So yeah, I think I'm finally gonna do this. I was gonna originally do 15, then 20 but then I decided why not just make it the size of a proper chart. I've got 80 unique songs from her so it's half of them. It's mostly 'Who I Am' and later songs, but hopefully that doesn't matter to Aled everyone.

First two to come in a minute.

40. Strong Hand [Prodigal Sista]

So not much from the 'Prodigal Sista' era has made my countdown, this is the first and only album track from it. I don't really have much to say about this apart from it's a nice, comforting, song to me. I really like the "leeeeean on me, I'm your strong hand" part. (which I guess is the chorus ) It's far from being a stormer but sometimes you just need a relaxing song like this.

39. What If? [Get Up! EP]

Next up is one of the tracks from the EP of 'Get Up!'. I prefer this to the actual single, which obviously didn't make this countdown. Again this is a bit of a mellow song but I quite like the chorus. This song reminds me of "Tell Me I'm Wrong' by her for some reason, I think it's got something to do with the tone of her voice.

38. Back To You [Music City Soul]

The first of many tracks to appear from my favourite Bev album but, perhaps surprisingly, they didn't all make my countdown. This is one of the 'bonus tracks' on the album, don't know why they call it that as it's on all versions I assume? Anyway, this is a good song which suffers slightly because of the gospel choir being quite annoying. (and I usually like them!) Bev's voice is lovely, deep and rich on this.

Meh, 3 nice enough songs there, nothing much to say.

Cant believe you ahevnt got Get Up in this though

I think it's one of my least favourite singles of hers. It just doesn't sound like her to me, it's not really similar to anything she's done before or since then.

37. Special Kinda Cool [Whatever's Clever EP]

This is retro Bev now, it was on the "Whatever's Clever" EP but it could easily be from her debut album. "Mama got a special kinda cool" apparantly. It's definite B-Side stuff but I really like it and it manageds to be named my 37th favourite Beverley Knight song.

36. Mutual Feeling [The B-Funk]

Next up is actual retro Bev, this is the first of only two songs on my countdown taken from her debut. I thought this was an album track but it turns out she released this without a video and it reched #124. This was pretty much the only song I discovered after getting her debut that I really liked a lot but it was only about £1 so it doesn't matter. I can imagine that if I was my age back when this was released I'd have loved this. (in other words, it sounds dated now but I can appreciate that it's good)

35. Saviour [Music City Soul]

The second track from 'Music City Soul' now, I'm not very good with genres but I kinda like the Rock-y edge to her voice on this song. It makes me feel like tapping my foot, aka Grandad dancing. I think it suits being quite a short song as it gets a bit repetitive at time. It's far from my favourite from this era but it still makes #35, that's a sign of a good album. (or poor previous material?)

I like Back To You, Get Up & Saviour most so far ^_^

Pay attention, Get Up isn't on here. -_-

34. Who's Gonna Save Your Soul [Voice: The Best Of Beverley Knight]

Oh god, I'm already doubting my list. This seems quite low down for such an amazing song. This was the second 'new track' for her greatest hits and the only reason this is below the other one is because I often forget how much I like this, so I don't play it all that much. This is a beautifully performed song, so much soul and loveliness in her voice here. (to be expected from our Bev though)

33. Beautiful Contradiction [Who I Am]

'Baby we make such a beautiful, contradiction together we are in no two ways the same' This is a duet with Musiq Soulchild and I don't really know how to describe it. Despite them singing about how different they are, their voices gel really well and this duet really works. (unlike that one with Ali Campbell ) This is one of my highlights of "Who I Am".

32. Whatever's Clever [Who I Am]

Maybe I was wrong when I said nothing else she's done sounds like "Get Up!", this is kinda similar sounding I guess. This is much better though and if she had to be stupid and not put "Shoulda Woulda Coulda" as the lead single this would have been the better uptempo song. The whole "are you ready for me?" even makes it sound like somewhat of a comeback song. I remember Simon saying this would be the highlight of the non-singles from this album and he was right, unless you count an 'unshaped' version of a song she released that was disqualified.

Is it in ur top 40 Keep This Fire Burning?

Yep...somewhere. ^_^

I'm meant to be doing something today so I haven't got time to upload videos for a next update.

I just realised something though, I said "Whatever's Clever" was a non-single yet "Special Kinda Cool" was from the "Whatever's Clever" EP so it must have been released at some point.

Sorry for abandoning your countdown LOL, all nice enough songs so far. Saviour is my fav so far!

