Sandi Thom flopped because like so many other acts, she isnt new anymore. KT tunstall was the same with her last album. No doubt Adele will be the same if she comes back with something. I think Mika will also flop when he comes back.

I hope lily allen does well, coz according to my trend, this album will flop. Maybe someone can buck the trend.

The charts are so unpredictable right now, i think there are only 3 or 4 acts in the uk who are gaurenteed to not flop. My suggestions would be take that, coldplay, girls aloud and leona.

Sandi Thom flopped because she was just a one hit wonder in the first place.

The big three flops of the year I think are Sugababes, Dido and Anastacia.

Earth calling Tyler...come in from planet brit fanatic please.....your reality'o'meter is dangerously into the RED!!!

75K at @4 on an Xmas period week is completely average i'm afraid ESPECIALLY when you consider where the record is NOW - what is AMAZING is for it to BOMB so far 2 weeks in a row with all those Xmas shoppers looking for stocking fillers, it won't be even top 20 by the end of the week given its history.

I notice Jive has taught you well with all the HALF TRUTHS U R spouting here eg Why not cf 75k to her last album's opening - the one where she she was having the most NEGATIVE publicity of her career, the one released in November before the high sales Circus benefited from ie Blackout #2 = 50k !!!! 75k is hardly a massive increase considering Xmas sales + she DID promo, without those it might have even sold LESS than Blackout's opening week :o

Circus + "best" together only in the mind of a LOON! fanatic - what are all these reviews saying how overfull of FILLER it is? Its hardly surprising when Jive are nothing but a sausage making manufactured 'music' factory with NO quality control - NO half taken seriously/respected mature act/artist releases a full studio album only a year after the previous one - Jive have just slapped any old SH!T together to get an albums worth of songs, so they can capatalize over "Britney - THE TRIUMPHANT RECOVERY™" (the irony being not only did they do nothing to help her in her most desperate time of need they made her worse by forcing her to keep on the tread MILL - GOD will she die if her Kids see those vids - JIVE is just pure heartless GREED + EVIL)

6 wks in the TOP 10 WOOO! WOOOOO! Perhaps you should check out how long some of Madonnas early 80 songs spent in the Top before you treated us to your convenient dearth of UK chart history (that just coincidently always puts the positive spin on Britneys despite the dismal reality ;) ) Britney came on the scene in 99 when the charts were very unstable - it only as downloads have had progressively more impact on the single charts that the nature of the chart has reversed so its not the big acheivement you are trying to make out (with your convenient Uk chart ignorance - oh you are from USA........but have been "studying" the (Britney part of) UK charts for years )

816,000 !!!!! OMG!!!!! I'm in shock! btw her "flop" album you know when everyone hated her - 'Blackout' wasn't it... would you like to tell its equivalent number ? No, you'd prefer to be indenial as usual?! OK I'll have to deal with the "unpleasant" reality you let your life revolve around . The thing is "FLOP" Blackout SOLD 1,000,000 (yes 1 Million in its first week, last year - much more than her "COMEBACK" Circus sold). Things get BLACKER when you find there is ONLY ONE big country where Circus did sell alot more than BLACKOUT - yes her fellow trailer trash etc came out in their DROVES in the USA for her new album which sold about 500K.......As you can see if you take 500k from 816K you get NOT ALOT left to spread around the rest of the world ie Britney only sells records in the US - a "local" artist. Like in the UK, the rest of world see her for the GOSSIP column filling manufactured puppet she unbelievably STILL is...only now she is also a broken soul that will take many years away from the glare of celebrity to fix.

RIDICULOUS post. Blackout did not even reach 500k worldwide in its 1st week. How did you come with 1million, are you freaking nuts?

Britney is not big in UK, she is a singles seller there (as the success of her Greatest Hits shows), with her studio albums she "only" gets platinum and Blackout did not even reach that. Circus is doing quite ok for her!

We are basically trying to argue with a decrepit brick wall. He will further justify his opinion by babbling more nonsense into another 3 page essay.

KT Tunstall didnt flop her album was a top 3 hit just like her previous one, Her singles are never that massive anyways!

Katie Melua has been a big flop this year, but i suppose shes been flopping all the time she more like a 1 hit wonder, i think anyway, dont really follow her!

