And before the first new chart which will appear shortly a few links and some background information The Irish chart is revealed online every Friday afternoon and covers sales between Friday and Thursday. Since the beginning of 2007 the main sales chart has included all physical and download sales as in the UK. The main charts are the singles chart (a Top 50), the artist albums chart (a Top 100), the compilation album chart (a Top 30) and the download-only chart (a Top 20). The first 3 of these can be found at www.irma.ie while www.chart-track.com carries the Top 50 singles, Top 75 Artist albums, Top 20 compilations and Top 20 downloads along with weekly commentaries. A weekly airplay chart is compiled by Neilsen but since the middle of 2008 this has been unavailable to the public At present the first and only broadcast of the chart on radio is on Sunday afternoons. Veteran presenter Larry Gogan has a 3 hour show between 2 and 5 and the middle hour is dedicated to the new chart. It usually kicks off with tracks from the top selling compilation and artist albums, then a couple of tracks from other album entries or something from the lower end of the singles chart with the Top 10 played in order - though not necessarily in full. The show can be heard online at http://www.rte.ie/radio/liveplayer_av.html...st/2fm_new.smil For full archive charts from January 2000 onwards I would recommend the chart-track website as it contains all the weekly charts since then. The irma website seems to have added an archive section which can be found at http://www.irma.ie/charts_archive/overview.asp though this only seems to cover the Top 50 singles and artist albums of 2007 at present. The irma site also contains year end Top 20s since 2001. Also worth checking out is www.irishcharts.ie which contains a fully searchable singles database going right back to 1962 when the first recognised chart was compiled (though there was a Top 10 published regularly from 1959). It is restricted to Top 30 hits but seems to be updated on a regular basis. This site also contains various other facts and figures and does have a certifications section though this is rather limited in content. Sales info is extremely hard to come by for Ireland and the only details that seem to appear are those mentioned from time to time in the chart-track commentary. Many pre-2000 singles charts were posted on the UKMix forums back in 2006. Katy Perry also turns round as ‘Hot ‘N’ Cold’ climbs from No17 to No5. This week’s highest new entry is Lady Gaga ft. Colby O’Donis which enters the Chart at No11 with ‘Just Dance’ on download only - a week ahead of the physical release. The Album Chart too sees no change at the top as Take That’ ‘The Circus’ get a fifth week at the top followed by Leona Lewis’ ‘Spirit’ up a place to No2 and The Priest’s down a place at No3. This week also sees the publication of the 2008 Annual Charts. Sharon Shannon & Mundy take the No1 spot on the Singles Chart with ‘The Galway Girl’ having had five weeks at No1 in April/May while Alexandra Burke’s ‘Hallelujah’ comes in at No2. Despite only having spent one week at No1 Flo Rida ft. T-Pain’s ‘Low’ takes the No3 spot on the year end Chart having spent 31 weeks in the Top 50. The Kings Of Leon are also on the rise this week, up from No5 to No2 with ‘Only By The Night’, one place ahead of Leona Lewis ‘Spirit’ at No3. With many of the Christmas hit albums dipping this week, several critics’ favourites of 2008 surge back up the chart: MGMT’s ‘Oracular Spectacular’ is up from No20 to No8, Elbow’s ‘Seldom Seen Kid’ climbs from No31 to No21, Fleet Foxes are up from No50 to No26, Ting Tings leap from No77 to No31 and Vampire Weekend jump from No61 to No35. Alexandra Burke takes a fourth consecutive week at No1 on the Singles Chart with her version of ‘Hallelujah’, but she’s challenged this week by Lady Gaga who leaps from No11 to No2 with her debut single ‘Just Dance’. After entering the Top 40 three weeks ago, James Morrison (feat. Nelly Furtado) makes a giant stride this week with ‘Broken Strings’ up from No16 to No3, a personal best for Morrison whose only previous hit ‘You Give Me Something’ peaked at No14. In another quiet post-Christmas week for new releases, the only other newcomer to the Top 10 is MGMT’s ‘Kids’, back up from No21 to No9 after 21 weeks in the lower reaches of the Top 40. Shaky Fan's Commentary Galway Girl slips a few places but Journey seem determined to catch up with its weeks on chart total. On the album chart a sudden drop for Rod Stewart -> after 14 - 15 - 14 - 14 - 14 Some Guys Have All The Luck tumbles to 33.
