Leona Vs Britney Vs Beyonce Vs Christina Vs Alesha

Sounds pretty good, but in reality...no.

Leona, the songs been on the music channel for MONTHS, and available to illegally download for weeks, Its download is released a day after if should have been along with the CD, Seems 3 weeks too late.

Britney, the song was first heard weeks ago, the videos now in its 3rd week and the download has just been released But the CD isnt out for another 3 weeks, i hardly see it doing a 3-3-2-1. CD is too late coming out.

Beyonce, seems to have done well, download this week, CD Next, the video is relatively new & she shpould (and is) doing fine.

Sam with Alesha, unfortunatley just not in the same league.

Christina, only just seen the video, but no CD release atm?

Katy Perry also seems to have peaked 3 weeks before a CD is out

Apart from Beyone and Alesha, everyone has deployed a different strategy for their release.

I agree about Britney; she will peak either this week or next, the Download is released way to early (although she does have an X-Factor appearance).

Alesha should've moved her release to fit in with her Strictly performance as She potentially could've sold bucket loads more had she done.

Why are they releaseing the physicals so late?? The gaps between download and physicals seems to be getting bigger. The same happened with Kylies Wow back in January/Feb.

I know CD singles aren't HUGE sellers, but they could at least make them available for those of us that do still buy them

Back to the topic in question :D i'm really glad Beyonce is leading the pack. Without a doubt the best offering of all the ladies. A bit disappointed in Christinas posision :(

All of them except Beyonce have been really badly handled to be honest!

CDs make so little difference now it doesn't really matter when they're released. To maximise their release you have to release it when downloads are highest, which is impossible to predict as it varies from song to song.

I agree with you RabbitFurCoat.

I have to stay the record label of Britney made a mistake with the download release. In the US it is already available since 2-3 weeks, that means the song can be downloaded since 2-3 weeks too (illegally). So those who couldn't wait just downloaded it illegally and later a lot of those downloaders don't bother to buy the song. The late digital release means a big loss of sales imo.

Record companies have their heads stuck in the sand over stuff like this. Leona's Forgive Me has been available for 7 months - I'm surprised there's any fan who hasn't already played it to death.

Even Alesha had a slightly different strategy. Her download was released Friday Night/Saturday Morning so she had a day to climb up the iTunes chart before the chart for next week started, which is why she entered at #84 this week, it was a bit of a risky strategy but it seems to be working alright.

If they're getting a worldwide release, they should release it everywhere on the same day, that way that will prevent illegal downloads.

Only proper fanbases (Like I have for Britney) have downloaded it illegally but when it's been available for download I downloaded it straight away. And that's because I am a fan of Britney, not everyone is. No names here, but I will call him Bob. Take Bob for example, the other day I asked him if he downloaded Britney's single. He said "No because I have a perfect version of it already" The best way to prevent illegal downloads, is to release the song on the same day, everywhere!

But even that has drawbacks - for example, Australia's anywhere between 8 and 11.5 hours ahead of Britain, so they'll be getting it first. Which means that someone can download it and put in on an illegal place. The only way to prevent it would be to release it at the exact same time (for example, if it's released at 12pm in London, it'll be 1pm in most of Europe, 7am in New York and 10pm in Sydney).

Of course, that'll only work on the first day - then people can illegally download it on the second day, and thus the problem still exists.

That's what I'm saying :D

OK those are only hours, but to wait several weeks, there they have a lot of loss because of the illegal downloads.

The sales are the most important thing not positions, and TBH Sales are pretty impressive at the moment ;)

I think Britney will peak at No.2 , Beyonce may go Number 1 week after next as she has a Strictly performance this Sunday.

Leona will stall at No.6 but it won't harm her carrer , its being played on the radio to death and its on music channels.

Aleisha will get a Top 10

That's the norm for most American artists now. I don't think it'll hamper her chances that much, as illegal downloading effects every artists.

Yes, Britney was just an example of the present :)

Womanizer deserves #1, but as long as it sells well I am happy.

Surely it would be possible to illegally download a song before its been legally released anywhere?

Just because a song is available to buy it doesn't mean any illegal downloader will. If its on limewire they'll get it, no two ways about it or whether its on itunes or not, well from my experience anyway. Most people won't know when something is due to be released on itunes anyway.
