Well, I think Duffy might end up higher, only because it´s been around since ages, and Dido´s album will have only 2 months. I know Dido´s new album might not be as huge as her first 2, but come on, flopping??? There is no real possibility for that. Coming from 2 albums that sold 3 million, and releasing in November, this album just doesn´t have any REAL chances of selling anywhere lower then 1 million in the UK - which would not be as good as her first 2 albums, but still enough to lead 99% of other females stars in the dust. I reckon Dido´s 3rd album will be inside the top 10 or even Top 5 of 2008 even if she releases a lead single with no sucess and minimal promotion.

She won´t do a "James Blunt". Don´t forget she has passed the "difficult 2nd album" test. By making her 2nd album sell almost the same as her debut she has proven herself not to be just a "fever" or a one album artist. Plus, Sony/BMG will put tons of money into promoting this, cause they know she is their biggest hope of the year.

I reckon Duffy and Amy Winehouse won´t be such hugesellers with their next albums. If you look back in history, for artists who had massive selling debuts, Dido is the only exception to achieve the same sales with her 2nd album. Even the Spice Girls, who were a massive fever, after selling 3 million with "Spice" could only sell a 1.7 million with "Spiceworld". Alanis sold 3 million with "Jagged Little Pill" and her 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th albums COMBINED have not matched that already. Shania Twain also sold 3 million with "Come On Over" and her followup wasn´t even a Top 3 hit. Dido´s back to back 3-million-sellers is a rare feat in UK music history, if not unique, so her 3rd album will sell 1 million with much ease just on the vacuum of this sucess.

It will probably be Dido..although I would prefer Duffy. Dido is releasing her new album fairly close to Christmas when sales will be high and her last 2 albums have topped the charts for weeks. I would expect this to do well but Duffy may have sold alot more of her album by then too.
And don´t rule out Coldplay... Their album has already sold 800k in just a few weeks, and if Lost becomes the huge hit I believe it will be, it will make sales skyrocket.
cud oasis be a threat to both??

No, they may well do 1 million+ though.

Is this a serious competition? Duffy´s album has been selling the whole year, and it even has a re-release coming soon... Dido´s album will be released just 6 weeks before the end of the year. Even if Dido´s album was like the most sucessful release EVER, it wouldn´t be the top sellers of the year simply cause it has no time! Duffy will probably close this year with 2 million copies sold. To reach this amount in just 6 weeks, Dido´s album would need to sell an average 300,000 a week, which is just beyond human to expect. People forget that this is a low key album with small promotion.
Some people are gonna be disappointed -_-

Nobody will be disapointed, unless it´s completely delluded to think Dido´s album would sell in just 6 weeks what Duffy has been selling for 12 months. That´s hardly a competition. Plus, it doesn´t matter how much it sells and where it ends up on year ends listing... Dido´s album is just going to have massive sales dead cert.

cud oasis be a threat to both??

No, they may have big first week sales but Don't Believe The Truth is still under a million sales.

Yep, the deluxe version (stupid rip-off idea that shouldn't be allowed for any album) of Rockferry is due for release and will ensure Duffy well out-sells Dido. Apart from anything else, Dido's first single from the new album is one of her most bland offerings to date :( .

"stupid rip-off idea that shouldn't be allowed for any album"

Agree with that, total rip-off and some people buy it again.

At least, Dido is putting a deluxe edition of her album out on the same date as the "normal" version. That´s more honest to the fans. I reckon it´s not Duffy´s fault, tough, record labels are doing this with everyone to cash in the maximum as possible. I wonder if Duffy´s followup album will be as big as her first one. Cause I really lost the count, this decade, how many artists broke with an enormous sucess with their first mainstream album that it looked like they would enter the all time pop pantheon, but then just followed it with something that sold 1/3rd or even less. The list is enormous: James Blunt, David Gray, Scissor Sisters, Keane, Killers, Maroon 5, etc. They all had a breaktrough album that sold so much it seemed like there was simply no stopping them, but then followed it with an album that was just "moderately" sucessful. So far, Dido has been the only one who followed a truly massive album with a second album with practically equal sales. She doesn´t really have the obrigation to have another huge album this time around (and I think she won´t), cause she already had 2, when most artists simply can past the "difficult second album..." test. It seems that many artists are getting to big with just 1 album this days due to immense hype they receive. But after the 2nd album, they just aren´t "hot news" anymore, and magazines and Radio 1 will just start to crazily promote someone newer, and then the hype fades. In the old days, being sucessful for a longer period ensured artists bigger sales, cause their credibility would just grow. Now, sales aren´t based on credibility, just hype, and things are working the contrary: the older you are, the more albums you´ve released, the more your hype is fading, so less interesting you are.

To have 2 back-to-back 3 million sellers in UK is already enough for her to leave her mark in music. Dido never really enjoyed being a "celebrity", altough she pretty much did her job in the past performing on TV shows and doing interviews. She´s older now, and 4 years out of the spotlight might have made her even more "camera shy", plus, with the death of her father it seems that she became even more melancholic. If you look at new pictures she looks a lot thinner compared to her "No Angel" days, and she hardly appears smiling in the videos like she used to be in the past. I think Dido won´t really move a finger to make this album a sucess. If it just happens "magically", then it´s okay, but if it demands her any exposure or hard work, I think she´s not going for it.

I'm just gonna download the new Duffy tracks. I did it when Maroon 5 brought out their deluxe edition. If Dido is releasing a deluxe the same week as the normal version then I guess I'll go for the deluxe.

But as for massive first albums-who apart from Duffy has done that this year? I think album sales are rapidly declining and only the REALLY good new talent is shining.
