The albums in 77, awash with ABBA, and the EAGLES. The STAR IS BORN soundtrack, included many a song by Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Striesand. This was the 3rd version, of the film. FLEETWOOD MAC had the multi-seller "RUMOURS". Although FLEETWOOD MAC`s singles from it, did not sell that well. JACK JONES had a new album, and again never did a thing ever, on the singles chart in Britain. Jack`s Christmas fav, "DO YOU HEAR WHAT I HERE", actually graced the chart in 1963, when recorded by BING CROSBY. LEO SAYER, and SMOKIE were my favourites, of the day, but the MUPPETS were all over the TV, and "Robin" (Kermit`s nephew), had a hit single. LITTLE FEAT were a Los Angeles set..whose guitar player (Lowell George) passed away a few years later. The band (a R n` B/Country/Rock n` Roll group), stopped performing, and the remaining members, re-formed in the mid-90s. CAT STEVENS album, featured his new single, "REMEMBER THE DAYS OF THE OLD SCHOOL YARD" (a song that also featured ELKIE BROOKES). STEVE MILLER had the album, but singles like "FLY LIKE AN EAGLE (later recorded by SEAL), flopped. The only proper compilation (aside, A STAR IS BORN), in the chart, in the top 30, was HIT ACTION (Which was a selection, of recent hits).

The 4th week (of 5), for ROD STEWART, at the top, on the equivalent to the MRIB Chart, in 1977..I will come back to the SEX PISTOLS shortly..but KENNY ROGERS was back (and even sent up by VAL DOONICAN on the BBC1 show). BARBRA STRIESAND had the title track, from the film, and album. JOE TEX passed away in1981, and here he was still performing in the 70s. THE JACKSONS came up, bright and revitalised minus Tito. CAROLE BAYER SAGER joined forces with a BETTE MIDLER song. VAN MCCOY almost totally re-did "The Hustle", and called it "THE SHUFFLE". It flopped, in the States, but was a big seller in the UK. 10CC, minus GODLEY and CREME, carried on. THE MUPPETS, also recorded "MAH NA MAH NA" (the PIERO UMILIANI song), it was also, featured by an original 1969 recording of the piece, in the BENNY HILL SHOW. MARVIN GAYE was back, and doing well. ROCK FOLLIES was the Thames TV smash, following the trials, and tribulations, of a girl rock group, featuring JULIE COVINGTON, RULA LENSKA (DENNIS WATERMAN`s wife), CHARLOTTE CORNWELL, and SUE JONES-DAVIES (all credited, and billed on the single)!! ELO released another single from the album, "A NEW WORLD RECORD". Disco came from TRAMMPS, and HEATWAVE. BLUE (not the 90s group), were a 70s outfit, asigned to ELTON JOHN`s ROCKET label. Both QUEEN, and GENESIS took tracks, from their E.Ps...QUEEN from "QUEEN`s FIRST E.P". and GENESIS from "SPOT THE PIGEON". EMERSON, LAKE AND PALMER, finally had a single, and was probably the anthem, of a hot summer of 77, with the tune, all over TV, and Radio. FRANKIE MILLER came from Scotland, and the BAY CITY ROLLERS, had their last top 20, hit.

Back on the SEX PISTOLS..Now "GOD SAVE THE QUEEN", was banned everywhere in 1977 (with the Queen`s silver jubilee, in the same week). It has been reported, over the years that it, was actually "conned", by the BBC, and BRITISH MARKET RESEARCH BUREAU..and that they removed it, from the number one spot...Many, bosses etc reckon, it really was the charttopper..I was doing some work, for the BBC, in those days, and definately do not believe, it was removed from that top position. Many shops, refused to stock, the single..it was hard to get hold of. The NME, put it at number one, on the week, of the 18th June 77...that same week, in MELODY MAKER it fell, from 5 - 9. Over, on the BBC, it fell from 2 - 4. Now, the week it went to number 2, on the BBC chart, it was only number 6, in NME, and 5 in MELODY MAKER..This being the 11th June 77 (our week). From, this chart out of the later Record Business/MRIB team, we find it at number 4...MELODY MAKER`s chart covered the Weds - Tues period. NME, the Thurs - Weds period. Our compilation here, covers Sat - Fri. On the 18th June, when NME have it at number one, on our chart, it sticks at 4. I can not believe, that on Saturday 4th June 77, GOD SAVE THE QUEEN, managed to go from 4 - 1, in a day. Obviously, the number of shops/stores etc, was different, from chart to chart, but I can, honestly say I do not, think that the SEX PISTOLS, actually ever overtook ROD STEWART (mainly because it wasn`t being stocked, in many a shop). ROD managed a 5th week, at the top, in both MELODY MAKER, and our chart. However, I have to this day though, felt it rather strange that, KENNY ROGERS, knocked ROD off the top, when he was only number 4, in the other 3, the week, he went to number one...so, on the 18th the sales between number one and number 4, must have been pretty close. I did notice, on the BBC top 30, KENNY ROGERS actually, went down, on the previous week, before he went to number one, on the 18th June, BBC chart.

