So Bloc Party return with their best single since, well since 'Flux' which seems so long ago I think. Despite the album on a whole being disliked by critics I think it's their best work, and includes some of their best songs, 'Talons' being a standout on the record. A strong, powerful track with the ever impressive Kele doing an excellent job per usual. Makes them one of my favourite bands ever. FOB on the other hand come back with more un-catchy c**p with an equally bad video to match as well. Shocking how bad they've got lately, at least it's not as bad as that dire cover of 'Beat It' I guess. Single of the week has to go to, shockingly, my own personal chart topper, Girls Alouds 'The Promise'. It took a good few listens to set in but it's by far my favourite single by them now. Catchy, strong vocals and it impresses throughout. Cannot wait for their album now actually. Elsewhere; Keane comeback with a bad song after 'Spiralling' showed just a little promise for me liking them. The new James Bond tune is neithet good nor bad imo, and the LSP's release the 3rd best song from their debut. Don't even get me started on The Pigeon Detectives. Please comment/rate noww.

Keane 'Lovers Are Losing' 7.9 - Well I am pleasently surprised by the new direction Keane have gone!

The Last Shadow Puppets 'My Mistakes Were Made For You' 8.3 - I really like this. But I STILL don't have their album :o

Pigeon Detectives 'Say It Like You Mean It' 3.6 - I've heard better!

Bloc Party aren't exactly my cup of tea, and this is just another one for me, that is just turned off when it comes on. This is just because they're not my type of band. Fall Out Boy, well, they have had stronger songs, thats for sure, but I love this song. Its has grown on me because I thought it went on a bit to start with, but I am now singing along to this song and beginning to like it. As for Girls Aloud, I would say once again, not their strongest, but definetly a song that I really like. I think its another great pop song, I could give 9.9, but this isnt perfect, not their best, but superb nevertheless. The Bond Theme, well, its not really very strong, its a bit of a mish-mash, sort of what you would expect when you put a RnB ballad singer together with a Rock singer. Its not the best, its not the worst. I can listen to it, but not without thinking about the next song. Keane, lets move on, not worth talking about this drone, borrrinngg! The Last Shadow Puppets, this song, sounds like their first, and their second and all the others on the album, I presume. Its got nothing to it, its eery and a bit boring. But, its not that bad! Last, and almost least, Pigeon Detectives. Its just not great quality. I have heard so much better than this, this comes towards the bottom of the pack, sadly.

 

Thats IMO, just incase anybody disagrees!

Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care 10 Definately their best single of all time for me!

The Game feat Lil Wayne – My Life 8 Surprisingly excellent!

Girls Aloud - The Promise 8 Great (obviously... :rolleyes: ) but everyone raving about this has put me off it a bit which sounds a bit stupid to be put off a song/ like a song because of what other people think of it but its true i'm afraid.

Jack White & Alicia Keys – Another Way To Die 7 Catchy but i can never remember how it goes :lol:

Keane - Lovers Are Losing 9 Slow grower and is still growing on me now!

The Last Shadow Puppets - My Mistakes Were Made For You 10 Wasn't too keen on their first 2 singles but this is really brilliant and a contender for #1 on my personal chart. :D

Pigeon Detectives – Say It Like You Mean It 3 Not great at all, but then again it is the Pigeon Detectives.

Jordin Sparks – Tattoo 8 Kinda crappy and boring but i still love it espescially 2nd time around. :P

It's a week of disappointing comebacks with Fall Out Boy's tuneless, shouty effort crashing toward chart floppage. Jack White and Alicia Keys combine to form a force of musical talent but it fails to translate, with the Quantam of Solace theme song being an ear-bleeding mash of ill-matched vocals and indistinguishable melody. Keane fare little better with the bland albeit pleasant 'Lovers Are Losing', not a patch on their album-leading track 'Spiralling', the indie-tinted pop song of the year. Only Girls Aloud manage to get it right; 'The Promise' is a bouncing pop song which dips into pastiche 60s retro and which, despite slightly messy verses, manages to be catchy and credible all at once. Job done.

Fall Out Boy 'I Don’t Care' 2.6 catchy, but I really hate this band, Patrick's voice is not to my taste at all

Girls Aloud 'The Promise' 9.7 for me, their best single to date, I love it

Celine Dion - My Love 6.5/10 it's quite a nice song actually, I almost charted it this week. It's just a bit heard it all before from her. A bit too mellow, but it would probably grow on me if I gave it a chance.

Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care 7.2/10 really catchy but I've only heard a few songs of theirs and they were better so I can see some people's disappointment in this.

Girls Aloud - The Promise 9.1/10 a nice solid return for them. It's only the third song of theirs I would rate 9/10 or more after S!NNN and slightly ahead of CTS.

Jack White & Alicia Keys – Another Way To Die 8.6/10 this gets a bad stigma because it's a Bond theme so comparisons to superior themes are inevitable. I think it's great though, I didn't think they'd work well together but I think they do. It's certainly a slow grower. They only 'problem' with this is that I think it's too much of a theme tune rather than something people would go out and buy as a song in it's own right.

Victoria Hart – I Won’t Give Up7.3/10 this is very old fashioned sounding and that's because it is. It's a previously unrecorded piece of Gershwin music that has been around since WWII. I think it's quite a nice song but 'too retro' to follow in the footsteps of Duffy, Adele etc.

 

I haven't given the Bloc Party, Keane or LSP songs a listen. :o (probably because I like one or none of their previous songs so I didn't give them a chance)

Bloc Party 'Talons' 7 - A good track, but not quite as catchy as Mercury or Flux.

Fall Out Boy 'I Don’t Care' 2 - Any band that contains the tosser that is Pete Wentz I strongly dislike. Their next single that blatantly rips off Duran Duran will do better.

Girls Aloud 'The Promise' 9 - I just love how Girls Aloud fans are not so keen with this musical change of direction (by Xenomania) seeing them go for a more modern soulful 1960s sound, that has seen them gain a wider audience and liked by people who previous disliked their more standard uptempo electronic synth-pop efforts and bad cover versions. Thankfully Cheryl Cole's big mouth in Attitude magazine this week has reminded us why they'll never be as good as the Spice Girls, TLC or Destiny's Child despite Mrs Cashley Cole's delusions.

Jack White & Alicia Keys 'Another Way To Die' 5 - A very weak effort for a Bond movie, until you hear the even worse effort by Duffy.

Keane 'Lovers Are Losing' 6 - Keane really should have released Spiralling on Physical instead as that is a much stronger effort.

The Last Shadow Puppets 'My Mistakes Were Made For You' 7 - A good song, but am I the only one who thought the album was grossly overrated compared to the two Arctic Monkeys albums.

Pigeon Detectives 'Say It Like You Mean It' 4 - Indie by numbers (which is still an improvement on The Kooks), even Radio 1 seems to have got tired of playing their singles.

Girls Aloud 'The Promise' 8.8 Much better than any of the Tangled Up singles, different from their usual and is such a grower, irresistable track.

Jack White & Alicia Keys 'Another Way To Die' 5.5 It's slightly grown on me, but is totally not suited to being a Bond theme whatsoever.

Fight Like Apes can have a strong 9 and Last Shadow Puppets an 8. Nothing else worthy of more than about 3 though, awful week!
