Posted May 4, 200817 yr Well, Portishead's Third has today become their third #2 album :o Portishead, released in 1997, was #2 behind The Verve - Urban Hymns. What was Dummy #2 behind? I remember it climbed the chart from its initial entry in 1994 - but what kept it off #1, and was it in in 94 or 95? Any help would be appreciated!
May 5, 200817 yr I'd love to know what the sales figures were for 'Third' if possible.... every shop I went in in Cardiff this week, Portishead seemed to be selling far more than Madonna.....
May 5, 200817 yr I'd love to know what the sales figures were for 'Third' if possible.... every shop I went in in Cardiff this week, Portishead seemed to be selling far more than Madonna..... Every shop I went into in town in Cambridge last week seemed to have had more copies sold from the shelves than Madonna too, so I had a *tiny* bit of hope before the midweeks. Should get sales figures tomorrow, I estimate Madonna just under 100k and Portishead 60k or thereabouts though.

(Do you get what i mean )
May 5, 200817 yr Dummy climbed to 2 behind Wet Wet Wet's "Picture This" which was on its 3rd and final week at number 1 (before being dethroned by Take That - Nobody Else) It didn't reach number 2 until 1995 - actually it was 13 years ago exactly this week Edited May 5, 200817 yr by ManicKangaroo
May 5, 200817 yr Oh dear GOD. Dummy being robbed by a Wet Wet Wet album is almost like the ultimate insult. :(

May 5, 200817 yr Thanks, trevs :D Was Now 30 out that week, or had it been out for a while? Incidentally, does anyone have the UK sales for Dummy and Portishead, please? Now 30 entered on the combined chart on Sunday 16th Apr 95 at number one, in front of Wet Wet Wet keeping them off the top. Now 30 was a combined no` 1 for 3 weeks. Dummy and Portishead did not show in the year`s top ten albums though. I don`t have any sales info, other than that.

May 5, 200817 yr I have Now 30 - it's a great album, plus it also has Portishead (Glory Box) on it, along with Massive Attack (Protection - with Tracey Thorn) - excellent! Worst song on that album is Hoochie Booty by Ultimate KAOS - terrible!

Up next is "Always Something There To Remind Me" by Tin Tin Out but I think I'll switch to another song that they covered and go for the original version of "Here's Where the Story Ends" by The Sundays, back to 1989... Now you have started me on Massive Attack - I could be some time! Was at my parents earlier, and I found my copy of Risingson on 12" vinyl. I also realised I have Sour Times and Cowboys on 12" too. Shame I no longer have a record player :(
