Leona Lewis has claimed the number one spot with latest song Run, which is the fastest-selling digital-only track.

The singer's new hit, which was not originally intended to come out as a single, sold 133,591 copies, more than double the previous mark.

Take That sold 432,000 copies of their new album The Circus to top the charts ahead of The Killers and Lewis.

I'm reading that that Dido is the "soulless puppet" selling 133,591 but i guess thats not what your intending
Leona's sales definitely cooled down towards the week after 70k in 2 days, but still amazing. And brilliant sales for Take That
So "Be Here Now" and "X&Y" have scored higher first week sales then....I doubt any album will top "Be Here Now".
Ignore my last topic, thanks for posting.

Could anyone edit the "soulless puppet" bit ?

I ain't a Leona fan, but I find it rather silly and trouble making ... And not that objective anyway.

Wow! Just goes to show what a discount war, a huge act and Christmas can do for sales

That's an amazing total for Take That and pretty solid for Leona as well.

But everyone here praises her 24/7, so what difference does it make?

133,591 for Leona.!

I wonder how many she would have sold if there had been a physical available as well!.

The Leona Single was always going to be released in the UK. It has been No.1

in Ireland for the past 3 Weeks. That's a clue that a UK Release was planned.

Keeping it on the 'Deluxe' 'Spirit' in the UK - rather than making it a Single 3

Weeks ago - was an obvious ploy,to force people to buy the 'New' version of her

Album. They never bothered using the same trick in Ireland, as only 4 Million people

live there, so there were no huge Album Sales to be gained by holding the release

of 'Run' back for a few Weeks. It is manipulating Leona's UK Fans really - nothing

to do with Simon Cowell being clever.

I have edited it, as it was a bit un-necessary. I also changed the date to reflect the UK way round :P

Thanks for posting!

I think the fact "Be Here Now" is the fastest selling album of all time shows how name alone sells albums, it doesn't even have to be that good an album. The Take That album is big example of that too. I much prefer seeing how an album sells and its positions over its entire chart life rather than in the first few weeks thanks to aggressive marketing campaigns and the Christmas retail bonanza. I also like to see how an album sells globally rather than in the UK, if you concentrate mostly in the UK with a release it will sell a lot more than if an act is spreading themselves more thinly around the world. Coldplay is an example that counters that model, they do well in the US, UK and everywhere else.

Absolutly none, we still think shes great! :)

(although not everyone praises her. But hey, we all have different tastes! : )

I find Leona incredibly over-rated. I find that she's most definitely talented, but I don't enjoy listening to her voice and I'm always going to see Run as Snow Patrol's song. I actually believe it sounds better being sang by a male! The only song that Leona has released so far that I can bare listening to is Better In Time. Her lower voice is annoying and the way she's always up and down can be irritating to listen to. The repetition in Forgive Me and Bleeding Love, especially Bleeding Love, are what makes it worse.

I guess it's all down to personal opinion though. I can see her songs becoming less over-rated over time though, she wont be selling this much forever.

Superb sales for Leona and Take That!!

Fantastic to see a track sell over 100k in a week on just downloads, gives hope that one day legal download single sales can match the heights of CD's in the 90's! :cheer:

Take That could challenge Duffy for the biggest selling album of 2008 if their sales hold up until Christmas.

Take That's album The Circus is #10 in the year to date chart for this year already.
Sales slowed down massively then. Was expecting over 150k.

More to do with the huge sales on day 1 as everyone had been waiting for the track for so long. Sales have been pretty steady all week since.
