Whilst i see where people are coming from slightly in the sense that they might not be able to have a song they want to enter as the theme restricts that, but surely thats the point of a spinoff? And therfore i agree with you... thanks :P

it would happen in most of the spin-offs to be honest...

-loads of people will want La Tortura in the foreign spin-off

-loads of people will want Song #1 in the ESC spin-off

-a fair few people would probably want Rule The World/I Don't Want To Miss A Thing/There You'll Be in the film soundtracks spin-off

and of course it happens in the real BJSC, loads of people wanted Release Me, and for good reason!

What about her sister? Dannii Minogue - This Is It was a #10.

Diana Ross and Lisa Stansfield each had three #10s if anyone is a fan of them. Mariah also peaked at #10 with "Thank God With You". I'd so send that if it wasn't one of her weakest songs imo.

I can see why people are finding it kinda hard to find these songs, I've been looking on polyhex for an alternative entry but I haven't come close to finding a song I like as much as "A&E". I figure that if I had a song I like as much I'd have found it by now, I've searched for all my other top artists with no luck. So I guess I'm confirming, sorry Trashlexis and therefore Martin. :(

Country: Quotosibb

Artist: Goldfrapp

Song: A&E

Oh and James, you didn't get the spelling of "Beverley" right in the second post. It's one of my pet peeves, I know she's not that popular but COME ON. *ahem* sorry, I'll just be off listening to the last Nonsuch entry now. -_-

you've actually just pinpointed my favourite UK #10, Mariah's Thank God I Found You  I've always loved it, but it would flop massively as nobody likes it so I didn't consider sending it...that Dannii track is also excellent, one of my favourites of her pre-dance music career

I never said anything about research? I've had to do resarch to find my song and I never said that anyone else didn't do so. I really do not see the point in having a theme in which people already know most of the songs? And "so stop moaning please"; I don't see anywhere where I "moaned"? I was making a point. If you didn't rush in with your reply you may of actually read what I said.
Where does it say I aimed it at you? The first part about my opinion on what the Point of Spin:Offs were (and that wasn't meant to be harsh - So i'm sorry if that sounded harsh)

The Main bit was just people moaning about Spin:Off's in general.

Sorry If I made it look like it was directed at you! Like I said, apart from the first bit, Nothing was aimed at you in particular. I now realised I should have put it in a seperate post. And I should have worded it better, so I'm sorry about that.

"If you're having trouble, people have said they'd help you, we've provided links, I'll be more than happy to help you out if you send me a list of artists you like or whatever. There have been suggestions throughout this thread too!"

The way you used 'you're' and 'you' all the time meant I thought you were talking to me, sorryyyy.

Oops :kink:

Yeah, memba I told joo, "ey" James, "ey". :)

I think it could pick up a few points but it's hardly one of her most fondly remembered songs. I was so hoping something like "Dreamlover" or "Fantasy" made #10 so I could enter one of those.

The Dannii track is better than I expected, I just listened to it again as I'd forgotten how it went.

it was a bit of a flop, I remember being relieved that it scraped in at No.10 as I loved it so much at the time, it was the soundtrack to my holiday in Tenerife in early 2000, I bought a discman and the Mariah single at the airport and I literally only had that song to listen to for a week  the 'Make It Last' remix on the b-side is stunning too
Could I send Roxette's It Must Have Been Love as that was re-released in 1993 peaking at #10

Haha, it literally was your soundtrack to your holiday then. Oh how things have changed, you can take thousands of tracks with you on one device now. Remixes would be a good spin-off idea actually. I know people have sent them before but they don't always do well. I guess that could include candlelight versions like Jon wanted but on a broader scale.

I don't think so, they kinda had a debate about a similar situation with a Prince song earlier in the thread.

anyway here are 2 fantastic songs that someone might used it.

