2 weeks number one! I mean estelle deserves succes at the moment, I think so! so AB should be 2 weeks number one, and then something new

At this rate we end up with a #1 each month

At this rate we'll have just 10 number 1's this year!

 

But i prefer number 1's round about 6 weeks, nowadays its more like "who will knock so and so off number 1?" rather than "who will be number 1 next week"

 

I think we're having a slower chart because lots of people let music come to them, rather than looking for it

I agree 41 No1's in 2000 was a complete and utter joke and for a decade from 1996 - 2006 I'd say there were too many disposable 1 or 2 week No1's. Who even remembers half of them or what they were doing when each one was No1? Who's gonna forget the rainfest summer of last year which co-incided with the 10 weeks of Umbrella? Who cares or even remembers that Oxide & Nutrino or the Corrs had fleeting No1's in 2000? Remember what was happening in that week? lol. I don't mind the odd 1 week No1's in a blue moon but it's all about the longer ones that will envoke memories in the future for me.

 

It will be intresting to see if 2008 is the slowest year for No1 turnover in chart history. 1992 currently holds the record when just 12 records topped the chart. Since Rihanna entered at No1 last year on average a No1 record now spends 4 weeks at No1!

 

On or +ve: Rihanna (10), Sean Kingston (4), Sugababes (4), Leona Lewis (7), Basshunter (5) and Duffy (5) = 6

-ve: Timbaland (2), Robyn (1), Kanye West (2), Katie Melua & Eva Cassidy (1), Leon Jackson (3) & Estelle (2 so far) = 6

 

I like long running number 1s but I don't want every number 1 to do it-they have to be good No.1s. My only real quibble is Basshunter-I'm not sure that track was good enough to be No.1 for more than one week let alone all 5.