She has not released a new album in 2008 apart from her 'Greatest Hits' which reached #15 - Her previous 3 albums charted at #1, #1 and #2 though.

All it takes is one song.

Nobody is guaranteed not to flop.

Im pretty sure she has a single out this week, and from what i see its not even top 200! That spells mega flop!!

Her two first albums have done incredibly well not only in the UK but all over Europe, so she ain't a "one hit wonder" at all.

She released a greatest hits this year if I'm right, so I'm sure she'll be proper back when she will have recorded a brand new album.

The Sugababes and Mariah Carey are the two biggest flop of the year (/of the decade lol) that I can think about really. So much expectactions for such poor sales/quality.

Not really because she has always been more of an album act and so far all 4 of her albums have sold well :)

Chart positions have nothing to do with sales though  125K is still pretty damn good for an album in two weeks, even around Christmas considering the amount of 'stocking fillers' tend to be MOR stuff - such as Take That...

And what reviews are these saying that Circus is full of filler? All the reviews I've read say that it tails off towards the end but are full of praise for the bonus tracks - don't blame Britney for that, blame the idiots that did the tracklisting there.

I actually find it HILARIOUS that you mention Madonna in the context of long runners in the top ten. Hung Up was her first one to spend longer than 9 weeks in the top ten...

Oh, how impressive  Another three weeks on top - when Britney still hasn't finished her top ten run yet. You really do need to get over your obsessive Britney hatred and get your facts right...

Sugababes, Anastacia and Dido are the clear ones obviously. The latter two for just producing absolute tripe. Sugababes music this era is OK but in comparison to their other albums is lame. Sticking to the more edgy stuff is what they needed to do. 'Freak Like Me' et 'Hole In The Head' etc.

And before anyone says they lost their edge after Mutya left.. 'Easy' anyone?

Mariah Carey pretty much f***ed up too :( But she has flopped many a time before so I hope for another Mimi next era.

Mariah of the decade?

The most recent era hasn't done well but Charmy et Glitter anyone?

Have Pussycat Dolls been mentioned yet? It just occured to me how much of a megabomb their album has been. It will probably go on to scrape past 500k in total worldwide.

About Dido, her new album is just as amazing as her two previous ones, maybe my favourite out of them, so her flop isn't due to the quality of her work at all. She took a kinda new direction and haven't done any promotion at all or so, that's why.

And I meant Mariah's new album is one of the most remarquable flop of the decade, not her career overall ;)

I haven't listened to the Dido album so maybe I shouldn't have been so vocal about my opinion. But hey ho thats me all over.

I listened to the lead single and that is just terrible in comparison to other songs I've liked by her. But yes the promotion thing is an issue too obviously.

Well the Mariah flop wasn't really due to quality. I think it's actually one of her best reviewed albums! It was just the sheer stupidity of the single choices.

Even the ANTI-MARIAH love 'Migrate' cryyy etc

Another flop this year has been Travis - Their album reached #20 and spent 2 weeks in the charts and to think a few years ago they were huge!

But Glitter and Charmbracelet were this decade. Mimi and her Greatest Hits have been her only big albums since 2000.

As you said for Dido, it's possibly your favourite of her albums, I think that about Mariah's latest one. It might be because it's the first era Ive followed her in 'real time', so to speak, so I've listened to it more - rather than just downloading an old album as hearing it once or twice - but it's my favourite from her I think.

Bad single choices, along with Mariah getting married and therefore doing little promo let this era down. In retrospect, 'Touch My Body' wasn't such a hot lead single either. It's a nice fun song but you can't lead an album with a jokey single as it doesn't help the album. see also: Sugababes.

All it takes is one song.

Nobody is guaranteed not to flop.

I dont agree with that, the acts i mentioned all create a hysteria when they bring a new single out and have factors which ensure they will never flop.

Take that have a loyal fanbase and mass popularity and appeal.

Leona has the voice and back up from simon cowell and xfactor

Coldplay just would never come back with something unpopular because they know what people like

Girls aloud have the commercialness of being the girl band of now and obviously the xfactor ensures promo for them

^^ those acts only need to be ok, other old acts have to be AMAZING to get noticed when they come back.

Oh, did anyone mention razorlight? That was a flop compared to previous singles/albums.
