What a load of rubbish! Judging by the examples given in this thread it's really no wonder why there haven't been many big hits in Spanish, every single one of these songs is dreadful.

No they definately aren't.

La Tortura and Que hiciste are probably in my top 50 of 2007 (i know La Tortura was 2005, but i listened to it loads in 2007)

o...so u get the typical "latin" songs, its sad i would expect higher quality songs would reach the UK... that said, there is no need to critisize latin music, just because you don't understand it....we have amazing singers like MOTEL, MARIAJOSE, ZOE, or PANDA.....theres just not enough influence for them to be big hits

The UK is pretty much against anything not in their own language except for when it's some cheap-ass novelty $h!t and that's a fact.

but let's be honest, since when have the UK charts been a measure of a quality song?

Where's the proof there? When did ANYONE last come and actually promote a single in a foreign language here? there are no foreign hits because no one bothers to release them! When the truly abysmal Daddy Yankee was promoted it went top 5!

Please someone with the power to do so, shut this pointless thread down before I throw my PC out the window!!!!!!!!!!! so many mindless remarks made by clueless people.....

Surely the reputation of ignorance is more than enough to stop anyone even trying to. Even english language songs by non US artists [especially Asian] usually bomb, even WITH promotion. Most people usually can't see past the US for their music, and that's a sad fact that so many people are that narrowminded.

And surely there's anomalies to everything? besides, it was released around the time of summer, people would go abroad and hear it, come back and download, plus Westood hyped it unrationally at the time.

Don't judge a country culture and music by the hits that manage to make it into the UK, it will only make you look stupid and ignorant.

"Crazy frog" was probably the biggest British hits of 2006 worldwide (or one of the biggest because if was the year of James Blunt too if I'm right), and fortunately people all over the world are not that silly to think it represents well british pop culture.

I thought Crazy Frog was a German production, not British?
She's not Spanish but "Mi Chico Latino" by Geri Halliwell reached #1 and that contained some Spanish in it.

hasta la vista baby! In wich 1987 hit are these spanish words?

its pretty normal for people in any one country to like the music that that country produces, it isnt so much 'narrow minded' as cultural. people from countries produce music that is pertainent to them therefore to suppose that all countries musical tastes relate directly to other countries is fataly flawed.

As Spanish I am, I feel sooo ashamed of the spanish songs that charted in the UK....

And I'm sorry, but I think it's not "our" fault from that songs, but yours to like them... lol.

I think it's obvious, not even needed to explain it, but, Aserejé or La Macarena were hits in Spain just like "Can we fix it" by Bob the Builder, or "It's Chico time" were in the UK.

Could you imagine how would you feel if those were the most famous songs abroad sang in your language?????

I asked for proof, so give me some, name me all of these artists from all over the world that have come over here and promoted their songs and flopped? You seem to be so sure that there are loads yet haven't named one?

Hype = promotion. And downloads had minimal affect when that was released. Its not an anomoly t all!

Okay. Utada Hikaru came here, made a video for ''You Make Me Want To Be A Man'' released numerous promo remixes as well as 2 CDs and Vinyls and had MTV specials conducted by MTV, not to mention the widespread but loyal Japanese/Asian music fanbase as well as UK secial edition of her ~English~ album..the single reached #227 and the album didn't chart. [2004]

In recent times [ie since 2008] Rie fu released an album of both Japanese and English works, and has been promoting as much as possible on an indie label..yet even online suppliers didn't even stock her alabum, it took about a month for my copy to arrive and I pre-ordered it.

And for an example with Shakira.. "La Tortura" was promoted on TV, not to mention she has a solid fanbase in the UK and the song was getting some positive respinses from non-fans here..yet the release was pulled. Jennifer Lopez, someone who is [or was ~lulz~] a huge star here tried to promote her spanish single here yet it was never released due to fears of underperforming.

And since when has anyone seen or heard of Daddy Yankee since in the UK? That seems pretty much the case of an anomaly if you ask me. The fact is the UK is xenophobic towards artists either:

a| Not releasing in thr English language.

b| Not being British or American.
