the funniest ones though for me have to be in 2004 when Corrs' Summer Sunshine got to No.1, then the following week was knocked off by Julie & Ludwig's On Again...Off Again. The week after, The Corrs went back to No.1 and then the week after that Julie & Ludwig climbed back to No.1! talk about indecisive!

I'm kind of like at the moment with "American Boy" and "Touch My Body" as of yet it hasn't happened, but it might over the next few weeks.

thing is...if you get bored of the song at No.1 all of a sudden and there are no new songs out to replace it, what other choice do you have than to put an old song back at the top

It's only happened to me once with "About You Now" from Sugababes. But that's only because I got bored of Gimme More from Britney which took the number one from them

I've had quite a few :o Off the top of my head...

Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancing [1 week, 1 week off, 6 weeks on; interrupted by Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars]

Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry [2 weeks, 2006 Xmas #1; dropped out of chart and returned to #1 in July 2007]

Kelis - Lil' Star [3 weeks, 2 weeks off, 1 week on; interrupted by Nelly Furtado - Say It Right]

Rihanna - Umbrella [5 weeks on, 3 weeks off, 1 week on; interrupted by Guri Schanke - Ven a Bailar Conmigo for 1 week and Serebro - Song #1 for 2 weeks]

M.I.A. - Paper Planes [1 week in July 2007, stayed in top 10 until returned to #1 for 1 week in March 2008]

Sugababes - Change [1 week in November 2007, 1 week off, 4 weeks on, 2007 Xmas #1; interrupted by Jordin Sparks - Tattoo]

I'll probably remember more soon :heehee:

  • 9 months later...

Rihanna - Disturbia

2 weeks on, 4 weeks off, 3 weeks on - interupted by The Automatic, Pussycat Dolls and Katy Perry

Girls Aloud - Call The Shots

Chris Brown - With You

and since then

Girls Aloud - Loving Kind aswell

It's only happened twice since my charts inception 9 years ago, the last time was for- Roger Sanchez's "Another Chance" - which had just 1 week in pole position on 1st July 2001, before falling behind Elbow ("Powder Blue") and The Avalanches ("Frontier Psychiatrist") for 3 weeks and then returning on 29th July for 2 further weeks..
  • 1 month later...

Only three songs have gone to #1 twice

Jennifer Lopez- Do It Well (8-5-4-1-2-2-1-2-2-3-3-4-6-7-8-10) My chart was only top 10 back then

The Saturdays- Just Can't Get Enough (1-1-1-2-1-2-4-9) Still charting

Lady Gaga- Poker Face (8-5-3-3-2-2-1-3-1-1-1) Still charting

Only once! And it was my second number one over 5 years ago! Franz Ferdinand 'Take Me Out' spend two weeks at the top before being knocked off for two weeks by LostProphets 'Last Train Home'.

I do tend to not make it happen though. I tend to feel that if it does the song inbetween didn't really deserve to be number one in the first place...

oh my god :o I knew it had happened a lot in my chart over the ten years but I never thought the list was this big...these songs all had 2 or more stints at the top of my chart:

Eiffel 65-Blue (Da Ba Dee)

Ann Lee-Two Times

The Corrs-No Frontiers

ATB-My Dream

Kim Lukas-All I Really Want

Alice Deejay-Will I Ever

Spiller feat Sophie Ellis-Bextor-Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)

Thrillseekers feat Sheryl Deane-Synaesthesia

Fragma feat Maria Rubia-Everytime You Need Me

Caroldene-Time Is A Healer

Christina Aguilera, Mya, Pink and Lil’ Kim-Lady Marmalade

N-Trance-Set You Free 2001

Ian Van Dahl-Will I?

Shakira-Underneath Your Clothes

ATC-Around The World (La La La La La)

Delta Goodrem-Born To Try

Birgitta-Open Your Heart

Delta Goodrem-Innocent Eyes

Motorcycle-As The Rush Comes

Sarah McLachlan-Fallen

Sarah McLachlan-World On Fire

The Corrs-Summer Sunshine

Julie & Ludwig-On Again…Off Again

Missy Higgins-Ten Days

James Blunt-You’re Beautiful

Jo O’Meara-What Hurts The Most

Madonna-Hung Up

Nerina Pallot-Everybody’s Gone To War

All Saints-Rock Steady

Take That-Shine

Scooch-Flying The Flag (For You)

Sara Bareilles-Love Song

Basia Bulat-In The Night

Charlotte Perrelli-Hero

Leona Lewis-Run

Taylor Swift-Love Story

the reason for these yo-yoing runs mostly happens when I have two songs that I love equally tussling for No.1...

I wouldn't rule out Alexander Rybak's Fairytale to join this list in due course :kink: this is the 'Eurovision effect' where I hear songs before ESC, love them, then they fall down and then rise up again in May around the time of the contest

the reason it's so prone to happening in my chart too is because of my instant charting of everything...a lot of these songs I charted as 'album tracks' and then later on they get a proper release and return to the top as a single

All of the following have returned to my number 1 spot since my chart started beginning of last year...

1st: OneRepublic - Say (All I Need) [3-2-1-3-3-4-4-5-1-9-12-11-14-19-22-21-22-24-27-31-32-37-40]- 23 Weeks

2nd: Little Jackie - The World Should Revolve Around Me [3-1-2-5-8-5-1-4-11-19-25-35] - 12 Weeks

3rd: Britney Spears - Womanizer [2-1-1-1-1-1-2-1-3-4-8-13-15-12-14-21-24-23-26-29-37] - 21 Weeks

So looks like only three... SO FAR :kink:

often I'll return a song to No.1 just to flush it out of my system and then it goes into freefall in the following weeks
There're no cases this year so far. But Alexander Rybak may get his 8th (already non-consecutive) week at number one very soon again :kink:
