November 10, 200816 yr You left out the new Guns N' Roses single.:P I'll do the honours... Guns N' Roses - 'Chinese Democracy' - 10/10 Axl Rose, we welcome you back to the world of rock. 'Chinese Democracy', the first single of the 14-year-in-the-making album of the same title, gives us just the smallest of tasters of what Mr. Rose and company have been up to over the past decade and a half. The track opens appropriately with quiet Chinese whispers, which within seconds combine rather poignantly with a warning siren, delivering a political statement before the song has even started. It soon kicks off however, Robin Finck intricately laying down a soft lick before sonically blasting us with a razor-sharp, almost staccato riff, that conjures up memories of the Scorpion's hit "Rock You Like A Hurricane". And then it all breaks lose. Axl Rose introduces himself to the 21st century with his trademark, Welcome To The Jungle scream, and plunges straight into the verse. The structure to the verse and chorus is relatively simple, but undeniably effective; Rose's low-key vocals perfectly compliment the bassline, while Ron Thal has added some little guitar flourishes to make the verses that little bit more complex. The guitar solo, a wild dual between Robin Finck and since-departed guitarist Buckethead, will make even the bands biggest critics stand-up and say "Slash who?". The song culminates at an increased pace, before quietening down back into the sounds of the very beginning. And within just over 4 minutes, Guns N' Roses have reintroduced themselves to the world with a bang. It's everything a rock track should have - fantastic vocals, a catchy riff, relevant lyrical content and a blistering guitar solo. Roll on the album on November 24th!
November 10, 200816 yr Not a review but the Pudsey song it features some random people including Carol Smilie, Ashley Jensen, Chris Hoy, Richard Wilson, Edith Bowman and Lorraine Kelly (
November 10, 200816 yr Emmy The Great - We Almost Had A Baby (7”)[Limited] 7.0 pretty good Friendly Fires – Paris (12”) 7.8 dont know why they re-released but yet another great song from FF The Smiths – This Charming Man (7”) 9.9 absolutly amazing, a true indie classic Coldplay – Lost [10/11] 8.0 Yet another solid song from Coldplay Seasick Steve – Walkin’ Man [10/11] 6.9 pretty good tune, from a pretty awesome musican
November 10, 200816 yr Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing 8.9 Incredibly catchy song, can get annoying, but there are more annoying things in life. Beyonce – If I Were A Boy 4.5 Meh. Good vocals, production, but it really bores me, something more inventive please a la Ring The Alarm ;) Brookes Brothers - Tear You Down (12”) 9.5 Possibly my favourite drum and bass song ever! Friendly Fires – Paris (12”) 8.8 This grows on you so slowly i'm forcing myself to listen to it 3 times a day in anticipation  . It is quite good though, very good infact. N-Force - All My Life 6.4 Very tacky, she/they won't give up on trying to be a slutty Cascada will they? The Script – Break Even 7.9 Wrong single choice, still a really good track though  Sneaky Sound System - UFO 6.9 Far from the catchiness of Pictures, this isn't that great :( Coldplay – Lost [10/11] 8.0 Yet another solid song from Coldplay You took the words right out my mouth, Chris :P Sigur Ros - Vid Spilum Endalaust [10/11] 7.3 Ages since i've gotten into/ heard a foreign language song. This is ok, the vocals are quite odd, not sure if its to do with it being Icelandic or just pure wierdness. Taio Cruz - I Just Wanna Know [10/11] 7.6 Good, not very original or inventive but its still fine. Heard some others too, but not really enough to review.
November 10, 200816 yr From what I know: [8.9] Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing Amazing comeback from Alesha! And shows the public have taking a warming to it too as its her first Top 10 single here. I like the latino vibe to it and the breakdown towards the end is just amazing. [5.6] Beyonce – If I Were A Boy Terribly generic and bland song that seems to have found success over much superior songs to it sadly :( The lyrics are also quite cliche and embarrasing too. [7.8] Lemar – If She Knew Really good comeback from him I think! Dunno if I like it as much as his previous stuff such as 'If Theres Any Justice' but much better than his bland MoR stuff from his last album. [6.2] The Script – Break Even Quite bland but it's catchy enough, I think I might like it more than 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved' even. I like the lyrics too.