That's alright. :drama: I haven't had much time for it lately any way, I've had an assignment to get done but I've finished it now. I'll do the next lot tomorrow. ^_^

LOL, when i do mine, dont expect me to finish it, it always takes me ages to do these type of things

Me too, my YTD will still be going on next year.

No one spotted the deliberate mistake by the way, I had got the numbers of the last three songs wrong.

31. Soon Come [Keep This Fire Burning EP]

Falling short of the top 30 is the B-side to "Keep This Fire Burning". This is a feel good song that basically says you'll get what you deserve in time. I was quite impressed with this song when I downloaded it, I wasn't expecting one of her weaker songs to have a good B-side. The only thing that weighs this down is the repetitiveness of "soon come", she certainly gets her point across.

30. Spin [Not Too Late For Love EP]

Iwas about to say that this was her best B-side but there are still quite a few good ones to come yet. This is another one that can be a bit repetitive, but the song is basically her telling the DJ to play a song again. (or maybe there's some secret innuendo I'm missing) This is a bit like "Rewind (Find A Way)" but I much prefer this song as it's slightly more umm...danceable? Plus she says "ass" which is always funny to hear her say. :kink: [/immature]

29. Flavour Of The School [The B-Funk]

At #29 is the last of the songs from her debut album and it's her debut single. According to the video description this was done in 1994 (I thought it was 1995) so Beverley was oly 21/22 when this was recorded and she hasn't changed at all. :o Her dress sense has improved though. [/gokwan] Anyway, the song. This is clearly her best song from the debut, which was a very different Beverley to the one we have today. It does seem rather dated but the whole old school vibe kinda makes me wish I was older than 4/5 when this was released, so I could truly appreciate it.

What do you mean no one? It's only me here LOL  Bev fans are obviously simple

Flavour Of The Old School  Been listening to this a lot more recently

Shush, we blates have dozens of people reading this but don't feel like posting. :(

It's grown on me a lot too, at first I didn't think the first album was much good but there are some decent tracks on it.

28. Piece Of My Heart [Voice: The Best Of Beverley Knight]

At #28 is probably one of her most well known singles as it's a cover of a big song. I think it's a really good version of it, probably one of the best, but I just have a problem with covers unless the original isn't my thing. Before I had any of her albums I used to really like this but since then I've found that she has other, better songs that are her own. That said, there are 4 covers that are yet to come.

27. Time Is Now [After You Single]

This is really good and I often forget how much so. I'm not very good with genres but this sounds like a Disco classic to me so I was surprised that it doesn't seem to be a cover. I think this is almost too good to be a B-side as it's almost as good as "After You". It wouldn't sound right on "Music City Soul" so I can see why it was left off in that sense but it's better than some of the ones that did make it. This song makes mewant to hear more unreleased tracks of hers. The teasing thing is that Wikipedia has a list of 6 others alongside "Time Is Now" that didn't make the last album.

26. Why Me Why You Why Now [Music City Soul]

Bev loves a bit of gospel choir doesn't she? This track is another with that choir but they aren't as annoying as on "Back To You". This was one of my favourite tracks from the last era but this countdown made me realise that it's ended up lucky to be in my top 10. I guess that shows how much I liked "Music City Soul". It's a great song that I just can't help trying to sing along to.

They're too scared of you to post Aaron

Piece Of My Heart is fantastic, really shocked it didnt make top 10. Adore WYWMWN aswell.

I reckon that's true, there were more posters this time last year - before I started poting here.

It is fantastic and deserved to be her third top 10 but I think she has much better such as the three singles in my next batch.

25. Shape Of You [Who I Am]

Just making the top 25 is the album version of "Shape Of You". I think it's better than the single mix she did with Hollywood, it ruins the track. This is a nice laid back track you could say too laid back because I really didn't get into this for quite some time after listening to "Who I Am". The chorus is just lovely basically, it paints a lovely image in my head. (unless you picture an actual heart with a hole in it which is gross)

24. Keep This Fire Burning [Affirmation]

At #24 is another one of her most well known songs but like "Piece Of My Heart" it's a cover. This is another one of her songs that I was really into before checking out her material properly then I kinda grew off it a bit. I guess I'm a cover snob in general. But if I ignore that it's a really good version of it, probably the best. No one does it quite like Bev she gives it the soul Robyn's version lacks and let's not mention the trashy Outsiders version.

23. After You [Music City Soul]

Completing a mini run of singles is "After You" but, like "Shape Of You", the one on my chart is the album version. I really think that her songs are usually best left untouched. The radio mix of this isn't so bad but I much prefer this one as it's not trying desperately hard to sound commercial. I just love everything about this, the chrous and the verses are all good but Beverley doesn't really do naff lyrics.
