Popjustice have written an article on their new single...

http://www.popjustice.com/images/stories/j/stillalphabeat.jpg

The key points:

1. It's called 'The Spell' and the overall 'vibe' is Madonna meets Shannon with Black Box keyboards with a sped-up 90s Scandipop backbeat. It is amazing.

2. It starts off with some scratching, then some "whoah-oah-oah-oah-oh" bits from Stine with a big Italo house piano riff.

3. Stine does all the singing except for the middle eight when Anders appears and starts wailing about "can you feel the power working baby girl, I think the spell is working oh-oh" over the top of some subtle Calvin Harris-esque rave noises.

4. The verse lyrics go a bit like this: "I've been thinking about you lately, you're on my mind, you do something to me baby in ways I can't define, whatever you're doing you're doing it well, what is your secret won't you please tell." The chorus is all "you put a spell on me, I don't know what to do ... Your magic has got me where I want to be blah blah blah". Lyric wise it is safe to say that Alphabeat are still not looking for arty farty love.

5. This song is 114 beats per minute. There will probably be some $h!t remixes to speed things up a bit but this version is perfectly toe-tappable as it is.

6. The song is three minutes and thirty seven seconds long.

7. Seven seconds too long - shame.

8. The single - and an album - are out in September. According to a man at their record label the band have produced the whole thing themselves.

9. Pop fact - it's a grower. It doesn't pack the obvious immediate energy of the first album's signature tunes - Alphabeat probably kind of made their point with that sound - and 'The Spell' is maybe a little bit cleverer than all that.

Sounds amazing indeed. And Cremey's gonna love it :kink:
Oh gosh YES. Although their first album was $h!t, Boyfriend, 1000 Nights and Fascination were all actually godly.
:cheer: I'm glad their back :D Anders
Very exited about this. Their first album was really good especially the first 3 singles.

I rarely disagree with you but This Is Alphabeat was if I remember correctly #1 in my 2008 end of year chart  every track was fantastic, true the second half rather paled in comparison to the first half, but when the first half was five of the best pop songs imaginable, it's a hard act to follow...:P

Cannot wait for this :cheer: I loved the last album from beginning to end  Although I liked the Danish version better. Anyway, MINE for BJSCXX :kink:
 I actually bummed them in 2007 - Fascination was amazing. I would battle Numayania but I'm trying (but not succeeding) to steer away from cheap.

Cool.

I loved the Singles but never looked into the first Album.

Hmmm, the first half was very DISTINCTLY better than the second half, but I was never amazingly keen on the non-singles in the first half - they were good but nothing to get me excited about. I probably thought it was crap because I was expecting something as good as Mika's album

Seriously cannot wait for this! Anyone know when it's gonna premiere yet?

EDIT: There's a clip on Popjustice as song of the day and it sounds decent. But I need more than that clip! :(

i heard this on bebo...sounds good
The clip has single-handedly made this my most anticipated single of the year :(

I can't wait to hear this :o But weren't they dropped from their label or was that just false?

Anyway we all know PJ go a little bit overboard sometimes but this does sound extremely promising. I need a hot, new, pure pop tune in my life.

They were dropped but another label has picked them up (Fascination, I believe [Girls Aloud, The Sats]) so it's all good! They don't seem to have gone too far away from their first sound. The only thing that's probably different is it sounds a bit more retro-y?? Not a bad thing though.
I think it's a bit less retro. More 90s, less 80s. But amazing either way  Can't wait for the full leak.

Wasnt it that they left their record label to find another one
