Right, having noticed that people seem generally to be struggling with voting these days due to the high quality of the entries, I have a proposal that we increase the amount of countries that could be voted for from 10 to 12 :o Under such a system, the votes would go as follows: 1-10, 12 and 15, instead of the current 1-8, 10 and 12 system that is used. This would help to decrease the struggle with voting where songs that are of very good quality end up missing out due to the competition, and the general trend seems to be that people struggle reducing their votes from around 12 countries to a final 10 (that is to say that there may be others in contention, but the hardest decision tends to come down to the final couple :P). There is the possible disadvantage that the favoured country could be overpowered with the addition of an extra point, but it could be changed from 15 to 14 if such a proposal went through.

 

Ideas? ^_^ Remember that this is just a proposal - it won't go ahead if it's unpopular :P

I guess so yes, this year i didnt really have trouble chosing which 10 countries, it was more of a question of that i founf it hard to chose which song to give 12 points to out of around 6 of them and so on.

I'm not so sure, although I think it's difficult to choose which songs you want to give points to it means that when a country actually scores points it has a greater meaning . I'd rather only the songs which I think are outstanding get points than songs which I think are ok. Does that make sense?

Absolutely not. It might be a struggle for people to get down to ten, but they always manage it.

No, although it would be nice to have an extra two countries to vote for......it would just mess things up.

 

I think that's being a bit too nice allowing extra countries to vote for, you have to be a bit tough sometimes or everything's going to go haywire.

 

and no I haven't found it overly difficult to decide who I'm going to vote for this time, I only had about 14 countries I wanted to vote for but it wasn't too difficult to chop four off.

to reduce the number of countries to choose from, the answer is simple...reduce the number of finalists from 27 to 24/25...

 

I know I've done 27 this time, but I still feel its a bit excessive for a final, in hindsight perhaps I should have done a 25 song final with 11 from each semi and the 3 autoqualifiers

Yeah, i think that we need to have less countries choose from, 24-25 fits well, but 22-23 is not enough :o

 

I don't want the number of countries to decrease much like it happened in the 4th edition, Eledan's debut contest with only 20 countries participating :o

I totally agree with this.

 

Also, part of the fun of this Game is trying to get the votes down to the songs you can give points for and agonizing over those you fail to give points to.

The best amount of countries for the final is 24-26. I remember in mine there was only 20, but it did make it easier to host and the low-keyness of it was actually quite nice. ^_^
