Why don't we hold a cheap contest somewhere else on the site? Oh wait, it's called the Multichart :P Having a contest in the ESC forum is worth nothing - it plays the songs to people who already know them! Why can't we introduce people to the songs that we love that they wouldn't have heard anyway? You speak as if they need quarantining - the ESC's rejects do have a lot to offer the contest other than your generic Scandipop! Snalla Snalla, described as the new Money Note, Not Crazy After All, hardly generic fare, Tricky, not Scandipop despite its Norwegian origins - in fact, VERY 2009. Would you have objected so vehemently to Will You Remember Me Tomorrow or Release Me, both of which have become contest defining songs, just because they may have been considered for entry in a contest? It's about introduction to new music - what's the problem with doing this?! :/

But we've had cheapness from the start, had these songs been allowed all the time I probably wouldn't be so opposed to them, true. I know I'm sounding like Mushy or Craig in the Doctor Who threads but why do we have to change something after so long?

This may be a silly suggestion, but I feel that the majority of people who vote for these NF songs will also be from the Eurovision forum. Everyone on here knows about Eurovision and if we wanted to hear NF songs we'd make an effort to hear them, it's not quite the same as someone introducing us to a 2006 Norwegian single that we'd have never heard. In this case it's more likely a case of us being made to listen to songs we opted not to follow rather than songs we hadn't heard because we don't follow Norwegian artists.

I'm sure you guys will get more out of introducing almost everyone to a...Tone album track and doing well than doing well with her MGP song which is safe for getting high pointage from everyone that followed that contest. I have no objection to people sending these NF artists with OTHER songs.

Well as there's no way for it to be a win-win situation I think it's best to leave it as a lose-lose one. If someone felt so strongly about something that they left the contest that they started here then I think we should respect his feelings and not go through with these changes. (I know he had 'other reasons', but so did the rest of you who left and came back -_-) To be honest I think some people are more excited at the chance of moderating this forum rather than feeling bad that the person who allowed us to hear things like WYRMT etc. on a larger scale on here has gone.

Boyan may have taken a step back lately, but without him there would have been no BJSC here. It seems like Rich potentially leaving was this huge drama but Boyan going was a free moderator position. :/

it's okay Aaron I'm over it. movin' on.

I was not against the changes, I was just not satisfied of the way they were brought in. that's it.

it's done now. just have fun ;)

I'm absolutely devestated that Boyan left and for me it was the biggest blow of them all, I love Boyan - he knows it too which is why I was mortified when I felt responsible for driving him out of the contest :snif:

come on Rich , we are still friends here and on FB :kink:

and I think we should have few discussions, rates, reviews and stuff in the ESC forum to keep that place more active. maybe I'll start some threads next week there :)

That's a shame, I guess I'm basically alone now. I guess a silent protest i.e. not voting for them from me is probably the only option now.

You should come back. :(

I won't.

I was thinking of doing some bits like that too Boyan, although obviously it will naturally pick up again next month and in May...I might do my song reviews and predictions again soon like I usually do :D

For the sake of XV I think that we should delay the rest of this arguement until after the final. There's no need in starting a heated discussion when, for the time being atleast, nothing is going to change.

If your against cheap, why don't you have a rule where it cannot have made top 10 in the US or UK?

because nobody knows the definition of cheap...in the last contest some of ACM considered even Kelly Clarkson song as a cheap, no matter a fact that the song was only 2 days old when it was entered in contest.

exactly, people have differnt definitions of cheap, just as everyone has different methods of choosing the 'Best' ten songs in each final. This is why I oppose any banning of 'cheap' entries as many people quite like the songs they hear on the radio and see in the charts so why should they not have the oppertunity to rate them in the contest such as this one. Luckily we have a wide variation of people with extremely polar ideas as to what is good or not so good and this is what makes the contest so exciting and unpredictable.

Because, as I've said to you about four times now, I'm not against cheapness in itself, but en masse - as opposed to Aaron, who is against NF entries full stop ;)

And anyway, back when I did propose it (just after the second ever contest), it caused a massive backlash :P

I never said it to you directly, it was an idea to ban top 10 charting songs for the poeple who are against cheap, it's only fair.

thats why u need to shut up and let Tom from now and on do the bussiness :)

Um, excuse me? I think you'll find that, with all due respect, I am still a moderator here, equal to Tom. I don't see what a reaction I made to a proposal I made over a year ago which is only remembered by a small sector of the current participants has to do with anything? I'm not going to just stop making propositions merely because a couple of them have been disagreed with :/

I think everyone is against it en masse, it's just hard to say "you can send a cheap entry, so can you and you and you but WHOA if we get anymore that'll be too much." But I suppose that would be the same for any specific type of song. I'd love an R&B contest, but I can imagine everyone would be bored if it was ALL R&B as there would be little variety.

Well, I wouldn't have a problem with such a rule - but last time it was proposed there was a massive disagreement with it, despite in practice nobody actually sending such tracks. People seem to be against most limitations here...which is why I'm quite surprised there's any controversy whatsoever over the unbanning of NF entries people wouldn't have heard anyway.

But anyway, as has been said, we should leave this discussion until after XV.

Limits are essentially impossible to place on these things :heehee: We have to hope that people self govern and take a look before they confirm, but every so often (about six months exactly I find! II, VIII, and XIV...) people just run out of ideas
