Red Blooded Women are a three piece Girl Band based in London, who are releasing their second single, Enjoy The Silence (a Depeche Mode cover) on their own label "Young, Fresh & New"

It is to be released on April 19th

They have released a 2 EP's to date, The Red Blooded EP which was limited to 100 copies and the You Made Your Bed EP which is available on iTunes and features You Made Your Bed [Ashton XII for anyone who has followed the contest and thought the band's name were familiar] and 4 2nite.

Also worth listening to is

.

Fingers crossed the album should be with us in a few months!

*edit* apologies, i read their myspace incorrectly, this is the second single from their Debut album. Following on from You Made Your Bed.

Oh FFS.... Another bunch of no-hopers hoping that some of the utter genius of Depeche Mode may rub off on them.....

The Saturdays did one of DM's less impressive efforts, which was bad enough, "Enjoy The Silence" is, however, a bona fide, fukkin', 24-carat CLASSIC tune..... Lacuna Coil, yes, Generic Girl Band #742, absolutely bloody NO WAY...... :nono:

They aren't a generic girl band -_-

A simple check of their myspace page would tell you that.

I personally prefer the 7th Heaven Remix

Well, that's as maybe mate, but ANY band or group who release a cover as a debut immediately sets off alarm bells ringing for me.... I just have to wonder to myself - "what's the problem, have you no confidence in your own material...Or are you just looking to make a fast buck off of someone else's talent...?" Both Lacuna Coil and Marilyn Manson did DM covers after they were long established, and on their third or fourth albums, so it wasn't like they were trying to jump on a bandwagon or take a fast track to success....

Sorry mate, but Depeche Mode are an all-time favourite band of mine, and I do get slightly weary of all these gits jumping on their train.....

They have already released 'You Made Your Bed' with a video and a 7inch limited release and an iTunes EP.

This is their full release on their own label, and they class it as their official debut.

Some of their other stuff is great.

Given the Saturdays thread i never would have guessed you were a DM fan :heehee:

I got a minute through that. Painful, utterly dreadful.

Kind of felt the same way tbh... They're coming off like wanting to be another Client, but frankly, Client could eat this lot for breakfast.....

They get kudos for releasing stuff off their own back, but this is rather dull and unispired stuff tbh, and really, this cover has the faint whiff of Saturday Night Karaoke about it.... Not as horrendous as The Saturdays, but certainly no Client or Ladytron either.....

Yeah, fair enough... I cop to that...

I'd recommend you pick up a copy or download Client's awesome new album "Command"....

Better yet, sign up to the CombiChrist army and get yourself into some seriously hardcore German Aggrotek*.....

*(Aggrotek being shorthand for Aggressive Techno.. ;) )

Spot the Sample:

^Colour Me Dirty, first song of theirs i heard and my favourite to date.

^You Made Your Bed, what i would class as the debut.

^Synthesiser, another early track that i love.

They do have the talent to write their own stuff, not sure why they are starting with a cover when they have Colour Me Dirty at their disposal....

I need to get some DM stuff as well tbh, recommend anythin to start off with?

It would be a bad thing if you thought it was better than DM's original..... :P
no cover is better than the original.

well, maybe Gabriella Cilmi's cover of Cry Me A River[/s]

Any one of these as their official debut would be much better than them resorting to the rather discredited and sh!t fall-back policy of doing a cover of a much respected, highly influential and well established act to get noticed, you have to concede, it's not a particularly good start.... Could you imagine someone like Goldfrapp, Portishead or Ladytron doing something as incredibly naff....? Hell no, and presumably it's by these standards that the girls themselves would probably want to be compared to given their method of career path... But, you can, however come to expect it from a crappy, cheesy manufactured group, so you cant exactly blame anyone for thinking that they're just another bunch of chancers, and like I say, it really seems to me that DM are the "flavour of the month" for a lot of people to come along and take a slice out of.....

It's incredibly hard to get Combichrist or Client stuff from anywhere that's not specialist... Both acts are on a German Underground/Industrial/Electronic dance label called Out of Line... http://www.outofline.de/content/index.htm

So, no probs getting their stuff in Continental Europe, Scandinavia, etc, quite hard both here and in the US.... Mind you, a lot of Out of Line stuff gets distributed in the US by Metropolis, but there doesn't seem to be a similar distributor to do the job in UK... Out of Line stuff, I think, used to get distributed by Pinnacle.... If you want a blast of CC, just click on the link in my sig, that'll take you to their myspace page which has a fair few videos and tracks to play....

As for DM - well, the new album, "Sound of the Universe" is fantastic... For classic DM, you really cant go wrong with "Violator" (where the original of Enjoy the Silence can be found), Black Celebration, Ultra, Songs of Faith and Devotion or Playing the Angel.... Their two classic compilation albums - "Singles 81-85" and "Singles 86-98" are serious essentials for a crash course in DM.... And if you're feeling a bit adventurous, there's the 3 CD "Remixes 81-04" compilation as well, which is an absolutely fantastic purchase also, but one which you should wait until you hear the originals before getting imo....

If you're based in Oz, you might know of a bunch of Aggrotek/Cyberpunk nutters called Angelspit.... I got their first two albums, "Krankhaus" and "Blood, Death and Ivory".... Great stuff.....

I'm sorry but I just have to post the original:

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (1990 UK#6 USA#7)

Or the spirited cover version by the Italian gothic metal band:

Lacuna Coil - Enjoy The Silence (2006)

Good for you Rich...

I really enjoyed LC's version, they certainly did that song far more justice than Manson did to "Personal Jesus".... Cristina sings the song so well, there's a power, resonance and a passion to her voice that the girls from Red Blooded Woman simply dont really have imo, and you can tell that LC really LOVE that song, and they're not just doing it to shift a few units.... Earlier on in their career they did an equally spirited cover of Dubstar's "Stars", which was also quite lovely.....

And, like I say, I reckon Client could have RBW for breakfast.....

Red Blooded Women...the Depeche Mode cover is just awful, it's sapped the life out of the track. The girls just don't have the distinctive or powerful voices to make it work, they're totally lightweight. The whole thing also screams of cheapness.

Agreed, which is kind of weird why they would make it their 'calling card'.... Even weirder when you consider their own material is actually a bit better than this.....

It's a serious mis-step IMO, because it's put people who might be potential fans immediately against them, by coming in and stripping all the soul out of a genuine classic.... Which is why you never, EVER do a cover as your debut single.....

By the way Shoat, did you compare the girls in RBW to Cristina from Lacuna Coil....? GOD, what a contrast.... Elegant Italian passion and loveliness compared to the dull, greyness of "Sarf Lahndon" slightly chavvy Karaoke birds..... Er, it's really no contest for me tbh.....
