So, the end of the year has arrived (pretty much) and here is my chart of 2008. Hasn't been a FANTASTIC year for music, but equally, it hasn't been awful, so not much to complain about really! I haven't been doing my personal chart for that long and always forget to do it anyway, so this is not really based on PC performance, but is partly due to my last.fm and mostly what I feel represents my favourite music this year :D

So, two out of the three Coldplay songs that will appear in this countdown are in this 10! :o I really liked Violet Hill when it came out (despite the overlong intro) and it is still one of my favourite songs this year, but obviously there are many others which I prefer, hence its low-ish position. Lightspeed Champion also has two entries in this ten, but #42 will unfortunately be his highest charting song :(. His debut album was one of the albums which really caught my attention this year, especially as it was so different to the music he produced when part of Test Icicles. 'Falling off the Lavendar Bridge' will definitely be in my top 20 albums of the year, but you'll need to check back later if you want to see where...

The Automatic's 'comeback' single REALLY surprised me! They'd been a band who I'd liked but who I was ashamed to admit that I liked at the same time, if you know what I mean. Steve McQueen was a fantastic choice for comeback single, but shame it flopped a bit (and the album even more!). The Futureheads, The Subways, Kanye West and Santogold all make their first appearances in my chart, but all have songs to chart higher up, so I will comment more about them later...

 

Crystal Castles have their only entry in the chart with Courtship Dating, an absolutely great song (despite the intro sounding strangely like 50 Cent's Ayo Technology!), which is what made me discover them this year. I love their debut album too, so it should soon follow in my top 20 albums...

 

At #35 is A&E, by Goldfrapp. I'm quite surprised it hasn't charted higher to be honest, but I think the majority of good music released this year has been in the last few months, so it has been a bit swept aside really. As soon as I heard this song I fell in love with it, shame the same couldn't be said about the rest of the album though...

Glad you like quite a few. I think Coldplay's best single will be Life in Technicolour II when they release it (well at least I think they're releasing it) but Lost is definitely up there with their best!

Notable entries here come from Foals, who have another song higher up in the chart, as do the wonderful Glasvegas. The debut albums from these two bands are two of my favourites this year and I was lucky enough to catch them both live earlier this year. :wub: Camille has her only song in my chart at #29. Money Note is randomly brilliant and it's a shame it didn't chart higher really, as I really can't say how much I love this song, but obviously there are 28 songs I love even more! The Subways, The Futureheads, DIOY,Y? and Santogold both have their second (and last) entries in my 2008 chart, but their albums are due to chart higher than this in my album chart, to be posted later.