November 10, 200816 yr [5.6] Beyonce – If I Were A Boy Terribly generic and bland song that seems to have found success over much superior songs to it sadly :( The lyrics are also quite cliche and embarrasing too. I don't see how beyonce's lyrics are embarrassing yet Ciara's "Like A Boy" which had similar lyrics and theme werent? And you bummed the latter
November 10, 200816 yr Songs I know Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing [8.5/10] Great comeback for Alesha and she will get the top 10 hit she has longed for. Beyonce Knowles - If I Were A Boy [9.5/10] Fantastic song for Beyonce. One of her best tunes bar Crazy in Love and so pleased it's doing well in the charts. Lemar - If She Knew [7.5/10] I didn't like this song at first, but it's growing on me. Lemar, along with Girls Aloud and Will Young, has shaken off the reality TV tag and is bringing out some immense songs. New Kids on the Block - Single [2/10] Eurgh what as Ne-Yo thinking when he agreed to duet with NKOTB? Foul. The Script - Break Even [5/10] Nothing special. Quite bland but I spose it's catchy. Don't think it will do that well in the charts...
November 10, 200816 yr Here's my first review of some of this week's records - so be kind :) Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing 8.5/10 Good fun song, reminds me a lot of one of my favourite summer holiday tunes of all time, Mambo No. 5. Not incredible, but nice :) Beyonce – If I Were A Boy 7/10 I don't know what to say apart from very Beyonce-y. A classy downtempo ballad with soulful vocals. It couldn't really be by anyone else. But I'm not a huge fan. Enya - Trains and Winter Rains 7/10 Another artist that can't really be anyone but themselves. It's Enya, and again I'm not a fan. But it's quality music. Mr Superfly - Mr Superfly 3/10 I love eurodance, but Crazy Frog is the worst eurodance artist of all time, so a complete rip-off mixed with the Ryanair jingle really doesn't do it for me. That said, it keeps going round my head again and again and again and... The Script – Break Even 8/10 Nice song by the boys. I wasn't really into The Man... but this is a return to form in my opinion, after the fantastic We Cry. The Smiths – Hand In Glove (7”) 8/10 Classic 80s indie pop. Morrissey and Marr made some of the best songs of all time. But Sandie Shaw's version of this was better. The Smiths – This Charming Man (7”) 9.5/10 Amazing song  Really stood the test of time. Great jangly 80s indie pop, as above :) Sneaky Sound System - UFO 9/10 Really great song, keep hearing it on Galaxy, and it's big in the clubs too. Hope it's a hit. Coldplay – Lost 8.5/10 I'm not a big Coldplay fan, but I loved Viva La Vida, and it's almost as good. Fron Male Voice Choir feat Rolf Harris – Two Little Boys 3/10 One of the worst songs of all time. If it's for charity, I'd make that 5/10, but otherwise it's just horrible :puke2: The Revelations – Its You 10/10 SINGLE OF THE WEEK Wow, I hadn't noticed this was coming out! This song was entered in the UK selection for the Eurovision Song Contest this year, and it really should have won. Superb video too. This won't be a hit sadly, but it's going top 10 in my chart! BlmosFVOlR8 Seal – A Change Is Gonna Come 7.5/10 Classic Sam Cooke song, I love the original, but everything Seal's done since Kiss From A Rose kind of sends me to sleep... Taio Cruz - I Just Wanna Know 7/10 This song is OOOOLD! Not bad, but he could try releasing a new song. And the bit where he says "Strings" makes me laugh :heehee: Tom Jones - If He Should Ever Leave You 9.5/10 Very close to single of the week for me, Tom has always been a fantastic singer, I love him, and this song has a great Northern Soul feeling. I'm not crazy about the lyrics, but anything that sounds good in between Frank Wilson and Chuck Jackson is good for me :) Edited November 11, 200816 yr by TomKay
November 10, 200816 yr I don't see how beyonce's lyrics are embarrassing yet Ciara's "Like A Boy" which had similar lyrics and theme werent? And you bummed the latter  Ciara's lyrics were more clever and didn't have a recycled beat making it generic.
