12th 41 I Was Born On Christmas Day - Saint Etienne 52 Pts

Back in 1993 this duet featuring the heavenly Sarah Cracknell on vocals with the Charlatans Tim Burgess only made UK#39. But it is fair to say it has become an Indie Dance classic.

11th 9 Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin Stevens 53 Pts

This Xmas #1 of 1985 was actually written & recorded for Xmas 1984, but Shaky wisely decided to wait a year as 1984 was the year which saw two Christmas classics that finish higher in this countdown take up the Top 2 of Xmas 1984 selling over a million copies of each.

10th 10 Stay Another Day - East 17 55 Pts

The bad boys to boyband Take That only UK#1 hit topped the charts for Xmas 1994 keeping another Xmas classic from the top spot which features higher in the countdown...

9th 6 Merry Xmas Everybody - Slade 65 Pts

This perennial Xmas song by 1970s Glam Rock Brummies Slade was the last of their six UK#1 hits, debuting at #1 in December 1973.

8th Ne Warm This Winter - Gabriella Cilmi 71 Pts

The song from the 2008 Co-Op Xmas ads ensures that Australian Gabriella is not a one hit wonder.

7th 7 Do They Know Its Christmas? - Band Aid 73 Pts

The Christmas #1 in 1984 (at the time the biggest selling single in the UK ever), was a UK#1 again for the Band Aid Charity in 1989 and 2004 with two very different (and not so good versions) of this original written by the Boomtown Rats Bob Geldof & Ultravox's Midge Ure.

Come on The Waitresses!
wow! Gabriella did well, I hope it goes on to become a xmas classic but I'm not sure that they'll bring it back after this year

6th 14 Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses 74 Pts

Another song that was never a big hit (UK#45 in Dec 1982), by a group most famous for the US hit "I Know What Boys Like". This song was covered by the Spice Girls (but only Mel C & Emma seem to sing on) their B-side to their Goodbye 1998 Xmas #1.

the Waitresses  I absolutely adore Christmas Wrapping, and wish that one year something would happen for it to become a hit

X Factor Single 2009 Mr Cowell!?!

Hopefully The Pogues will win. I put Mariah as 12pts, I wish I'd put Pogues now.

And, 8th is great for Gabriella!

4th 5 Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon & Yoko 85 Pts

John Lennon's perennial Xmas classic originally a hit in 1972, but it reached its UK peak of #2 in 1980 in the aftermath of his murder. Like Imagine this is John at his most direct, slightly banal but with a timeless message and is one of only a handful of songs that features a children's choir that does not make me want to throw up with all the saccharine.

So Pogues, Wizzard and Mariah top 3 HOPEFULLY Wizzard win
Wizzard top 3! I always think that people prefer Slade, as they topped the chart the same year Wizzard got to No.4...but everybody I ask seems to prefer Wizzard's song to Slade's...and in 2007 and 2008 Wizzard charted higher than Slade...

3rd 4 I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday - Wizzard 92 Pts

Even though this Roy Wood song was beaten by Slade to the 1973 Xmas #1 spot this song seems to have more of a timeless appeal.

But maybe it is down to this version by a popular Girl combo helping its revival:
