November 13, 20159 yr Author Update time :cheer: Such old news, but Deandria came 16th in the Near-misses spinoff with the 90s rave-y track 'Ivory' by Skin Up. We received 51 points. What a cool track that is. In BJSC 79, we sent the fun pop tune 'Sit Still, Look Pretty' by Daya, which gave us our first qualification following our return after a long break (WHYYYY did 'Calm Down' not qualify? :P)! The song received 203 points in the final, which is the most points ever garnered by this nation in the main contest. It came 15th. Deandria managed to achieve 2nd place in the 2015 Halloween spinoff with the incredible and powerful 'Zombie' by The Cranberries, with 215 points! I'm really chuffed, despite being aware that I was being on the cheap side. Spinoff or not, it is my best result ever, both points-wise and position-wise. My best result position-wise in the main contest remains my first ever entry when Ladytron's 'Destroy Everything You Touch' came fourth back in 2008, but hopefully this fun electropop tune by Swedish artist Ms. Henrik can change that by doing even better! aB9vQs5nzoo So this is obviously what I've sent to BJSC 80, and I find it to be an addictive song. At first I wasn't mad about the vocals but loved the instrumental, but now the vocals have grown on me too and I find it a very enjoyable, catchy listen. The video is also fun to watch. This is the most camp thing Deandria has ever sent, surely :kink: Edited November 13, 20159 yr by Matt O
November 22, 20159 yr Author Unfortunately 'Slow Dancing' did not slow dance into the final of BJSC 80. It came 26th out of 32 in the semi, with 32 points given by six countries. It managed to make its way into the top three of both Quintessa's and Thelonia's votes, which is nice  Looking forward to future contests!
December 5, 20159 yr Author I wanted to write a little something up right about now because this year I returned to BJSC after a long break and I’ve probably been enjoying the contest more than ever after that break. The quality overall has been great since my return and it’s been really fun and interesting. There has been great variety and in every contest there have been songs that I have really connected with in some way and I've made some fantastic discoveries. So glad to be back. I decided to do write-ups of all the songs that have received maximum points from me in all the finals of BJSC, including the spin-offs, that I have voted in this year. I might also do some sort of Deandria thing at some point, but right now I would just like to pay a sort of tribute to the songs that I was obviously the most excited about at the time of each final I was involved with this year, apart from my own. I'll be doing them in order of contests - first the regular contests, then the spin-offs. No rankings, sorry :kink: Sorry for not doing a big countdown of 50 or 100 songs like some are doing, but this is what I felt like doing at the moment and as I said, I might get around to doing something similar of this nature later at some point. So I’ll be starting with these two… BJSC 77: Jukianië - Raye - Bet U Wish http://i.imgur.com/fN8TyEL.png Came 35th with 140 points. oq24pHKwsvc This song connected with me from the moment I first heard it because around the time of that contest, this kind of music was really starting to speak to me somehow. The song seems quite low-key, but actually hits me hard. I find the melody very moving and the whole sort of alternative r&b vibe of the song is something that I enjoy immensely. I was obviously disappointed to see this entry come as low as 35th (lowest position out of all the songs I'll be posting about in this), but in a way it is one that is especially special to me due to it being my favourite entry of my return contest. Bet u wish you would've given it more points? BJSC 78: N DNTN – Hannah Diamond – Every Night http://i.imgur.com/00XGUsA.png Came 9th with 221 points. EPFvbc4onks If I could sit down with any song in the world and feed it marshmallows whilst smiling ecstatically, it would be this one. Adorable doesn’t begin to cover it. When I first heard the song as I was going through the songs in that contest, I didn’t particularly get it but at some point everything just CLICKED. I’m still so in love with this song. It is just too damn cute. Sometimes I wonder, and I have said this before, that if that same contest was to happen again, would I give Jadakissnia’s also amazing ‘Virtual Paradise’ entry the much desired 18 points instead of 15? I have thought about it just now and figured that as much as I completely adore both songs, I probably wouldn’t change a thing, sorry Jade, it was extremely close!
December 5, 20159 yr Author Finishing off the regular contest songs are... BJSC 79: Quintessa – Avec Sans – Resonate http://i.imgur.com/XM3Y2p5.png Came 4th with 251 points. ZNNuIjq5Mfo I still can’t get enough of this dark beauty. It is just stunning. A song by Avec Sans called ‘Heartbreak Hi’ was entered into the contest a few years ago and while I did really like that song as well, I definitely find this to be superior to that one. I’m glad this came as high as 4th, but it’s not like I expected it to come low ^_^ I love the combination of the “sweeping” melody and synths in this song. It makes for a really moving listen and it is currently already at #22 in my most played songs on iTunes! I’ve listened to it on repeat a lot and never tire. It was an absolute pleasure to give this song 18 points. BJSC 80: Terra Avium - Owsey, Jernalism and Resotone - I've Been Secretly Falling Apart http://i.imgur.com/A1DvANt.png Came 3rd with 310 points. 0o_VTdT573Y Somewhat bizarrely, I initially had this in my ‘good’ pile, but that rightfully changed with the second listen during which I moved it right over to the ‘excellent’ pile. What can I say about this song. It is just such a stunningly beautiful song and I’m so glad it was entered into this contest. I’m also very pleased that it managed to connect with so many other people and I was one of three people who gave it 18 points. I was actually expecting for it to get more than that but whatever :kink: So much warmth in this song, despite sounding "chilly" at the same time. My top pointed spin-off songs of the year coming up soon!
