March 24, 200917 yr Author 02. Black Butta [Music City Soul] dM_rB_KB53k So, yes, "Black Butta" is #2. If I'm being honest, the top 2 are constantly changing as they're both so so good but this fell short in the end. This was easily one of the stand-outs on the album and it's now up there with a host of songs that have stupidly remained as album tracks for only the fans to enjoy. It gets me excited just to hear the intro, which features Ronnie Wood on guitar. This song is full of similes and metaphor "I'm sweet black butta"/"I gets hot like a late night phone-call"/I gets chilled like a waterfall" etc. Like she says in the lyrics, this song has "so much energy", it's easily the most upbeat and attention-grabbing thing she's recorded in a while. In fact, my attention was grabbed by her performance of this on the Jools Holland show (posted below) so much so, that I would enter it and win the sixth BJSC with it. Now if that's not a sign, I don't know what is. I truly believe that her last era would have been a much better success if she had released this before "No Man's Land". I just hope she performs this on her next tour, I just have to see her do this live in the flesh. Hey Bev, don't worry about trying to make your new "Shoulda Would Coulda", make a new "Black Butta" and I'll be over the moon. HOHvlWGPIdk I wonder what will be #1 now?! :o
March 25, 200917 yr Author Which 2 classics? :o Of course it is, only amazing songs make this list. :smoke:
March 31, 200917 yr Author So...the one you've all been waiting for not really 01. The Queen Of Starting Over [Music City Soul] OaZLS2ubC3A If you knew me at all (or spied on my Last.FM) you would have probably known that this is my favourite Beverley Knight song from the start. In fact, it may be one of my favourite songs overall with it being my favourite song by my favourite artist. This was the last single to be taken from "Music City Soul" and it really sucks that it was one of her first singles to miss the top 200. :( I like to blame it on it being download only (c'mon Bev, it's obvious that the majority of your fans don't know what a download is) and the incredibly cheap video. I don't know for sure, but I'm almost certain it was recorded in the Jools Holland studio on the same day as she did the "Black Butta" peformance I posted in the last post, she's even wearing the same outfit. I think this video, along with the album cover sums up how poorly she was treated with this era, but that might be for another topic. I think out of the "Music City Soul" tracks, this is one of the least "live" sounding of them all. I kinda feel bad for it being my favourite as she writes a lot of her music, but not this one. Peter Vale wrote it for her I believe. This is the track that got me into Beverley Knight properly. If I hadn't seen her perform this on GMTV I probably wouldn't have been this Bev loon that I now am, I never even watch GMTV these days. The weird thing is, like many things, I tried to deny liking it at first. I was like "what is this woman singing?! put the crown on me? no wonder she's the queen of starting over, she flops so much lololol" etc. but a few days later (perhaps after seeing it again on Loose Women?) I found myself looking for it on Limewire and shamelessly singing along to it. A few people find it dull, but it really connects with me. I'm not even sure why, I've never really been in a situation where I've had to start again. I guess it reminds me of my last year at school where my only proper friend got kicked out of sixth form and I was left with no one (:snif:) as it was released near the beginning of the school year. It's just a bit of an uplifting anthem for me if I'm having a bad day I'll switch on this song and it makes things feel a bit better. <3 I could probably ramble on about this song a lot more, but I think I'll leave it at that. Appreciate it bitchez. We're all queens of starting over innit. weNEIV-3Ctc The performance that got me into her. Looking at the GMTV clock, looks like I skipped registration for it. It was worth it. So THAT'S IT. Unless I swapped any songs from my Excel file, this should be a recap of the whole 40: 01. The Queen Of Starting Over 02. Black Butta 03. Remember Me 04. Gold 05. No One Ever Loves in Vain 06. Come As You Are 07. No Man's Land 08. Straight Jacket 09. Shoulda Woulda Coulda 10. Trouble (Napster Session) 11. Relate 12. Greatest Day (Classic Mix) 13. Every Time You See Me Smile 14. Made It Back (Good Times 7" mix) 15. Not Too Late for Love 16. Trade It Up 17. Till I See Ya 18. Time Is On My Side (Nashville Acoustic Version) 19. All My Living (Demo Version) 20. Tea & Sympathy 21. Ain't That a Lot of Love 22. Supasonic 23. After You 24. Keep This Fire Burning 25. Shape of You 26. Why Me Why You Why Now 27. Time Is Now 28. Piece of My Heart 29. Flavour of the Old School 30. Spin 31. Soon Come 32. Whatever's Clever 33. Beautiful Contradiction (Duet With Musiq Soulchild) 34. Who's Gonna Save Your Soul 35. Saviour 36. Mutual Feeling 37. Special Kinda Cool 38. Back to You 39. What If? 40. Strong Hand This whol thing has taken so long that the order is no longer in date anyway. :magic: "Shape Of You" would be like top 15 at least and "Shape Of You (Reshaped)" (that I only heard recently) would feature fo' sho'.
April 2, 200917 yr Queen Of Starting Over is overated IMO as far as Bev songs go of-course, it's very very very very average
April 6, 200917 yr Author You obviously haven't given it the chance. When you get fired one day you'll switch it on and love it forever and ever.
April 6, 200917 yr You obviously haven't given it the chance. When you get fired one day you'll switch it on and love it forever and ever. But have you gave THIS a chance Aaron? Nj6SO_yKMe8 It's not exactly my favourite song of all time since i only heard it last spring, and at that only once, but it sums up 90% of what is great about what will surely be my favourite artist of all time come this time next year? Anyway if it makes you feel any better Aaron it's my favourite song of all time too :) by Bev, though that isn't really hard to beat :kink: Edited April 6, 200917 yr by Harve

I'm 'very interested' in hearing more from them. They remind me of the voice of the Wombats but closer to something like Bloc Party musically and of course they have a FEMALE vocalist as well. Thanks Harve, though Bev CLEARLY has at least 50 good songs. =]

Firstly, Gareth has a Wiltshire farmer accent , and secondly LC! lyrics have MEANING. (The Wombats - Kill The Director) By the light of the LED display of a VCR recorder You kiss my neck, I whisper in your ear, "this is my downfall" As you squint and you grimace, we both know your heart's not in it By the glow of a thousand fireflies in a travelodge en-suite: They think the future's bright as halogen, we know it's pretty bleak And I'm trying to be sexy, biting at the air that falls in front of me. I don't know any other artists of this type except the Libertines. :( The main singers from LC! and Wombats sound very similar to me. Don't sound like farmers to me. I guess the lyrics aren't as good. I think I'd like LC! more if someone got me some links. :drama: Female influence and all that...

Aaron South West and Liverpool are very far apart you know :P. LC! lyrics have meaning, except for The End Of The Asterisk, which seems to go into generic Indie randomness :(. http://open.spotify.com/album/1GzkQq6nrrOWmM6uOhNwLs *ahem*. What do you mean by "links"? I'll convert you eventually :teresa:. I'm running out of time, the average age of their listeners is about 13 :nocheer: Edited April 6, 200917 yr by Harve