) Position without downloads, alone. Without downloads alone, ASHLEE SIMPSON is 37, KYLIE 38, RIHANNA (DON`T STOP THE MUSIC) 39, and BLACK KIDS 40.

= Is the Chart Show tv, position.

MINT ROYALE looking like a physical re-release will be available imminently (has sales on a ratio of 60/40, when compared to RIHANNA). It could be too little, too late, for GABRIELLA CILMI (back on shelves, but not over selling, physically).

It has to be noted, that COLDPLAY "VIVA LA VIDA", will be allowed into the official chart, next Friday..tonight would put it at number 11, behind Will I. Am, but I did not include, it (as, I like to compare this chart, to Sunday`s).

On the bubble tonight are: NICKELBACK at 55, with PHOTOGRAPH...also in the top 60, are MARIAH CAREY (BYE BYE), FERGIE, and the BLACK KIDS go back up..Meanwhile JENNIFER HUDSON, SHANNON/EARLE, TIGERSTYLE, are in the top 70, with ONE REPUBLIC (SAY ALL I NEED) at 63. RADIOHEAD are also, in the top 75, with HIGH AND DRY at 75. The losers, this week were DJ DISCIPLE, JOE LEAN, BLACKOUT CREW, DOES IT OFFEND YOU YEAH, LYKKE LI, METROS, and R.E.M. And yes, the BLACKOUT CREW did get released.

Next week look out for entries, for ALICIA KEYES, THE MUSIC, FOALS, JESSE MCCARTNEY, LAURA MARLING, and WE ARE SCIENTISTS (will they hit the top 40?)

Next week`s albums come from: COLDPLAY, FRATELLIS, N.E.R.D, DOLLY PARTON, WHITESNAKE, EMMYLOU HARRIS, JOURNEY, JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN, and new compilation "CIGARETTES AND ALCOHOL".

REMEMBER THIS CHART IS NOT THE OFFICIAL CHART...it is compiled and based on Chart Show tv`s chart, without airplay, and extra sales (from some shop staff, I know, and rising positions, on download sites), to put it up to date. It will however be very close, to Sunday`s official chart, as those that read it every week, already know..even though, like someone said last week, it`s made up..

The Chart Show tv chart, can be seen, on Saturdays (Sky Channel 355), between 1 - 3pm.

Im over joyed with Sara Bareilles posistion and im happy to see Gabriella is finally top 10 aswell.

I'm glad that physical position isn't reflecting the overall position of that hideous Lil' Wayne song.

I hope Elbow hold on to their top 40 position.

cheers dave!

Do you know how many copies Viva La Vida has sold so far in total? I assume it will be eligible from next weekend because the album is released and all track sales can then only then be counted as genuine single sales rather than sales towards the album.

Back to 1977, I never bought into the "God Save The Queen" single reached number one myth. I was surprised to see it as high as #2 back then, I don't know of a record store that actually stocked it around my town. Even Richard Branson has admitted that it never outsold Rod Stewart. That said, Rod Stewart had a very low selling single for a 5 week number one. Perhaps one of the lowest of the 70s for a 5 week chart topper.

Viva La Vida`s download sales, over the last 5 weeks, in total are difficult to arrive at. According to people in the powers that be, this week downloads, of "Vida", are 9,000+. During, the week of 11th May, they say it hit around 12,000 (at number 14, although disqualified). So, that would be 21,000, in those 2 weeks. As, to the other 3 weeks well? It would have fallen quickly, on the 2nd week..bombing out of the top 50, on week three. It must be 30,000+, I would guess. This week (if allowed in, it would, of course be a top 40 re-entry). I would think a top 5 possibility, next week?

As too, Rod in 77, he certainly must have sold very little, for a number one (and a double A side, too). I don`t think "First Cut", was even played on the BBC, in 77 (even though, it was actually classed as A1, and "Talk About It", A2). A Star Is Born, sold more, than Rod..and I just noticed Kenny Rogers, even sold more than him! That really surprised me, because I have always, had reservations, about "Lucille", but then I thought similarly, in 1978 when Brian and Michael, topped the chart, after dropping, a week earlier. Of course, a similar story for "Matchstick Men", as that never made it, to the top, on NME, MELODY MAKER or RECORD BUSINESS either.

Where has Paul Weller fallen to on the Physical Singles chart?

Number 11, a big fall.

:o Great entry into the Top 40 for Scooter At least they have a Top 40 hit from this album now

Happy Alphabeat look set to stay at their positions too and disappointed it may miss Top 10 in the albums chart :( Sara Bareilles could be one of them climbers... the week AFTER the physical :D

I hope Radiohead - Creep can get into the top 40 by Sunday

Well, after examining various download charts, Radiohead could get into the Official top 40. Kat Deluna, would need to go to 36, on iTunes before Sunday, to get in to the Official 40 too.

At the moment, I would say it look`s, like "our top 40", from last night, will probably be the same 40 songs, on the Official chart, but shuffled about, a bit.