December 5, 20159 yr Very nearly matched your 18 pointer twice in a row, with Avec Sans getting my 18 as well and Owsey only just missing out to Wolf Tide. Much love for 'Every Night' as well <3
December 5, 20159 yr Author Now onto the spin-offs, which go a little underrated :( Worldvision: Fljótavik - Romania - Suie Paparude – Plan B http://i.imgur.com/Ds4PrnG.png Came 13th with 131 points. LeyjkcFB7U4 Bizarre techno? In BJSC? Yes :o And Deandria looooves it! I was so excited by this track when I discovered it in the Worldvision contest. It’s something that I would just listen to for no reason other than my own enjoyment, so to hear a song like this in the contest was really refreshing. This track sounds almost… violent in a way? But I really enjoy the beats and general vibe of it. Whenever I listen to it (and I am now as I'm writing this), I never want it to end. It can work as background music and it can also work as something that really draws you in. I’m glad it did reasonably well for Fljótavik as I didn’t particularly expect it to, thinking it wouldn’t be most people's thing. Near-Misses: Aprogonia – M.I.A. – Bad Girls http://i.imgur.com/LPyDnOb.png Came 3rd with 115 points. 2uYs0gJD-LE This is the only song in my list that I knew before the contest. I get such a kick from this song, like so many other M.I.A. songs and it had to get top points from me. I remember being very excited to see that it had been entered into the contest and it made me listen to it way more. Can’t get enough. I was probably expecting it to win somewhat, but obviously 3rd place is impressive, even if it is a little cheap :kink: It’s okay April, I entered a song into the Halloween spinoff that had over 200 million views on YouTube  Halloween: Persephonia Percemetery – SEXWITCH – Kassidat El Hakka http://i.imgur.com/Nnd2JGg.png Came 4th with 178 points. x5icdxxlIoM I remember hearing this for the first time, it was on Dubtrack. I was so drawn in by its uniqueness, hypnotizing nature and just plain twisted weirdness. A perfect entry for a Halloween spin-off. Spooky, interesting, yet sonically enjoyable. Every listen after that one has had a similar effect. It just does things to me, lol. Natasha Khan sings the vocals in this song and I have been a fan of hers ever since she released her debut album as Bat for Lashes. I always found Bat for Lashes to be a little dark also, but this is in a whole other amazing league of darkness. Those screams *.* That's it for now I guess :kink:
January 2, 20169 yr Author For the Christmas spin-off, Deandria decided to go with Vanessa Carlton's stunner of a song 'Hear the Bells'. This captivating (and not particularly Christmassy in an obvious way :kink:) song ended up with the result of 17th with 110 points. The music video, which includes clips from old home movies where Vanessa is a child, is also quite stunning. UAEQILJ3Xd0 Now can we please just get on with the next regular contest already as I have found the winner :kink:
January 22, 20169 yr Author GBrEjsB9LFI Excited about BJSC81 to which I have sent this euphoric stunner of a song
February 4, 20169 yr Always good to see an ~old timer~ country getting a first win especially after so many of your entries have been so underrated. I'm not really that big on 'Sanctuary', certainly not a patch on the previous Allie X entry, but there could have been worse winners ;o Very much looking forward to a Deandria hosted BJSC 82 assuming you will be taking that!
February 4, 20169 yr Very much looking forward to a Deandria hosted BJSC 82 assuming you will be taking that!He could get one of Lottsey to help :D
February 5, 20169 yr Author I just feel like putting this here, it's a little something Dan wrote in his own country's thread ^_^ Always jealous of the fab BJSC commentaries really, haha! I'm happy to let Dan host the next contest, for several reasons I'm not fully comfortable with doing it myself. Good things come to those who wait... 70 contests! In BJSC 11 Deandria debuted with Ladytron 'Destroy Everything You Touch' which was a #4 hit for them. Since then they've came and gone multiple times and not having much luck a lot of the time. They finally get themselves a win this contest though, with their 21st entry - Allie X 'Sanctuary'. This is the first song to be titled 'Sanctuary' to enter the contest although the word has been seen 23 times before as part of the country name 'Ben's Sanctuary', who formerly entered the contest. Allie X was previously entered as well when Hendinia entered her song 'Tumor'. The song finished 7th. Deandria also got 400 points in the process, the 3rd largest points total for a song in BJSC history. Top 5 Largest Points Totals 01. 477 Aquafina / Sigala - Easy Love [#1] 02. 432 Kylienips / Meg Myers - Sorry [#1] 03. 400 Deandria / Allie X - Sanctuary [#1] 04. 377 #00274E / Delta Heavy - Ghost [#1] 05. 366 Espen / Etienne De Crécy & Madeline Folin - You [#2]
February 11, 20169 yr Author Now can we please just get on with the next regular contest already as I have found the winner :kink: lol I called it yo Really excited about the entry I confirmed a few days ago as well. It won't do much I'm sure, but it's something I've been slightly obsessed with lately, it's quirky, arty and maybe even beautiful in a strange way?
February 15, 20169 yr Author Deandria officially presents...!!! (although it's already been presented in previous threads by Dan lol) 8Yu7sbSIGbQ I just love this. It may be weird but it's art. I would find it quite difficult to describe to someone, it is just unique. I hope some people will enjoy it, appreciate it, love it and point it!
February 15, 20169 yr Peeped this when the semis were being unveiled and yasss. I do like it when you dip into 'weird but wonderful' kinda songs like LOLAWOLF.
February 15, 20169 yr Author Peeped this when the semis were being unveiled and yasss. I do like it when you dip into 'weird but wonderful' kinda songs like LOLAWOLF. It does make me think of LOLAWOLF too! My two favourite entries of mine at the moment
