NOW 23 paying off well in 92. ERASURE had been number one combined. Lots of greatest hits, with CHER, GLORIA EST-EF-UN (David Jensen circa 1992)!!! SIMPLE MINDS, FREDDIE MERCURY, ABBA (of course). GENESIS` album paid homeage to a 1974 single "I KNOW WHAT I LIKE IN YOUR WARDROBE", that included the line "Me? I`m a Lawnmower...You Can Tell By The Way I Walk!" R.E.M. were at their best. So what does REM stand for? Yep "RAPID EYE MOVEMENT". The soundtrack to the BODYGUARD and Whitney Houston etc, would go on to top the combined albums in Jan 1993. SIMPY RED had been up and down the chart since 1991. DANGEROUS and Jacko, going back up. EROTICA was slumping (like the single) for MADONNA. Early TAKE THAT. "Old" CHRIS REA! ENYA having her annual success. And did we all pick up the number 21 album "MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS?" A collection of 50s hits.

48 35 RUMPSHAKER - WREXX AND EFFECT

49 42 BE MY BABY - VANESSA PARADIS

50 29 CHAINS AROUND MY HEART - RICHARD MARX

WHITNEY ruling the planet in 1992, with the BODYGUARD...I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU originally well played by DOLLY PARTON in 1982. JACKO couldn`t get the Xmas numbe one this year, though he did later with EARTH SONG. CHARLES AND EDDY wouldn`t go away, but follow ups were pretty floppy. Wrestling on the agenda for SLAM JAM. TAKE THAT, and BARRY MANILOW? MADONNA taking another track from EROTICA. SHAMEN having spelling problems. FREDDIE MERCURY a year on from his sad parting. ROD STEWART singing TOM WAITS. BONEY M doing a mega mix of hits. PRODIGY proving more than trance. CLIFF in for Xmas. HEAVEN 17 re-mied from 1983. DIANA ROSS slushy as ever. STEREO MCs sounding rather like a 75 hit for the FATBACK BAND. Did it more than sound like "DO THE BUS STOP?" GLORIA ESTAFAN having her Xmas hit ignored for her mega mix. UB40 joining up with 808 State for a new version of a 1981 toptenner. SIMPLY RED took "LADY GODIVA`S ROOM". LEMONHEADS heading a SIMON AND GARFUNKEL revival. ARRESTED DEVELOPEMENT with one hit down based on SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE circa 1969, they awaited follow up "MR WENDAL". BOYS II MEN with 2 in. UNDERCOVER covering again a ANDREW GOLD 78 hit. MICHAEL BOLTON covering DOBIE GRAY cica 77, that one came from Bolton`s latest covers album. SLIPSTREAM, WREXX AND EFFECT, and SL2 were on the dancey/trancey floor! Early DINA CARROL. EASTSIDE BEAT covering SIMPLE MINDS circa 85. NIRVANA were in Bloom again. KRISS KROSS were still trying to follow up "JUMP", with a message song. GUNS N`ROSES were looking at yesterday. MIKE OLDFIELD sang JORDIN SPARKS...Well, not really this was an instrumental, and nothing to do with Jordin`s song! KWS joining forces with the TRAMMPS and appearing on TOTP. Do we remember the hype of SHAI? All over the press, and Woolworths. MORRISEY had another quick single. Newies from BRAND NEW HEAVIES, LOUIE LOUIE, DISPOSABLE HEROES, UNCANNY ALLIANCE...all songs never heard these days. A 1980 cover from KYLIE, of KOOL AND THE GANG, and why didn`t the DARLENE LOVE rendition of "ALONE ON CHRISTMAS" become bigger in the UK? Maybe because it wasn`t proper English! Shouldn`t it be "Alone AT Chrismas?"

Hang on...Back Soon with the up to minute singles charts...

07 WHAT A NIGHT - HARRY CONNICK JNR

08 A STATE OF TRANCE - ARMIN VAN BUREN

09 GREATEST CONCERTS - FRANK SINATRA

10 POINT OF IT ALL - ANTHONY HAMILTON

Wouldn`t it be different to have Frank Sinatra in the top 40 singles chart, for a change? There was Frank, with a whole host of Christmas songs but they never get into the top 40. The DR DRE album was put back until the 15th, but should have been released last week.

06 06 LIVE-THE WAY WE WALK - GENESIS

GENESIS` album paid homeage to a 1974 single "I KNOW WHAT I LIKE IN YOUR WARDROBE", that included the line "Me? I`m a Lawnmower...You Can Tell By The Way I Walk!"

Going to have to slightly disagree with you here Dave as the album title was bifunctional as there were two separate Live - The Way We Walk albums ....

The 1991 studio album from Genesis was named We Can't Dance and one of the lead singles was "I Can't Dance" with the repeated line "I cant dance, I cant talk. Only thing about me is the way I walk."

During the subsequent "We Can't Dance" tour the band did a very stilted walk during this song, a black and gold silhouetted representation of which on a white background was used as the cover of a live album (with "I Can't Dance" as one of the tracks) released in the UK in November 1992:

"The Way We Walk, Volume One: The Shorts"

Another live album was released shortly after in January 1993 called:

"The Way We Walk, Volume Two: The Longs"

The difference between the two doesn't need explaining .... the second album contained the song you mentioned, "I Know What I Like", as part of a medley thus providing a neat titular bridge between the two live albums. The same silhouette was used on the cover but this time the band members were multicoloured on a white background.

The Short album peaked at #3, the Long album at #1.

Is the Eternal release Vernie, Easter and Kelle? No Louise I suspect. Or something entirely different and I look daft!

03 03 WOULD I LIE TO YOU - CHARLES AND EDDY

04 05 COULD IT BE MAGIC - TAKE THAT

05 04 SLAM JAM - WWF SUPERSTARS

04 DETOXIFICATION - DR DRE

The DR DRE album was put back until the 15th, but should have been released last week.

This Dr Dre album is a mixtape and not his long-postponed Detox album which is now due in 2009

Don't expect big things from it chart-wise

Thanks Dave! Impressed with the pre-orders for Jason Mraz :) Geraldine should SO be Christmas number 2 :)

Actually I made a type error. It`s the group Libera. The Album is the Best Of Eternal. Confusing, but not Eternal as in Louise and Co. That`s because I`ve got this streaming cold! ;)

I hope Bandaged does not push KoL down

Is Terry Wogan close to Kings Of Leon at #2? I really, really don't want him to overtake them for Sunday.

Well Terry has both Physical and Downloads doing good for him. Infact he`s in the running to take 2nd best selling physical of the year! Where as Kings Of Leon`s physicals are well out. Given a Weekend push on downloads, Terry and Aled could take number 2...

:( Oh what a horrible country we live in.

Noooooooooooooooooo

'Folie A Deux' has done quite well on preorders everywhere it would seem. I doubt it will make the top 10 next week though I hope to be proved wrong. It is a huge comedown from 'Infinity On High' though.

Thanks for the charts ^_^
