My biggest gripe with the 1st episode was it was all too convenient how Lucy Saxon was able to affect The Master's resurrection.

No-one seems to have mentioned regarding 'he will knock four times' that The Master banged 4 sets of 4 on the oil drum. Unlikely to be a coincidence but whether that's the moment of truth I don't know.

And even though I didn't know the Time Lords were returning it wasgiven away mid episode by the face on shot of Dalton wearing robes that anyone who grew up watching the old classic series would've instantly recognised. Unfortunately in my slightly tipsy state on the day I blurted that out and spoiled the ending for the whole family. I wasn't popular :D

huh.... way ott, noise, special effects, weak storyline that failed to live upto its initial promise and wtf was all that last 20 minutes in aid of?..

it was drawn out far too much.

and the timelords... how come they are more like a medieval clan (prophetic writings? lord we aint in israel 2 thousand years ago) rather then highly evolved race? the timelords should be as advanced as dr who if not more so.. imho they got it wrong (they always did) .... it didnt work for me.

To be fair they were always like that. Always reminded me of some sort of masonic sect. They were an acient race somewhat stuck in their ways

The Doctor and The Master were both misfits who never fitted in

The last 20 minutes was a good sort of valediction for the Doctor - loved the Restaurant at the End of the Universe reference with John Barrowman and Russell Tovey. Also liked that one final glitch when he sees Rose before their original meeting rather than in 2010.

I didn't like it. Why didn't Donna burn? Who was the older woman? Why was Wilf so important? I also didn't like the Timelords and I didn't like the end where all the previous assistants were seen again, what was the point? Very disappointed.

Not sure about why Donna didn't burn, I guess (and this is only a guess) that the older woman was the Doctors Mother? Wilf was important as he was the one who knocked 4 times (on the glass) to cause the Doctors death and not the Master or the Timelords. I loved the end part with the assistants as it was like closure for the current Doctor and all the storylines - I thought it was really sad :(

Donna didn't burn up because of a previously unmentioned failsafe The Doctor had placed there just in case. Had he have mentioned it before they would have been less careful with her so he was being extra cautious.

The older woman was one of the Time Lords that voted against there plan, although she remains unnamed and slightly mysterious (hardly a bad thing).

Wilf was the one who knocked 4 times and ultimately caused the Doctors death

The Time Lords were just the same old Time Lords really but understandably a touch more aggressive given their plight

And the old assistants was just RTD bringing cloure to his whole tenure and allowing both The Doctor, RTD himself and the audience to say goodbye leaving a clean slate for the new Doctor and production crew

Donna didn't burn as she didn't actually remember the Doctor. It implied that he 'programmed' her to pass out (or whatever) before she fully remembered and hence saved her.

I thought the ending was good, it was perfectly understandable that once he knew he was regenerating that he would want to revisit his old assistants from the series to say a final goodbye.

edit: or what Severin said above! :D

I thought you said it well yourself Dandy.

Also 1st impression of Matt was very promising

So sad to see David Tenant leaving the series, but it had to happen sometime.

As for the episode itself I just didn't like at all, the thing with all the missiles was bit comedic, and than falling through the roof  , but the last 20 mins of the episode just gave it closure, which was quite fitting.

Just saw a minute preview of the new episodes coming in March, they look ok-ish, but you can't really voice an early opinion on the new Dr, based on them, just have to wait and see what happens.

For the main part, i'd say that was pretty brilliant. I felt there were a few loose ends that werent properly tied up either and the return of the Time Lords was perhaps a little naff. On the whole however I felt it managed to improve from the first episode but also at least give David Tennant a good send-off.

The meeting of the companions again was very nicely done. Im glad we only Rose from the past aswell, bringing her back again would have been too much. Donna and the lottery ticket was lovely and im verry happy she got a nice send-off. Very happy to see Martha again, and she ended up with Mickey

Not a perfect episode by any means and there have been plenty of the last 5 years that have been better but it will do and I wont be too critical of it.

I cant say im overly exited about Matt Smith or the next season but i'll give it a fair shot.

...yeah i know, but thats the point, its never really sat well with me.

i know what it was, it just seemed to drawn out and was there really any need? non of the other regenerations did it...

agreed, it was sad, he was great, possibly the best. ive thoughroughly enjoyed tennant as the doctor but... i think he had run its course . it is time to move on, i think hes done all he can now without repeating storylines.

a lacklustre end of a great dr who!

Yes, but non of the other Doctors knew when they were going to die. I thought it was used to great effect.:cry:

didnt they?... *seen all of them, cant remember* however, the fact that he does regenerate succesfully and harmlessly would surely put his mind at rest. nowt to worry about, he knows the drill...

Are you saying you watched Hartnell's final story The Tenth Planet from 1966?

Yes, but non of the other Doctors knew when they were going to die. I thought it was used to great effect.

Tom Baker's doctor must have known he was going to die .... what with The Watcher and all.

Really enjoyed tonight's episode .... I've always been a sucker for returning characters.

Matt Smith looks the part already - I wonder if the BBC are anxious about Matt replacing an incredilbly popular doctor?

I enjoyed the last bit but not the whole storyline with the Master. Donna was pretty much wasted and I thought she'd be in it more. I didn't like how the Time Lords were portrayed at all.

The ending was good though when he saw all the past assistants. :)

It was nice that a huge great reset button wasn't plunged as i feared wiping everything that had happened from Earth's history. No doubt that mysterious women will return one day, I'm sure Mr Moffatt would want to get some link in there. And  at the Wilfred Mott is a time lord crew

Is that a sneaky peaky of the new TARDIS interior in the minute trailer with stairs! or some generic empty alien spaceship which doesn't seem to fit into the trailer at all
