It depends on what's on the deluxe edition and how it is released. If it is released like Rihanna's where she is just putting on 3 more tracks because her album isn't selling well (while her singles are) then no.

An example of when I think a deluxe edition is a good idea is when it is packaged to cater to fans of the artist. Britney Spears is releasing a regular version of her upcoming album, which will have just the cd tracks. But she is also releasing a deluxe edition that includes a documentary, bonus tracks, and the Womanizer video.

Topic on Deluxe Edition albums

If you own the original album say for example Duffy - Rockferry, would you go out and buy the Deluxe Edition as well for the extra tracks, or just say sod it, I stick to the original album.

I would simply download the extra tracks, rather than forking out for the album again...

if it's Oasis then yes .. as i own virtually all their albums etc.

But another act nah depends.. if its out at the same time then maybe.. but if it's a great difference in price then i would leave it.

It really depends on who it is.

I've recently bought M.I.A. - Kala (Expanded Edition) and at the beginning of the year, I bought Bloc Party - AWITC (Deluxe) but they are two of my favourite artists.

There haven't really been any other artists I quite like that have released deluxe editions, but I think if I already owned the original album, I probably wouldn't bother. And seeing as I usually buy the albums I want as soon as they some out, I would usually own the original anyway :drama:

I wouldn't usually buy an album if I had it already (I think the last one I bought a deluxe version of when I had the original album was Madonna - Music!) but if I've been umming and ahing about getting something for a few months, a deluxe version could push me towards buying it (as I think Duffy's deluxe version will).

It depends on who it is. If it's one of my favourite artists then i'll get it regardless, and if it is a genuinely decent deluxe (like Beyonces B'Day) then i'd also get it. Basically, i don't agree with them, but if i liked the original album then i'll always end up buying it. I have both Good Girl Gone Bads :D

I will get Leonas because i don't own the original

It does annoy me when record companies re-release a deluxe edition of an album which only includes 2 or 3 new tracks. Look at Leona Lewis & Spirit. Its just a money making spin by the record companies who are trying to cash in instead of releasing a brand new album.
I would just download the extra tracks... Im not gonna buy a whole album that i already have just because that there are 2 or 3 new tracks.. That why iTunes is there ^_^

There's no point if you have the original.

I love Forgive Me, but there's no point in having Leona's deluxe edition when I already have the original.

Depends entirely on how many tracks are new. If its only 2 or 3, I just download them individually. If it's 6+, I'll buy it again (like Leona's new one with 7 new-to-Europe tracks).
(like Leona's new one with 7 new-to-Europe tracks).

:o I must see the tracklist for this, I thought it was only 'Run' and the two US tracks being added.

I'll buy the Deluxe of Lessons To Be Learned. and i would do the same for the Babes in a heartbeat.

But unless i love the artist i wouldn't.

I wish I had waited before buying Rihanna's GGGB as two of her best songs are not on the copy I own. I think it's a con and is ridiculous tbh. It's nothing but a cash in and people seem to fall for it :/
