and wrote: “This is about inclusion and freedom to be yourself, always.”

She added: “He, she, them – whatever your pronouns may be. Everyone is welcome. Great job, Mila Jam.”

Geri Halliwell endorsed Mila Jam's remake of 'It's Raining Men' on Instagram.

The all-inclusive anthem and music video features gender-neutral lyrics in support of trans and non-binary people. The track is a brand new Deezer Originals, with an accompanying music video on YouTube, and 100 per cent of streaming revenue from Deezer will go to national trans charity Gendered Intelligence.

This includes the lyrics changing from “Tall, blonde, dark and lean / Rough and tough and strong and mean” to “Cool, bold, strong and keen / Proud and loud and here and seen.” The new track has the full support of It’s Raining Men original songwriter, Paul Shaffer.

Mila Jam is a prominent trans activist in the US, as well as a Broadway performer and music artist – who counts Laverne Cox, Angelica Ross and Drag Race star Peppermint among her fans.

She said: “It’s an honour to perform It’s Raining Them. For all artists in the LGBTQ+ community I believe the future is ours, it’s now, and we must shine.

“We haven’t always been in this position, so I think it’s important that we tell our stories and make some good out of it. I really hope this record helps more of my siblings feel included.

“We’ve always been here, we aren’t going anywhere, and we must continue to dance.”

I saw that and was going to post it myself! Amazing to see her being so inclusive and supporting LGBTQ+ and trans / binary / non-binary etc rights!

Woah! Already looking like a 90s superstar, a couple of years before fame. 1994 - of course the year that the Spice Girls were put together. So this shoot mustn't have been much more than a few weeks or months before.

One year ago Geri blessed us with this multidisciplinary project: Rainbow Woman 🌈

God save Geri, the Queen

We didn't even get an EP of songs or something out of it either...
It could be an extra disc to her Greatest Hit plus unreleased stuff like Some Girls, Geri version and other rarities. But I have a feeling she doesn’t care about music that much nowadays.
The single worst project and Spice Girl has done. Completely pointless, directionless and boring. Her talking over lyric videos was trolling I'm sure.