November 10, 200816 yr N-Force - All My Life 6.4 Very tacky, she/they won't give up on trying to be a slutty Cascada will they? The Script – Break Even 7.9 Wrong single choice, still a really good track though   "Slutty Cascada" They are doing everything EXACTLY the same as Cascada at the moment  This is their 'Truly, Madly Deeply'  The Script NEED to release 'Rusty Halo' or 'Talk You Down'
November 11, 200816 yr Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing | 9.0 Beyonce – If I Were A Boy | 7.8 Lemar – If She Knew | 7.5 The Script – Break Even | 6.5 Sneaky Sound System - UFO | 7.3 Good week ^_^ Edited November 11, 200816 yr by James.
November 11, 200816 yr Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing - 7.3 Not as good as lipstick, but still pretty good Beyonce – If I Were A Boy - 7.1 Not as bad as everyone's making it out to be! Not ground-breaking stuff, but decent enough Friendly Fires – Paris (12”) - 8.9 Great, but a re-release?! Why not release Skeleton Boy? Fujiya & Miyagi – Pickpocket (7”) :o How have I not heard this?! I need to get the album, their debut was amazing  Lemar – If She Knew - 8.6 Surprisingly good. Hope it does really well The Smiths – This Charming Man (7”) - 9.3 Classic Coldplay – Lost [10/11] - 7.9 Good 3rd single. The version with Jay-Z is better though Sigur Ros - Vid Spilum Endalaust [10/11] - 9.1 Just pure amazingness  Taio Cruz - I Just Wanna Know [10/11] - 6.8 An alright song, but enough of the re-releases! (Not just TC, but everyone - they seem to be everywhere at the moment!)
November 11, 200816 yr Author 6.7 ;; Alesha Dixon - The Boy Does Nothing 0.2 ;; Beyonce - If I Were A Boy 5.9 ;; Emmy The Great - We Almost Had A Baby (7”)[Limited] 8.3 ;; Friendly Fires - Paris (12”) 7.6 ;; Coldplay - Lost [10/11] 6.5 ;; Sigur Ros - Vid Spilum Endalaust [10/11] Yay for my choices to review. The highlight of the week comes from the ever exciting Friendly Fires with their 12" only re-release of 'Paris', which was released absolutely ages ago now, and serves as the second single from the fabulous self-titled debut album. The song itself is catchy, modern and very well produced. However the Areoplane remix which features Au Revoir Simone is really something else, nearly 8 minutes of pure dance/pop with well suited vocals to match. Elsewhere the much loved Alesha (or Alesha DIXON, as she likes to be called now) releases the first track from her new album 'The Alesha Dixon Show'. It's very nice, again well produced and a very good comeback single which has sadly got caught behind the chart battle at the moment and probably wont do as well as expected. I have low hopes for the album though if the next single/album sampler is anything to go by... Worst track of the week has to go to Mrs. MoR herself Beyonce. A 'slower' track and one that I'm sure will be/is loved by many on here and in the general public. It's a shame she does so well when her much more talented/raw sister flops so badly. Bah. Elsewhere Emmy The Great comes back with a good song, but hardly anything special; I can't help but feel she will be as bland as ever/will have run out of ideas by the time she finally releases an album. Coldplay are back with one of the highlighs of their latest album and Sigur Ros release another good track that will no doubt go unoticed like most other things they've released. :/
