December 21, 200816 yr OMG... They have released by far the best most consistent album of the past 2 years and they still get dropped!!!!! EMI have obviously lost their sanity..... Anyway who needs them, most artists are releasing via indie labels recently...
December 21, 200816 yr 'Fascination' and 'Boyfriend' are genuine pop classics,,, 'What is happening' and 'Rubberboots' are just amazing hidden gems... 'Go-Go' is one of the best disco tracks released.... Why are they dropping Alphabeat???? it's so unfair
December 23, 200816 yr Boyfriend should have been their 2nd single, would have sold much more/ gone top ten imo There album kinda bomed, but i expected them to come back with a new album, great first single and for it to sell lots... i really think that is still possible! Hopefully a label will pick them up ASAP! The lead singer (the woman) is too talented to just be dropped!
December 24, 200816 yr Boyfriend should have been their 2nd single, would have sold much more/ gone top ten imo There album kinda bomed, but i expected them to come back with a new album, great first single and for it to sell lots... i really think that is still possible! Hopefully a label will pick them up ASAP! The lead singer (the woman) is too talented to just be dropped! Yeah, Boyfriend defo should've been 2nd single. I can't even remember the name of their second single, let alone how it goes.
December 25, 200816 yr Yeah, Boyfriend defo should've been 2nd single. I can't even remember the name of their second single, let alone how it goes. 10000 Nights Of Thunder. I did like that song though
December 28, 200816 yr Been listening to their album this morning and it is a pop masterpiece - They so have many more decent albums in them which probably will never get released in the UK now unless they get signed again soon
December 28, 200816 yr They should have released "Fantastic Six". That might have saved them. Still seems an utterly bizarre decision.
December 30, 200816 yr They should have released "Fantastic Six". That might have saved them. Still seems an utterly bizarre decision. They did, as their very first single, but it flopped.
December 30, 200816 yr Fantastic 6 should have been re-realesead then, it would have done fairly better than What Is Happening i think.
December 31, 200816 yr How???????? I'm actually quite shocked at this. I thought they were doing well
January 12, 200916 yr This is true! I can't believe it! EMI are fools. Maybe they thought Alphabeat had had their day? Weird
January 21, 200916 yr Alphabeat quit record label Wednesday, January 21 2009, 09:29 GMT By Nick Levine, Music Editor Alphabeat have revealed that they have parted ways with EMI Records. The Danish pop group, who scored a top ten hit with 'Fascination' last year, insisted that they left the record label of their own accord. "Have we been dropped? Nope," the group wrote on their MySpace page. "But before Christmas we had the opportunity to leave - and we did. "We (this means us - Alphabeat) sat down round a table before we went on X-Mas holiday and decided that we needed a change before starting recording our new album… and one of the major changes would be a new label!" The group, who released their debut album This Is Alphabeat in June, revealed that they are "signing with a new label as we speak". "We're heading into [the]studio to start recording our new album as soon as possible! We hope to release it during 2009," they added.
January 21, 200916 yr That's good and bad. I can't see them getting the promotion and success that they had at EMI with an indie label...
March 6, 200916 yr Polydor signs Alphabeat 10:42 | Friday March 6, 2009 By Ben Cardew Polydor Records has signed former EMI act Alphabeat to a multi-album deal, in what is the label’s first signing since engaging Ferdy Unger-Hamilton as president. Alphabeat proved a rare breakthrough act for EMI last year, with their debut album This Is Alphabeat going gold and spawning hit single Fascination. Signed to EMI label Charisma, they have now sold more than 400,000 singles across three Top 20 hits in the UK alone. However, they left EMI in December prompting a label scramble, which Polydor eventually won. Unger-Hamilton, who took up his new position in December 8, says, “Alphabeat write pop songs with style, wit and intelligence, grown-up pop with genuine global appeal. They arrived in the UK like a breath of fresh air last year and I’m delighted they are joining us at Polydor.” The band are currently writing songs for their new album, which will be released by Polydor in the UK and Universal affiliates around the world, except their native Denmark, where their releases remain with Copenhagen Records. The band’s manager Iain Watt, of Machine Management, says, “We are thrilled to be signing to one of the UK’s most successful record companies and looking forward to achieving even more success with the band and Polydor in the coming years.”
