Oooh I guess I'm truly a rare breed then... I'm 22, clearly in Radio 1's demographic and I love Will Young, have done since he won Pop Idol all those years ago and I was 16 then so to say he doesn't appeal to young people is a sweeping statement. I have been to lots of his concerts and even I was truly amazed at the wide spread age of people in the audience, groups of teenagers, young couples in their 20s, it is not a tiny minority, it is much bigger than you'd think -_- Anyway I digress

 

Last night I downloaded Changes but I also downloaded Sex on Fire. I like a huge range of music so what. I'm pleased to see Will doing so well and was equally thrilled to see the unexpected surge of Kings of Leon! :dance:

Well all I can say is there must be a heck of a lot of closet Will fans out there because he sold almost 1,600,000 of Friday's Child and over 1,000,000 of Keep On just in the UK :lol:

 

The same could be said for Westlife, they always sell yet they clearly aren't in Radio 1's demographic...

Maybe they should have a rethink then & appeal to a broader band of listener. Perhaps then they would stop losing listeners & have a bigger audience like radio 2.

 

As munchkin says they have playlisted Will Younng's tracks in the past so why not now? As for the gig at Islington it was sold almost entirely to his websites which I agree is predominantley older fans. There is a much broader mix of fans at his tours & everyone who turned up to watch at the festivals weren't the audience you describe.

 

We'll just have to disagree that it isn't personal but Will is doing very well on airplay without them so it's all good. :D

What would be the point in Radio 1 and Radio 2 playlists looking so similar? They're two completely different stations with two completely different target audiences. No not EVERYONE will fit in but not everyone fits in with anything, it's still a majority. You look at the two playlist and it's quite clear which one Will Young fits in most...

Radio one and radio two often have the same artists in their playlist- Sugarbabes and James morrison for example. I don't think they discus with each other, 'you have this one and we'll have that one' :D

 

I disagree that Will doesn't fit the radio one demographic. His Live lounge version of Hey Ya was voted best LL cover the year he did it. Also, radio one championed his best breakthrough artist Brit. Chris Moyles and Jo Whiley have both interviewed him - Chris several times. Switch it on was A listed - after that something went wrong, and he has been largely ignored since.

 

Maybe he was a pain in the arse or something :)

 

Changes is as good a pop song as Lies, and better than Girls or You Make it Real - in my opinion - and also in the opinion of Music week, who have it as their record of the week this week.

 

 

Radio 1 actually abide by that extract of their faq, i don't know why everyone is complaining. Remember Chris Moyles was complaining that Doug Walker- The Mystery wasn't playlisted? He doesn't seem to get that much say.
