The winners of the 2002 reality TV show POP STARS: THE RIVALS--the show adopted a new twist on the Popstars theme, picking opposing boy and girl bands to battle it out in the U.K. charts--Girls Aloud triumphed when the single "Sound Of The Underground" b/w "Stay Another Day" topped the charts. Their cover version of the Pretenders' "I'll Stand By You', commissioned by the Children In Need charity, also topped the U.K. charts in December 2004. - HMV

My top 5 prediction, btw:

1. Madonna/JT

2. Wiley

3. Sam Sparro

4. Will.i.am/Cheryl Cole

5. Usher

^ These are the ones Fearne & Reggie had as 'contenders', so no Coldplay in the top 5! :o

I'd be happy with that (heartbreaker), i didnt really expect coldplay to be top 5 really, they arent as far infront on itunes as i thought.

'Can't Speak French' is now my favourite single from Tangled Up thus far, but I'd still put it on the bottom half of the album in terms of quality.

I know what you mean, but its been a success. Its a shame when the public kinda force you to release the safe tracks.

The Kooks formed in 2004 while all four members were attending the Brighton Institute for Modern Music, the rock school set up by Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden. Paying homage to their influences, the group displayed an accessible (and bankable) mix of Brit Pop, Kinks-like hooks, and Libertines-style punk swagger. In 2006, the band's highly anticipated debut album, INSIDE IN/INSIDE OUT, rocketed into the top five of the U.K. album charts. - HMV

Exactly. The 3 singles have neither of the edge, quality or attitude or Girls Aloud-ness I know and love them for. I mean, from 'Something Kinda Oooh' to these. :( And it's a shame as there are such great, classic songs on the album that will never see the light of day. :(

Leona Lewis from Hackney, London was the winner of the third series of the UK reality TV show, THE X FACTOR. Lewis auditioned with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"--in the style of Eva Cassidy rather than Judy Garland--and was eventually crowned the winner on 16th December 2006, polling 60% of the estimated 8 million votes. Her debut single--"A Moment Like This"--was released a matter of days after the final and roared to the top of the UK singles charts claiming the prestigious Christmas number 1 spot, selling over half a million copies on the way. In February 2007, Lewis signed a multi-million dollar contract with Clive Davis' J Records, and began the lengthy process of recording her debut full-length, SPIRIT. The first fruits from the album sessions, Lewis' second single, ôBleeding Loveö, became her second UK number one in October 2007. - HMV