Savage Garden-I Knew I Loved U

Des'Ree-U Gotta Be

hope someone will pick up these beatiful songs

I honestly don't see that tbh (though I disagree with an ESC spin-off). With foreign language / movie theme / most of the others, there are hundreds/thousands/even millions of songs to pick from whereas with there are about 6/7/8 songs that peak at 10 per year. If I hadn't have grabbed Bjork in time I would have most likely had to compromise my taste in music to find an entry. It was literally the last thing that I loved that was even a possibility.

I don't understand why so many people are angry at the foreign language idea. I mean, I get that some people solely listen to English music (for whatever reason), but you could easily go on alternate countries iTunes and search. There's a TON of stuff out there. Lots of good french pop, german pop, etc. And then tons of japanese / korean pop artists as well (which is what I would enter). And then come voting time, nearly ALL of these entries would be new bar La Tortura (if it was entered). There may one or two songs that a few people want, but in this contest there were numerous people fighting over numerous songs because of the sheer limited nature of picking one number. I wouldn't have minded, perhaps, #5 - #10, or 8, 9, 10 (or even #1s/#2s where there are a lot more quality songs), but just #10s was a bit too strict.

I didn't mind researching the #10 songs; I just disliked it because I generally don't like too much music that charts in the top 10 (at least at such an arbitrary position like #10), so I found myself limited to barely any songs to chose from. There are thousands upon thousands of songs used in movies and foreign songs.

That being said, I do love my entry for this. Bjork is amaze.

Eh eh.

I completely agree with everything you say in your post (except the research bit, as I've been a bit of a sad git & maintained a UK chart database for tracks in my record collection). Including your song choice.

I'm not angry at the foreign language idea, I just prefer to be able to understand what I'm listening to and as English is the only language I speak properly it's hard for me to like songs in another language. I could easily find songs in another language that sound good to me, but for all I know they could be singing about abusing children or something. This is why I'd probably send something like "Una Noche Más" by Jennifer Lopez as I know the English version well. I know it's a rather xenophobic approach to music but I prefer vocals over the actual music (which is why I don't listen to instrumental tracks) so if I don't understand the song that puts it at a big disadvantage to me.

I guess this is slightly restrictive as a theme but it needs to be slightly limited, foreign is good because there are thousands or different songs as possibilities, but movie songs is a bit too broad. It's not like a movie song is at a disadvantage in the main contest anyway.

for the record I would have loved the foreign one, and whilst posters with a wide range in foreign music like yourself will inevitably come up with the goods, posters with no interest in foreign music would inevitably be left fighting over Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, so there would without a doubt be people fighting over the same artists if not songs...

film soundtracks would be much wider open as you could go down the route of obscure/indie films, but a lot of people would undoubtedly go with blockbuster classics like those that I mentioned...I might actually use something from my favourite foreign film, Lola Rennt, which would kill two birds with one stone really...perhaps we should have a 'foreign film soundtracks spin-off' :heehee:

oh yes please.

I love remixes and have an epic remix of S4M. It's 7minutes long however.

Mind you i have some epic short remixes

I agree/am in the same boat.

Although i do love Ella Elle La :kink:

love it  it features Nas instead of 98 Degrees...the funny thing is that this remix sounds nothing like the original, a bit like the remix of J Lo's Ain't It Funny sounded nothing like the original

I'm sure this must borrow from the melody of one of Mariah's older hits, Can't Let Go, as it sounds quite similar

I actually think remixes would be popular with most people, good idea of theme ^_^

I have come around to the idea of #10 hits for the first spin off, despite it having a more limited selection of songs, at least more people can find something they like.

However I'd ask whoever organises the next one not to shy away from the foreign language idea, and if people are really so against it and feel they couldn't find a single song then they don't have to take part.

It is probably better for the first spin-off to be a wider appeal but I think we should be more adventurous with the future ones, as spin-offs are never going to please everybody.

I'm thinking of dropping out of this competition :o
It'd be MUCH easier for me to find a song for the foreign spin-off. I agree with Ben - there are MILLION TONS of them.
