04. Gold [Who I Am]

 

Next up is "Gold", the final track released (and in this chart) from "Who I Am" that made only #27. I guess when you listen to the single version that's not hard to understand. I get trying to do well commercially but when I listen to the single mix I can't help but feel disappointed at how destroyed the song is! The album version is just beautiful, the song they released wasn't so much... -_- This song could sound like she's so full of herself "I'm gold babe", "If you knew my worth, you wouldn't let go" etc. yet it doesn't. You can interpret in different ways I guess, my personal favourite is that Beverley is the "Gold" and she's basically saying people who aren't her fans are the "fools" for not realising how good she is. :smoke: Obviously that's not what it is, but she's "Gold" to me. :wub: It's more likely about someone not appreciating what they've got when they've got someone good or like people not giving someone a chance even though they're really a nice person. (another interpretation I like) Like I said, you can read it in many different ways...

Anyway, this song is just magic to me, put Bev with a piano and some drums and it'll almost always be lovely. This is the stand out track on "Who I Am", who needs "Shoulda Woulda Coulda" anyway?

Hmm, it is a lovely song but it's one of my least favorite Bev singles.
