Rapper eyeing Dizzee heights of number one

10:44 | Tuesday July 1, 2008

By Paul Williams

Dizzee Rascal could get off to a perfect start with the first release on his new label currently debuting at the top of the midweek singles chart.

Dance Wiv Me, which is released on his Dirtee Skank label, has opened up a lead of 5,000 sales over the UK’s current number one single, Def Jam/Mercury artist Ne-Yo’s Closer, with the Jive-issued No Air by Jordin Sparks featuring Chris Brown completing the top three.

Dizzee Rascal’s current singles chart peak is 11, achieved by Stand Up Tall in September 2004.

He could be joined in the top five on this coming Sunday’s chart by another new entry, Ministry of Sound act Basshunter whose follow-up to their chart-topping Now You’re Gone, All I Ever Wanted, presently sits at five in the midweeks.

Rock-A-Fella/Mercury act Jay-Z will follow up his Glastonbury performance with 2004 hit 99 Problems/Dirt Off Your Shoulder set to rise from its current chart position of 95 into the Top 40 this weekend. It is likely to be joined by his Linkin Park collaboration Numb/Encore, which on last Sunday’s chart sat at 64.

Parlophone act Coldplay will this Sunday make it four weeks at number one on the albums chart with Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends with A&M/Polydor’s Duffy again set to be their closest challenger with Rockferry. Jive/RCA act Chris Brown is challenging to break into the top three with Exclusive, while three newly-issued albums are looking to break into the Top 10: Relentless/Virgin’s Seth Lakeman with Poor Man’s Heaven; Warner Bros act My Chemical Romance with The Black Parade Is Dead and Infectious/Atlantic act the Subways with All Or Nothing.

For Lakeman and the Subways it would be their first Top 10 albums, having coincidentally both previously peaked at 32 on the chart.

Outside the 10, Vertigo/Mercury’s Dirty Pretty Things will debut with Romance At Short Notice, while new entries in or around the Top 40 are expected from Interscope/Polydor’s G Unit, Eddy Grant with a Mercury/UMTV best of, Eleven Seven’s Motley Crue and David Bowie with EMI set Live Santa Monica ’72.

Sales info from Reiss at CHC

Thanks to Eightiespopkid at haven

no chance of Ironik being top 5...and Jordin's out physically next week...my top 5 prediction for today's mids:

1) Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris (NEW)

2) Ne-Yo (1)

3) Jordin Sparks (3)

4) Coldplay (2)

5) Basshunter (NEW)

01 (NE) Dizzee

02 (NE) Basshunter

03 (03) Jordin

04 (01) NeYo

05 (02) Coldplay

06 (10) Busta

16 (NE) Estelle

16 (NE) Estelle

I doubt that very much. She's struggling to stay in the iTunes top 40 so her physical sales would have to be huge. I want you to be right though. :(

I think it will be

1. Dizzee Rascal

2. Ne-Yo

3. Coldplay

4. Jordin

5. Basshunter

With Basshunter taking #2 or #3 by the end of the week and hopefully Jordin re-entering the top 3.

anyone else think he contenders for no.1 are quite dire. I only really like Jordin and even then i think some of her other songs are better.
16 (NE) Estelle

I was gonna put 26 but thought it was a little low considering she was #1 a few months back..but i see it struggling to make the top 30 in all fairness

I cant belive basshunter is number2 on itunes already such a awful song!

I know, me too!

Its good to see a bit more movement in this weeks chart. I was expecting Neyo to get a 2nd week at no1 but his sales were fairly low last week.
I got excited when I saw Estelle top 30, then saw it was 'American Boy' at least "No Substitute Love" is top 40, it deserves to be at least 30 places higher though.
