October 6, 200816 yr cheers dave! I'm glad to see this thread -and chart - back again, I know you said you thought it wasn't attracting much interest going from page views etc but it probably gets as many individual people viewing it, just not repeat viewings like the mids thread and your Friday thread do.

Thanks Robbie! I think we get the odd viewer on the "old" chart, as well. Amazingly speaking to Shaun Tilley (who used to do the Luxembourg chart, at it`s end), he said that in those days they used to think they had a crystal ball! But well on ocassion they were quite out, with their previews..constantly using the Luxy playlist(s).
October 6, 200816 yr Love this!! Thanks for posting! :D Not looking forward to Sundays chart! There are hardly any new releases out this week

But well on ocassion they were quite out, with their previews..constantly using the Luxy playlist(s).I hope Shaun was more scientific than Tony Prince when he used to compile the Luxy charts in the 70s - he admitted that he just used to "forecast" how the official BMRB / Radio 1 chart would look the following week! The outcome of "forecasting" was the Luxembourg Top 30... In those days it was easier though as few records entered the official chart inside the top 30 part of the chart that the BBC carried, most entered at #31 to #50 and climbed upwards, so I'd imagine it was a lot easier!

Absolutely. I did a bit of work with the BBC in the 60s/70s, and on the Charts delivered to the Beeb..was a quote saying "Positions 31-50 are for Producer playlists, and must not be referred to on Air". Surprisingly on the BBC`s own produced charts (previous to Feb 69), from October 68 onwards they actually went back to just a top 20. Having compiled a top 30 from August 19th 1967. The BBC Album chart never started to the end of June 69, and also included the BMRB budget albums in it, so it does not match the ones that King Of Skiffle (Lonnie), put up elsewhere!
October 6, 200816 yr Dave - as you were involved in the business back in the 70s - can I ask if you know anything about this? I read at a reputable website that the BMRB in the 1970s had a policy of disqualifying regional hits from the chart unless the record label could prove it was a genuine hit or at the least it was being played on radio stations from outside the area where it was selling. The example given was "There's A Ghost In My House" by R Dean Taylor (a brilliant song!) from 1974 which was at first removed from the chart as its sales were concentrated mainly in Lancashire and Yorkshire (ie it was being played in the Northern Soul clubs and attracting sales in those regions). Apparently the pluggers had to convince the chart compilers that it was a genuine national hit in the making to get it in the charts as it was going to be removed. Instead it was allowed in and charted at #34. Do you know if there could be any truth in what I read?

DLT, at tea time on R1, counted down #s 31-50 for the benefit of record shops as Music Week had apparently gone to press with the incorrect chart. I remember being shocked at them mentioning this part of the chart and it was a total one off.
October 6, 200816 yr Thanks Dave. Fingers crossed for Will. Edited October 6, 200816 yr by truly talented

Certainly BMRB knew the regions where the main sales were coming from. A lot of those re-issues out of the Northern Soul Scene, caused almighty problems. There was a lot of speculation, that the 1975 re-issued "I`m Gonna Run Away From You", and Tami Lynn (released 3 times from the 60s/70s) should have actually re-entered the top 20 back in the Spring of 75. This time though, I believe it just scraped in at 37.
October 6, 200816 yr I love this thread. Kaiser Chiefs  You have Will with Changes at 16 - from 14 - but he was at 17 in last Sunday charts I think? Sue xx
October 6, 200816 yr Author I love this thread. Kaiser Chiefs  You have Will with Changes at 16 - from 14 - but he was at 17 in last Sunday charts I think? Sue xx Yep! Expect him to go back up :D (The previous week`s position would be last Monday`s prediction).
October 6, 200816 yr Author from what you see is Oasis shifting a strong amount of albums? From today`s previews Oasis early sales pattern is ok, but not as good as the early sales of Kings Of Leon on their first day (a couple of weeks ago).
October 6, 200816 yr Yawns, another boring chart next week, looks pretty samey, even the album chart looks bleak as anything. Thanks for taking your time to post the usual Monday thread, it gives some great inside info.
