I was thinking about this the other day but... which song is the longest running song in the Top 75, without actually making Top 40??

I mean Cassie and Scooter are hanging on well... to say theyve never actually reached the Top 40!

Well I was thinking Evelyn King in 1978...but then I thought no she got to 39 with a see-sawing record "Shame", that spent 23 weeks in the top 75. So, I will have to think harder!
Mika's 'Lollipop'?

Technically "Lollipop" was a double A with "Relax Take It Easy", as it was on t`other side.

Barry Manilow spent 10 weeks in the top 75 with "Somewhere In The Night/Copacabana", as a double A side in 1978 that only made 43.

Central Line spent 10 weeks in the top 75 in 1982 with"Walking In To Sunshine", and peaked at 42.

It wasn't credited as such though was it? It was just a b-side in the end?

Yep, there is that.

Postman Pat by Ken Barrie spent a total of 15 weeks between #41-75 in 1982 and 1983 peaking at #44 but the song entered the top 75 three times to achieve this, its longest consecutive run was 8 weeks.

Theme From Big Deal by Bobby G had three chart runs too, peaking at #46, its longest consecutive run was 6 weeks

Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins (from the film Top Gun) reached #45 on a 11 week single chart run. The song subsequently appeared on the B side of the re-issue of Take My Breath Away by Berlin in 1990 which reached #3 but the song was uncredited so it counts as a non-top 40 hit.

Eva Cassidy had a long runner outside the top 40 too as far as I can remember

Its Duffy isnt it with rockferry for consecutive weeks id think.

Best hit not too make the top 40, in 78/79 Gerard Kenny and "New York New York (So Good They Named it Twice)". 8 weeks in the top 75, only got to 42...thrown out of Melody Maker`s chart because of chart hype allegations, when it smashed in at number 30 on the week of release!
Back to Black reached #25, but spent forever in the chart, i think it has probably been her 2nd biggest hit, excluding Valerie

Kenny Loggins did one week more with Danger Zone, as I posted above...

I know Dave, already mentioned about Evelyn "Champayne" King in 1978, but as she entered the chart on Tues 9th May 78...look at this chart run:

72-54-63-51-55-57-59-50-42-50-39-49-43-44-60-59-56-53-49-53-48-57-60 = 23 weeks!

"Shame", only had one week in the top 40 (11 weeks after it entered the top 75) and hung around from May - October 78. So it has to be the longest chart run, not to make the top 30. What an amazing feat, this really was.
