Still i don't know many people that buy or even download albums anymore who are pop-py people. They tend to only listen to singles.

You say 'an' when the start of the next word begins with a vowel sound. R&B is spoken as "arr and bee" which would begin with a vowel. It'd be easy to say "if the following word begins with a vowel use 'an'", but that's not the case. You wouldn't say "Ne-Yo is an unique talent" for example because 'unique' begins with a 'y' sound.
