January 22, 200916 yr Ledger better win Best Supporting Actor! I want to see Milk, Banjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire, so I have opinion on those yet.
January 22, 200916 yr 'O Saya' has to win Best Original Song! Great to see Slumdog Millionaire (and the Dark Knight) up for so many awards :D
January 22, 200916 yr I'm pretty sure Heath Ledger will win Best Supporting Actor, and i'd expect Slumdog Millionaire to be the big winner on the night!
January 22, 200916 yr I've not seen Frost / Nixon yet ... but I'm hoping its good and if it is ... Frank Langella deserves an award (for loads of other stuff he's done in the past if nothing else). Plus ... he was the sexiest Dracula ever! Norma
January 22, 200916 yr My personal opinions on what should win based on what I've seen. ;D I've actually seen nearly all of the major candidates bar The Reader, Revolutionary Road, and The Wrestler. Best Film Milk Director Gus Van Sant - Milk Best Actor Frank Langella - Frost/Nixon Sean Penn - Milk Either Best Supporting Actor Heath Ledger - The Dark Knight Best Actress Meryl Streep - Doubt Best Supporting Actress Penelope Cruz - Vicky Cristina Barcelona Adapted Screenplay Peter Morgan - Frost/Nixon Original Screenplay Dustin Lance Black - Milk Animated Feature WALL-E Art Direction The Dark Knight Cinematography Slumdog Millionaire Costume Design Milk Documentary Feature Man On Wire Editing The Dark Knight Makeup The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button Original Score A.R. Rahman - Slumdog Millionaire Original Song 'O Saya' - Slumdog Millionaire Sound Editing Slumdog Millionaire Sound Mixing Slumdog Millionaire Visual Effects The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button The fact that Sweden did not offer "Let the Right One In" for their foreign language film is an absolute disgrace in my opinion. It's not only the best foreign film of 2008, but easily the best film overall. =/
January 27, 200916 yr It's an extremely strong set of nominations this one in all the main categories... The best for years IMO, and the five films chosen really are that good.... Two big "political" films, Frost/Nixon and Milk, the cinematic perfection that is Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button is also a fantastic film, The Reader, a very sobering piece concerning the Holocaust which makes you ask some very tricky questions, and Kate Winslett's acting as Hannah is nothing short of astounding, managing to elicit sympathy for a war criminal is certainly not an easy task for any actress to do, but this proves that she is head and shoulders above any actress of her generation, Revolutionary Road is another great performance, Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie fine performances too.... Mickey Rourke and Sean Penn slugging it out for best actor, both incredible performances, but Sean just edges it for me.... Frank Llangella and Brad Pitt also doing great work... The fact that films as good as Revolutionary Road, The Dark Knight, The Wrestler and Doubt aren't up there for Best Film just proves the strength of the field.... This has to be the most fertile period for US cinema since the 70s, there is absolutely no film there that doesn't deserve to be there, IMO.... Just a shame that they can kind of blow it with the endless remakes and tacky "comedies".....
