Can you imagine the whingeing when we host the thing? By 2012, the Olympics will have been damned as a 'national folly', like the Millennium Dome, only with javelins. Everywhere, people will be moaning that they never wanted them in the first place. And while much has been made of the Chinese public being ordered to view their Olympics as the 'pivotal moment of their generation', I can't imagine them pulling that off here. Refuseniks and curmudgeons that we are, the British Olympics probably won't even rate as the pivotal moment of the fortnight.

 

Absolutely SPOT ON this part.... The cost of hosting this thing is gonna cripple the city of London for decades to come, possibly even worse than the crippling economic effects that the Montreal games had on that city in the early 70s (I believe they're still paying for them there to this day).... First it was 2 billion, then 4, then 6, then 9...... Er..... "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated....?" As a great man once said.... I live in London, and my bloody GRANDCHILDREN will probably still be paying for this SH!TE...... <_< Overhyped, overproduced and over here...... I once loved the Olympics - NO MORE......

 

So are people in 2012 going to be watching if they don't agree with Afghanistan and Iraq? Britain are hardly whiter than white at the moment being a lapdog to the US, shall be interesting to see what rumpus occurs on our torch relay before the Games.

 

And I too, watch the games not to support China, but to support people who have spent 4 years of their life training for one day, one chance (or two depending on event) of winning a gold medal.

Well done to Rebecca Adlington who won a gold medal in the 400m Freestyle, the first Swimming Gold Medal for Britain in about 40 years I think it was! And also Jackson (can't remember her first name), who also won Bronze in the same event. :D

 

Two Gold medals and a Bronze so far, all won by women.

I was so annoyed earlier when I found out i'd just missed Britain win a Gold in the 400m Freestyle! I was up till 4am watching the Olympics and I must have missed it by 20 minutes or so.

 

Now suprise Murray is out really either. :lol: Just watching the highlights now and you can see he's holding back... and let's be honest he had a really tough draw as it was as he'd be facing Nadal in the quarter finals, so it's no suprise at all he's saving himself for the US Open. :lol:

Russia has 2 silver and 2 bronze medals so far :o

Whilst there might be *some* protests if we're still in Iraq, I doubt it'll be anywhere near like what we had in London, Paris and San Francisco this year.

I agree. I don't care where they are - I'm not watching for politics, I'm watching to support the Americans :) Or whoever else I decide to pull for. Mainly GB and Canada.

By 2012 we will hopefully have a change of Govt, and hopefully our troops will be out of Iraq and Afghanistan... But these things are FAR from being the only reasons for Londoners to be p!issed off.... I really don't think you have any idea whatsoever of the growing discontent and anger many Londoners are feeling about 2012, especially regarding the bare-faced lies that were told about the costs, which are ever spiralling and growing more and more out of control every year....

 

Today has been a very good day for the American swim team & men's gymnastics team :) :cheer: All six swimmers got medals, I hear, and we got four golds in a row, from what I was watching. I'm not paying quite as much attention atm but I just heard that we have been the only faultless gymnastics team tonight. :dance:

 

United States leads China by .825, and France by three points? And we are the most consistent team. Thank you Mr. Announcer Guy for letting me know.

Murray isn't really that much different from Henma, yeah they can both get so far, but when it comes to actually winning something they both blow out. :lol:

I think he underestimated his opponent personally. Murray didn't play to hiis full game, and there was no need to really - but his opponent was really top of his game. Murray's #1 target at the Olympics would be to win the doubles with his brother. If he'd gone far in the doubles and the singles then he'd have been pretty shattered for the US Open.

Yeah we've been shaving many many seconds (like... 5) off the British records this olympics. Its been the most successful sport in terms of improvement this olympics for Britain imo. :D

I'm a bit disappointed in the bronze. Given that half these people go out regularly with their ponies (chasing their dogs that rip the heads off foxes) you'd think they could manage at least silver. Britain used to be really great in eventing but has gone downhill steadily (unlike the horses :lol: ). I suppose I'm a bit of a snob in reverse though really - there are certains sports that (realistically) only rich people can take up - horse-riding and yachting being two of them. Hence I really have not interest in them. I just really like the swimming and the athletics.
