Wait is this banning cheap entries!!? If it is I'm not signing it!

I thought it was just sign it if you didn't like seeing so many cheap entries :o

To be honest Trashley I think the fact there is so many cheap songs in this contest is just a coincidence I don't think it's a sign of things to come :P

I am 100% dedicated to trying to send unknown artists and songs to the BJSC on behalf od the Kingdom of Shadow BUT I don't think a movement like this is exactly correct either. It's a bit harsh to exclude some people if they don't know any new artists and I don't think you can define cheap either, it's relative to each individual as to whether they knwo the song or not.

It's not necessarily about sending JUST unknown artists - I mean I've sent stuff like Rachel Stevens, Jordin Sparks etc., it's more about trying to be creative - to me it just seems loads of people got lazy this month and just sent what seemed to be the obvious hit for them :( And pretty much every nation which is guilty this time around has sent something creative and unknown before, and even if it IS an attempt at success, just look at Nickodonia! They didn't have to rely on cheapness to get them out of their rut...

I see what you mean about the relativity of cheapness, but I think we do have a few indisputibly cheap entries in this contest. I think there's a big grey area in sending old hits, which is why I don't mind it so much. It does annoy me when cheapness attacks en masse - there's nothing wrong with cheapness, but if everyone starts going for it then the contest just suffers really!

not at all from my perspective, I know Trash is doing a lot of Saint Etienne vote begging (in jest I should think)...

I couldn't care if Uh Huh Her finish 1st or 28th, I didn't even think I would qualify, and for once I'm being completely honest when I say that. This from me at least is in no way begging people to vote for my song but is more of a 'please don't let the contest become overrun with songs a lot of us (granted not all of us) already know'. Pure and simply, I love BJSC for helping me to discover great new music, and if I'm not discovering great new music, I don't enjoy it as much. Once again, this is just my personal opinion on the matter, not a generalisation that I expect all the 46 other people to agree with as we all get different pleasures from the BJSC.

Very well said. I agree with most of that post, except i would care if my entry did badly :heehee:. Though my idea of a flop is missing the final.

Or better still send your entries anonymously thru PMs, rather than making a topic of who you are going to send, than no one will know who sent what, that would make it more interesting.

Interesting indeed, but I don't think anyone's suggesting that cheapness has anything to do with who's sending an entry ;o

This is so LOLOLOLOL that you took the time to think of this and write this out.

Let people send what they want to, some people just don't scout of unknown music and perfer to stick to 'cheap' commerical songs. They're sending the song they like/love at the time so it's not exactly a bad thing.

You can't force people or make them feel bad or w/e for sending a 'cheap' song.

and WHAT IS CHEAP?

For example. Rihanna would be cheap with Umbrella, but not with the song entered this contest.

and also I've seen which Royksopp considered as cheap which is kind of beyond me as I don't think a HUGE amount of people in the BJSC are Royksopp fans.

How would Royksopp be considered 'cheap' by any stretch of the imagination??

Big artists with unknown songs is another grey area :P And who on earth considered Royksopp cheap?! I'm objecting to en masse cheapness - there will always be cheap entries, but the contest would be far worse off if it were flooded with them...

Well it was mentioned

Amy Studt/Lady Sov are cheap and you know, I think you're being a bit biased for songs you like. This is my first contest, but I can already see the complicatedness (if that's a word) and the cheap vs. uncheap. I voted for songs I liked, whether they were cheap or not, I think the use of the word CHEAP should banned, if it's causing this much hassle. It's either well known or not, its a song, and the winning song is chosen because people like it, not because it cheap/not cheap. If this carries I'm probably going to pull out.

it is on the Radio1 playlist... but no I don't think it's cheap

Someone define cheap, please.

I was just about to say the same thing, I think I'm barking up the wrong tree  and confusing myself at the same time -_-

Can you please give a general defination as to what is cheap? (not specific songs/artists)

Someone define cheap, please.

BJSC cheap defines established/popular artist and very popular song in this board and in UK charts.

Someone define cheap, please.

Right, I'll have a quick go before I get sent to bed :o

Cheap entry: one which is sent that is already popular or has a reasoning to be known to be obviously popular (e.g. sending a massively popular artist with a song that fans are likely to be familiar with, e.g. an album track), possibly with the aim of getting an easy good result.

That is the essential definition which may take some working on but that is a basic one to work with until tomorrow m'kay? ^_^

I re-emphasise, this is not against cheapness per se, but cheapness en masse.

Banning a word would do nothing but prevent the stimulating debate :P

I can't help but find it funny that people are taking the time to come up with crap, no offense Trashlexis, but your coming across as far too opinionated. If you don't like a song don't vote for it, but don't try to come up with a "club" to force your opinion onto others, if they like it they'll vote for it, as long as your happy with that, or do you need to make another pointless thread for that as well?

What debate? 4 people against "cheap" entries because they have gotten better reception?

that would be me  only because it's a new UK single, playlisted on Radio 1 which is more than Amy Studt got, and she is being seen as cheap :P

I suppose I would define cheap as 'a current or impending UK single' or 'a previously or currently successful UK hit single'

it's all about whether or not it's been or is about to be a UK hit for me
