Chart Commentary

Biffy Clyro hang on for a second week at No.1 with ‘Mountains’, while Katy Perry falls amazingly 6 places to No.8 with ‘I Kissed A Girl’, which gives the top 7 a fresh look. Firstly with Oasis up 13 places to No.2 with their lead single ‘The Shock Of The Lightning’ of their new studio album ‘Dig Your Own Soul’. Oasis seem to be back on form, and another classic single to remember in years to come, along with the likes of ‘Wonderwall’, ‘Live Forever’, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ and many others.

Kings Of Leon peaks at No.3 this week with ‘Sex On Fire’ a place lower Duffy continues to climb up the chart to No.4 with her brand new release ‘Stepping Stone’ taken from her debut studio album ‘Rockferry’ with sales over a million and also bags the best selling single of the year - ‘Mercy’. While Rihanna edges a couple of places up the chart to No.6 with ‘Disturbia’, the single can also be found on her studio album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’. Rihanna just continues to churn hit after hit with infectious hooks and lyrics to her tracks each time.

New Zealander born singer songwriter Pip Brown otherwise known as Ladyhawke climbs 17 places to No.7 with another infectious track to her debut single ‘Paris Is Burning’ with her infectious new track ‘Dusk Til’ Dawn’, taken from her debut studio album ‘Ladyhawke’. Ladyhawke was first attached to a four piece rock Wellington band ‘Two Lane Backtop’ in 2001 and disbanded 2 years later, her music influences are the likes of Stevie Nicks, Deep Purple and Joan Jett. Ladyhawke named herself after Rutger Hauer film ‘Ladyhawke’.

The highest new entry of 4 at No.20 comes from the Black Kids who are an American indie pop band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, with their brand new track ‘Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo)’ taken from their debut studio album ‘Partie Traumatic’ with producer Bernard Butler. The band consists of Reggie Youngblood on Guitar and vocals, Owen Holmes on bass guitar, Kevin Snow on drums, Dawn Watley on keyboards and vocals, and Reggie's sister Ali Youngblood also on keyboards and vocals.

Imogen Heap, Ne-Yo and the Zutons make up the reminder of this week’s new entries inside the top 40 chart. Will Biffy Clyro maintain their 100% record at No.1 for another week, or will Oasis edge themselves one place better unless Ladyhawke snatch victory, tune in 7 days time and find out.
